My group and I are loving our new Packtalk Edges. Coming from many different generations and brands, most recently the Bolds, nothing holds a candle to the Edge’s sound, connectivity, range, noise cancellation, voice commands, everything. It’s truly in a league of it’s own.

Slide the dial back when pairing and it will go from connecting a phone to connecting a bike. Pretty sure it is in the manual, but I could be wrong.
I find my packtalk pairs fine as a bike. Sometimes the goldwing needs to see it before it pops up with the headset one symbol. My normal start up procedure is to press the phone button on the cardo IF it doesnt auto populate on the goldwing as a headset.

Hey there Cruiseman. My wife and I got the cardo freedom 4 +. Had them about a year or so. The problem was and is, I kept getting an echo in my head set at times I couldn't hear my wife, so I read instructions and also I was hearing a tremendous amount of wind also. It sounded as if someone was spitting into a mike. What I found was the arrow on her Mike was turned away from her. Instructions said place the Mike so the arrow was toward mouth, I did and that helped some. There are times when I still can't hardly hear. Yes I had my hearing checked it ok for the age.

Hey Cruiseman, just a thought. Isn't Cardo's US HQ based in Plano? Maybe a future vlog concept would be to meet up with some Cardo reps and engineers and talk about their product and some of the common issues riders have to deal with. I've had a Packtalk Bold for a couple of years. I don't do group rides so BY FAR my #1 complaint is it is nowhere near loud enough, at least if you wear earplugs while riding like I do. Nothing worse than getting set up for my one hour commute (I live in McKinney but I work in Lancaster), and once I hit 75 South the podcast I want to listen to becomes unintelligible due to wind/engine/traffic noise.

Me too. I ride most with a passenger and frequently with another Goldwing DCT. Bike-to-bike comm was the main reason for upgrading from SENA SMH10 and Schuberth SC10U. I had the SC10U as rider and my passenger and buddy had the SMH10s. They had no issues with pairing, and initiating intercom chats session, but mine was never capable of starting the chat with more then just me and one other participant. So, we all switched to the Edge to try and get easier comm connectivity. We are using mesh, even through there are usually only three riders in the group, and it’s worked perfectly. But we too are experiencing the bike’s indicators that the headset is connected to the bike but nothing works thru the headset. Same story; we reboot, or unpair and re-pair. We did this hokey- pokey multiple times in a recent week long ride. I want to like the EDGE, and the intercom function is prefect, but the bike to EDGE is leaving me sorta wishing I had my old system.

Cruiseman, you are so valuable to us! I bought a PackTalk Bold Duo so that my son and I could talk together while on our 1100-mile loop through North Carolina, stopping to eat at historically significant barbecue restaurants all along the way. That Cardo drove me nuts for a year before our trip! I could almost never get it to work with the Goldwing, particularly with CarPlay. Finally I learned the sequence that would always connect the headset to the bike and then CarPlay so I could use Apple Maps and Music. Finally, on our trip, I encountered the one final problem which I have never overcome. When the Cardo is connected to the bike, to CarPlay, and to DMC intercom, the sound on both the intercom and navigation is so low that neither can be heard, no matter what the volume settings. I’ve finally decided that I have to choose intercom or navigation. I wonder if anyone has a solution?!

You have to adjust the navigation volume for Apple Carplay apps in the phone. With the phone unlocked, connected to the Wing via USB, and with the map app displaying on the phone increase the volume with ring volume button on the side of the phone. For Apple music stored on your phone just substitute "map" in the previous sentence and replace it with Apple music.

Thanks for the review. I contacted Cardo to know if they're new freecom X2, X4 and Packtalk Edge with the Bluetooth 5.2 would work with the new Harley Davidson Sportster S (S1250RH) and they were honest and said that although the didn't test with the new HD bikes, they always had problems with Harley systems. That being said the system works. The bike actually knows what's my phone and knows what's my headset because it is a different pairing process. And so I can make use of the bikes controls (play, pause, volume, answer calls and assistant). But I didn't like the sound, and it even came with JBL speakers. I eventually returned the Cardo.

I've been using the Cardo Freecom 2+ for my wife as passenger and myself for 3 years very successfully. One aspect of my setup that might be different than most others is that my Gold Wing is paired to the Cardo's 2nd channel. I leave the 1st channel open for a phone, but do not use it. Per the instructions, Cardo seems to like any non-phone (e.g., the Wing) attached on the 2nd channel. My Android phone is plugged into the Gold Wing for Android Auto. All my audio comes to me from the Wing. Cardo reports the Wing as a "GPS" device but music from the Wing and all other audio plays just fine. Hope that's helpful to others.

Hi Cruiseman, I have the Edge, XT and a BMW GS. The issues i have, are, i cant get the Edge and my IPhone to stay connected to the bike, one of them will drop off. I don’t have any issues connecting to the XT and the physical volume control works fine. I’ve never had the RDS work on the Edge, or any other Backtalk. I have reverted to connecting the Edge to the GPS and the IPhone, and leave out the bike. This does give me the ability to do voice commands to the phone.

  • @AmerSheikh

The pairing is a real pain when it doesn't want to work. I have had a similar issue pairing it to my BMW GSA and I have given up. On the other hand it seems to be working fine on my GoldWing for now. I will test before I go on my trip to the east coast or I will have to use the Packtalk Bold.

If you try to use GPS pairing for your external GPS, I learned today from tech support that there was a mis-print in the manual I downloaded from their website. The manual said to tap the > button to enter GPS pairing, but in reality you have to tap the Phone button! I was able to pair to the GPS, but now whenever the Garmin sends a message to the headset, it mutes the Goldwing audio and the radio never comes back. Too many issues I am afraid!

Having the same exact issue as you. Connecting to the bike is not working right. Doesn't seamlessly do it like my Bolds. I have tried what you tried. Even when it says its connected its not because it won't let me use carplay so I know its not connected. Have to turn it off and back on. Gonna go back to my Bolds.

I set up my Pack talk Bold to my 2019 DCT GW Tour as a GPS and I rarely have any issues with it, except that I sometimes gave to reboot the Cardo unit to reconnect after a phone call. I have mt Cardo set to my phone on "Phone #1", and to my bike on "GPS #2". Seems to work good like this, but I've had issues whenever I try to set it up with Android Auto... it usually just drops out when I try that. Given that up for now. Anyway, That works for me, I've got my music, my phone connection, and my DMX comunicztion, and can still set up my Bluetooth connection for bridging to Sena Units.
I don't have an Apple phone, so can't speak to that,... But I'm willing to give up my Android Auto for the rest. Hope this helps somebody. Thanks for all your videos, & Safe Riding Y'all.

Same issue with my setup just like yours. the instructions for connecting to the gps are wrong, you tap the phone button once not the ">" button. But don't try it, because once connected to both the Garmin and Goldwing you can't hear anything from the Goldwing. When I called tech support they told me that this cannot be done - cannot connect to both bike and Garmin. The software definitely has. a problem.

I always do a factory reset after every firmware update. I also use my freecom 4+ in two ways. Directly pair to the phone and the other is by pairing to the bike (only one of the two bikes has Bluetooth capabilities) Every time I switch back to pairing with the bike I must do a factory reset... Loosing all my settings 😬. But once I start riding it's all worth it!

Pair Ch1 to your iPhone and Ch2 to the Honda suite 'or' a GPS. Bigger concerns to me are, that you cannot pair as a member into a PackTalk admin group. And members cannot be deleted from a group by an admin; they can only leave. At least the mesh and JBL are class-leading.

I’m still rocking the original Cardo PackTalk with no problems. One of these days I’ll upgrade the headset with the JBL speakers, but honestly, I’ve really only used the headset for phone calls. My wife rides with me occasionally, and on the longer trips, I have yet to be able to get the microphones to stop broadcasting after we are done talking. This causes the music volume on the bike speakers to remain reduced until one of us mutes our mic. 🤷‍♂️ She doesn’t ride enough with me to experiment and figure it out.

Hey Cruiseman, I don't have a wing to test this myself, but I believe that hitting the "Audio" button to toggle audio to the speakers, then back to the headset resolves the strange no-audio-even-though-it's-paired-and-connected issue without having to power-cycle the headset. Also, came across a pairing mode with PT Edge that's not in the Quick Guide...press and hold the Mobile button like normal to get to Phone Pairing, then roll the roller-wheel backwards, you'll hear "Bike Pairing". Not sure what makes it unique from Phone Pairing, but certainly worth trying with a name like that.
Pairing modes on Edge as I understand them...(not intercom related)
"Phone Pairing": Press/hold Mobile button 5 seconds
"Second Phone Pairing": Press/hold Mobile button 5 seconds -> roll roller-wheel forward
"GPS Pairing": Press/hold Mobile button 5 seconds -> tap Mobile button once
"Bike Pairing": Press/hold Mobile button 5 seconds -> roll roller-wheel backward
Curious if paring the wing in "Bike Pairing" and the GPS in "GPS Pairing" does the trick!?

Pair them in the correct order…. Phone on phone one, GPS on GPS and Bike on Bike. Then try it! I don’t connect to a bike…. but works great with my iPhone and XT.

So after watching another video on the Cardo Edge, I realized that there might be a compatibility problem with the Goldwing. The Cardo Edge is using Bluetooth 5.2 whereas the Goldwing is using Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. So this is more than likely the reason why everyone has been having pairing issues with the Edge. I’ve included a brief history of when these Bluetooth versions came out below and obviously, Honda is way behind the curve by 18 years. Not sure if a software update could be done or if upgraded hardware would be needed in the Goldwing. Also, I’m not sure if the newer Bluetooth versions are backwards compatible or if Cardo could do an update on the Edge to fix the Bluetooth disparity between 5.2 to 2.1+EDR.
    Bluetooth 2.0 (2004)
Branded as Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), three bit encoding (versus one) increased the data rate from 1 to 3 Mbps (in practice 2.1 Mbps). Interference handling was improved, and less power was used.
    Bluetooth 5.0 (2016)
A more robust version with extended battery life, BT 5 increased the outdoor transmission range from 50 to 200 meters. Location services are enhanced because it can convey more information prior to establishing a connection. The first smartphones to support BT 5 were the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 and X.

I am new to Goldwings (don't have one yet, but have one on order). Is there a way to update the infotainment system? Maybe it requires an update?

There is a way to update, but there has not been an update since 2020.

I can connect Cardo Edege, bike TFT and phone, but I lose music, voice commands and voice recorder on the phone. Opened a Cardo support case and they said connect only Cardo and phone. So leaving the bike out. There must be a better solution

The problem is the Goldwing not Cardo or Sena.

Question what is your recommendation for tire pressure on a goldwing I watched a video from a guy at traxxion he claims you should not put what honda recomends he claims to go 4 plus lbs under what is recomended 32 front 36 rear

Thats the only advice from max I don’t use. On my 2016 I flat spotted my rear Dunlop e3 running 38. In 4k miles it would sing in corners. Now back to bridgestones and 42 rear, 37 front.

@@michaelsloane1034 Try to budget in a trip to Traxxion this fall. The new wing is just as undersprung and underdamped as my 2016 was. Its a little cheaper for the gen 6, about 2800 I believe. Great bike otherwise. Congratulations.

Mate why not get up to reality & forget about your old fashioned GPS & bike audio system & just get a phone mount then pair up to the Google maps & Spotify or something similar you will be surprised by the massive difference

is that HJC helmet an IS17? If so, have the same helmet and wanted to add my Cardo Edge. Did you use the clip to mount it? I wasnt sure how to position it since ive never had a headset before.
