Great breakdown, thanks. Now the new Edge Pro is out, do you think Cardo have a new update/replacement up their sleeve for the Spirit/Freecom lines too?
I‘m getting the Shoei NXR2 and Cardo PackTalk Edge next week. Would you say that the sound quality for music on the Freecom 4x and the PackTalk Edge is the same or is one better than the other? Very nice video btw :)
Fantastic run down. I have a question though, I have mates on Interphone Bluetooth and Mesh 2 but also mates on Cardo DMC and Bluetooth, I really like the quality look of the Cardo units, can I talk on the Cardo to my mates on interphone? I’m lead to believe Interphone and Sena use the same protocol?
You can connect all the brands you have mentioned using Bluetooth intercom. Only Cardo can talk to Cardo via DMC, and only Sena can talk to Sena via mesh.
Thanks for the great video and offering to answer questions. I'm keen on the Packtalk Edge. Is the conversation between rider and pillion private? Do other Packtalk users automatically join your 'network' or do they need to be given access or permission to join? Thank you.
Could you confirm if the Freecom 4x is only IP65 rated? The Cardo website says it is. It's surprising that the Freecom 2x is IP 67, but the 4x is IP65.
Ys, 4x is ip65, 2x is ip67 Not sure why, the 6 is the dust ingress protection, where the 5/7 is the level of water ingress protection, given the 2x and 4x look almost identical I can’t see a reason for the difference.

Thank you for the nice comparison video. I was looking for exactly this because my recent cheap chinese comm gave out so was looking to upgrade to a better unit. I am a solo rider who listens to music on the go and at times gps directions or phone calls. In my setup, the device and the phone, both are connected to the motorcycle to use the hand controls. Which one out of the freecom 4x and Neo would be better. I am looking for battery life plus good speakers and good Bluetooth signal strength, because I have noticed that the Bluetooth signal on my motorcycle is very flaky to a point that if I tilt my head to the left, it starts cutting off. Also is the warranty same on the freecom 4x vs Neo vs Edge?
There could be an issue with the module in your bike. That said, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Packtalk Neo. I don’t use bike integrated Bluetooth as i have never owned a bike with it.
My biggest question that I cannot find an answer to anywhere: The Neo can connect 15 riders. Do all 15 riders have to also have a neo? Can you connect 5 riders if only 1 person has a neo, and the other 4 have a Freecom4x?
Neo can connect to 15 riders via DMC. Those riders also need to have DMC. So they need to be running Neo or Edge. Neo does have 2 Bluetooth intercom channels. These are what you would need to use to connect to riders running Freecom.
I remember reading somewhere that the Cardo packtalk edge can bridge in other bluetooth devices into the DMC network. For example 5 riders using the edge, 1 rider using the spirit. The spirit connects to 1 of the edge via bluetooth and can be bridged into the DMC network to talk to the other 4 edge riders. Anyone has any experience on this?
How do they compare/map to the Sena line? How (un)complicated is it for a single Sena user to mesh-talk with a single Cardo user ? Thank you for this video.
Sena and Cardo cant talk to each other via Mesh or DMC, they can only connect via bluetooth. what you can do is have one from the Sena group and one from the cardo group connected via bluetooth and bridge the two groups together.

Hi there. Thank you for your videos! We've tried a few other brands of intercom/bluetooth devices. None of them have good to any sound quality whether with intercom between driver and pilion or bluetooth with phone, over 60 km/h (37 miles/h). We're using full faced helmets. Will the Cardo Packtalk Edge work for us? Thanks!
In my experience, Cardo's Packtalk Neo, Edge and Pro offer clear "wideband" audio via DMC, and more than enough volume to use on the open road with or without earplugs.
Thank you for the video! So helpfull 💪💪💪 i was thinking to buy the spirit DUO because i am really on budget, for me and my partner, do you think we can have a good communication while travelling or it will be difficult to talk to each other?
Do you know if there is a new release coming up, considering the Edge was released 2022? I'm debating whether I should wait for a new release or buy the Edge..
I doubt there will be a significant replacement for the Edge any time soon. Cardo ran the Packtalk Bold for close to 10 years. Technology is always moving forward, and cardo are releasing updates for their devices as they go, but the fundamental hardware components of the Edge have not advanced that much as yet.
Many thanks for a such an informative video. This is the first video I've seen from your channel. I've been researching intercoms as I'm starting out into biking and don't want to waste money in a field where it's possible to spend money like water and still not get want you want or need. You have a new subscriber! I have a question: Which of these intercoms, if any, conform to the new OBI standard? OBI is the Open Bluetooth Intercom standard launched by Cardo, Uclear and Midland to eliminate cross-brand incompatibility. Maybe a (follow-up?) video about this new standard would be helpful? Edit: There is also UCS, which is the 'Universal Communications Solution'. This practically standardizes the size and shape of the intercom. One advantage is that it will allow integrated assembly into new ECE 22.06 motorcycle helmets. It will also allow riders to freely choose communication devices without compromising the helmet fit and appearance.
i've been following the developments you speak of, but I dont think anything has been released yet. that said, the Intercom channels on Cardo products can connect to off brand intercoms now too.
All I want is to be able to talk between 4 people in my Sxs what option should I choose oh and I want to use the over the head headphones too! Thoughts ?
You could use any of the line up from cardo. and all work with standard plugin headphones. however you might want to look at the Outdoor range of products as they do a set specifically for SXS.
Say I get 4x am I able to talk to people who have other cardo or is it specific to the one we buy. So basically would I be able to talk to edge while I have 4x
I'm very new to this. How does the compatibility work between models? If I get a packtalk, can I connect to someone on a different model? (assuming it's a Cardo)
There are 2 different connection protocols built into a packtalk rdge. DMC also known as mesh. This will only connect to another packtalk unit Bluetooth intercom This can connect to any device.

Hello, I tried my Freecom 4 (the old version) paired with my GoPro 12, but I got bad audio quality and unwanted cuts. Can you please tell me which device I can use for moto vlogging? Thank you.
I'm on the fence between the Edge, Neo and Freecom 4x. My issue with the Edge is that the magnetic mount seems to make it stick out a little too far from the helmet. Can you comment as to whether the Neo sticks out less far than the Edge given it uses the older clicky mount?
The mounts for the Neo and edge are physically identical, apart from the magnets embedded in the edge mount. Are you worried it will get caught on something? Or thinking it sticks out and will catch the wind?
@@MotoNZ Thanks a mil for the reply! It's more the latter which I'm thinking of r.e. turbulence at speed - from what I've seen of the Edge so far it seems to be quite bulky, especially in comparison to the likes of the Freecom 4x?
I have a question about the edge. When you get a phone call does it cut the other rider off? Can I inform the other rider I’m getting a call or does it disconnect the other rider?
We have the Cardo pack talk bold and they won’t let us communicate when a call comes in. Is there something in the settings or did they change that with the edge? Hi, I’ve bought the Cardo 4x and had connection issues from day one. I’ve been told by the company reps here in Oz that it is due to bad mobile service. Is this correct? What is the point of an adventure communication system if it needs mobile reception?
@@ATrailLessTrodden connection between units has nothing to do with phone reception. reset both to factory settings, ensure both have latest firstware and try again.
Can someone explain to me what is meant by “you can only connect to X amount of people”? Does that mean these don’t work with normal group phone calls?
Each device has a certain number of Bluetooth intercom channels. these are point to point. so if the device has 2 Bluetooth intercom channels, you can only connect to 2 other riders. If the device has DMC or Mesh, it can talk to up to 15 riders on that one connection.
Can i link with other friends using other brands if i using cardo packtalk? And im in a biker group about 30+ bike bikers, which packtalk to choose custom/neo/edge
The whole Mesh Bluetooth thing is a pain in the behind. 30 riders in one group would be nigh on impossible to create and manage unless you use data and a zoom conference. You can connect Packtalk Bluetooth to almost any other Bluetooth unit. Sena is the stubborn one. We have a group of 6 with 5 PackTalk units, two of them are on pillions which is a waste, but they bought pairs. I have a Bluetooth on my pillion helmet is fine. Good on a ride being lead rider talking to middle and tail end riders. You’ll always have a diehard that refuses to buy into it. Only difference between Neo and Edge is the mounting system, Neo clips Edge is magnetic (or is it the other way around. :-P.) I’d avoid Custom it’s cheaper but you pay a subscription for the features you want to install.
Thank you so much! Great video! With the dmc and Bluetooth connection does that mean it doesn’t matter if other rides have cardo, senna , inset alternative brand here, it will still work as long as theirs operated on dmc/bluetooth as well?
probably just the Spirit... I didnt notice much of a difference moving up to the HD. I think the helmet makes more difference to the sound than the speakers them selves.
Do you find a major sound quality difference between Spirit HD and the top tiers? And if so, does this change with the JBL 45mm speaker upgrade? (I‘m mainly interested in music, not intercom)
Also I’m in the same dilemma, a colleague of mine bought the Edge and the JBL speakers sounded flat and tinny, fitted to a Shoei GT Air 3, a disappointment given that JBL speakers in my cars and Bluetooth portable systems sound really great. And because my soon to be delivered Africa Twin mandates an intercom I need to buy something just for music and to gain access to all the features that she has on offer.
I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend you don't get a cardo. The software is extremely clunky and does not function well between iPhone and Android users.

Hey Bru, where did you buy the Edge from? in in Christchurch, NZ also what do you use for a phone mount? cheers
CMG stock the Cardo Packtalk Edge in Chch.
I use Quadlock for a phone mount, loads of videos on this channel.
Thanks for watching. 👍
Will the spirit HD provide turn by turn GPS through your phone.?
Yes
All I want is to be able to talk between 4 people in my Sxs what option should I choose oh and I want to use the over the head headphones too! Thoughts ?
You could use any of the line up from cardo. and all work with standard plugin headphones. however you might want to look at the Outdoor range of products as they do a set specifically for SXS.
Hey
Can you recommend a cardo system for jet boating im looking at the cardo out door attached to ski helmets
So i can freely talk to passengers
Yep that or the edge phones would be the go.
Thanks for the vid! Do they connect with non cardo users too?
Via Bluetooth? Yes
Say I get 4x am I able to talk to people who have other cardo or is it specific to the one we buy. So basically would I be able to talk to edge while I have 4x
4X only has Bluetooth intercom channels. so can talk to anyone via that Prootocol. Edge, Neo, Custom and Pro all have DMC/Mesh and Bluetooth intercom.
more importantly - which iPod - I see we have been through a few...
It would have been helpful with pricing?
Pricing changes all the time and is different in each country
I'm very new to this. How does the compatibility work between models?
If I get a packtalk, can I connect to someone on a different model? (assuming it's a Cardo)
There are 2 different connection protocols built into a packtalk rdge.
DMC also known as mesh.
This will only connect to another packtalk unit
Bluetooth intercom
This can connect to any device.
@@MotoNZ awesome. Thanks so much. Learnt a lot from your videos!
I have a spirit HD looking to get a neo, but i boight a new mount recently. I know ill need a new mount since they are shaped differnetly but are the headphones and mic the same or different? I have the jbl 2.0s
Yeah pretty much the same.
Hello, I tried my Freecom 4 (the old version) paired with my GoPro 12, but I got bad audio quality and unwanted cuts. Can you please tell me which device I can use for moto vlogging? Thank you.
Can’t beat the packtalk edge.
Hey. I have a fairly loud harley and my main issue is being able to hear my music. Can any of these help?
I happily use all of these while riding with earplugs. Should be fine.
It's posible to Connect a Edge and a Spirit?
Yes, but via Bluetooth intercom only. Not DMC/Mesh
Amazing video just what i needed 🎉
Glad I could help
I have a question about the edge and Spirit.
Can both the unit communicate between the Edge and Spirit?
Yes, via Bluetooth only.
I have a question about the edge. When you get a phone call does it cut the other rider off? Can I inform the other rider I’m getting a call or does it disconnect the other rider?
while the phone is ringing you can still talk to the other rider, but as soon as you answer it pauses the dmc group.
We have the Cardo pack talk bold and they won’t let us communicate when a call comes in. Is there something in the settings or did they change that with the edge? We are going to buy new communication devices but want to make sure that I can notify my husband of a call coming in instead of being cut off like we are currently experiencing with the Pack talk bold. Thank you for your previous response.
@@pamflanigan6392 Well the Bold is pretty old tech these days and not getting any further updates, you'll me amazed at the increase in quality when you move to the edge.
If i have 2/3 buddies with Spirit HD, can i connect with them using Packtalk Neo, and keep connection with my phone??
There are 2 Bluetooth device channels and 2 Bluetooth intercom channels. If you need more connections they need to be DMC.
Hi, I’ve bought the Cardo 4x and had connection issues from day one. I’ve been told by the company reps here in Oz that it is due to bad mobile service. Is this correct?
What is the point of an adventure communication system if it needs mobile reception?
Connection problems between comms units? Or between comms and phone?
@@MotoNZ Between units. Connection to the phones are great! Sorry should’ve made that clearer.
@@ATrailLessTrodden connection between units has nothing to do with phone reception.
reset both to factory settings, ensure both have latest firstware and try again.
@@MotoNZ you’ve already given me more useful info than the Cardo rep in Australia. And that is even having my units with them for two weeks!
So, only the packtalk generation can connect to two bluetooth devices? For example one mobilephone and your motorcycle tft (like honda roadsync)?
The Freecom has the ability to connect to 2 devices also.
My Spirit HD connects to Phone and Garmin GPS unit at the same time, however i am not shure, can it connect to other rider in this scenario.
Spirit can connect to 2 devices and 2 Bluetooth intercoms at the same time.
Correction Spirit can connect only to 1 intercom and 2 bluetooth devices.
Is it same cardo custom n neo??
Watch the whole video
Should i get the new pro that came out or stick to the edge
That’s a lot of money to spend, I’m not going to tell you to buy it, I’ve not even seen one yet, or any reviews.
Is the Spirit waterproof?
Yes
Can cardo spirit connected to my go pro 12 camera via bluetooth? 🤔
Yep. Should be fine
@@MotoNZ thanks for your swift reply. Ride safe!
Thank you so much! Great video!
With the dmc and Bluetooth connection does that mean it doesn’t matter if other rides have cardo, senna , inset alternative brand here, it will still work as long as theirs operated on dmc/bluetooth as well?
Ide like to know this
Only Cardo can connect to Cardo via DMC. But you can connect to any other brand via Bluetooth
Thanks so much once again! Bloody legend! :D
thanks !
Really usefull. Thank you
I was the thousanted liked. You owe me a beer.
Sure. 🍺
Interesting!
What would you pick spirit or hd???
probably just the Spirit... I didnt notice much of a difference moving up to the HD.
I think the helmet makes more difference to the sound than the speakers them selves.
600 thumbs up here!
Packtalk neo is best one
Do you find a major sound quality difference between Spirit HD and the top tiers? And if so, does this change with the JBL 45mm speaker upgrade? (I‘m mainly interested in music, not intercom)
If it’s just for music the. Buy the spirit HD.
I didn’t notice a massive difference
@@MotoNZ Thank you!
Oh on god? Entry leevil? And it peers to another device?
Good on ya.... I'm from New Zealand... do you know where that is?
Delete Bluetooth from the title and it’s a pretty good review.
Packtalk mesh and the rest being Bluetooth are like chalk n cheese.
All the devices have both Bluetooth intercom and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
We think Bluetooth in the title is reasonably accurate
@@MotoNZ Add Mesh in the title, it’ll be 100% accurate. 😊
I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend you don't get a cardo. The software is extremely clunky and does not function well between iPhone and Android users.
What do you mean “between iPhone and android users?”
Malekalps
Dont get sucked in to buying these overpriced units. Buy Fodsports for a fraction of the price.
You’re kidding right?
Fodsports are Bluetooth only, not waterproof, battery life is crap, just cheap.
