I'm not a serb but I was born and raised in the balkans, and anyone that knows serbs or their history knows very well that they never shy away from combat of any kind, even when outnumbered or as big underdog. In fact, they welcome it. The last true warriors in Europe and just like in the battle of Kosovo in a distant and recent past, to only be defeated by dirty politics, deciet and domestic treachery. I haven't visited Serbia in a long time so I can only hope that this new generation of young serbs hasn't gotten soft by foreign influence because as we are all watching the whole world going to shits in front of our eyes, the time to dig up the war hatchet is getting near yet again. Traitors of christianity. Thats what they are. Son of Lazar served to Bayazid later as his knight in war with christian army. With the man who killed his father. 60 years after the Kosovo battle they participated in the siege of Constantinopole! With vigor they gave away the heart of Eastern Church ,to which they belong, to muslims!!! History full of traitors, killed even their kings few times. Even participated in the wars against Crusaders. Lazar's daughter was wife of sultan Bayazid. Mara Brankovic, another Serbian princess was also sultans wife, a woman that Mehmed II admired and loved her as a mother. The guy that took Constantinopole. They battled...alright. but is courage to make war and when you lose you switch sides and eagerly fight for those that slaughtered your fathers? Or is courage something else? Is it maybe the courage to think with your head, and make a fight last long...teach your kids to fight after you for same cause.

The Serbs had the tactic that during the fight, a group of armored knights made an attack with the goal of reaching the opponent's head, and capturing him, or killing him. Awesome stuff on your channel but I suggest as Croat to invest a bit of time into how to pronounce names of places and personal names. For instance the letter "ć" or "č" (difference is in hardness of pronunciation but not so important for beginners) is always pronounced "ch" as in "chess" or "china", "c" is always pronunciation as "c" in "central", "š" is always pronounced as "sh" as in "Shaggy", "đ" and "dž" (difference is in hardness of pronounciation but not so important for beginners) always as in "j" in "jubilee" or "jar", "ž" is like "s" in "measure", "lj" is like "lli" in million, "nj" like "ni" in “minion”... No exceptions, it is always like that. It is simple.
Completely agree with the comment, because it's a very easy thing to pick up as a beginner, it's simply about learning the rule change rather than learning to pronounce a new sound. The one thing I would correct is that the letter "c" is pronounced like "ts" at the end of any English word, "pots" or "lots" for example. In English, the "c" in "central" is pronounced as an ordinary "s" sound like "sentinel".

@@iliriandedvukaj9210 "yes he did he fought in many parts of todays MNE where I live which at that time were albanian territories". This is absurd for at least three reasons. Second, there was never an "Albanian territory" recorded in history before 20th century. There were some significant Albanians who were lords mentioned in Greek and Serbian history, but not a single Albanian country was ever formed. And even these lords were mostly in the todays south Albania or todays Greece, with some being mentioned in todays north Albania and Montenegro, but their influence and historical significance was a minor one. Third, Skanderbeg he was not an Albanian, not even close. There are well preserved historical documents of both of his parents and who they were. Even an Albanian historian Djon Muzaka, when writing about him in 1510 calling him Serbian. All of his family members had either classical Serbian or Christian names. His father and brother are recorded as great donors of monastery Hilandar, and there is a fresco there donated by them, where Skanderbeg's name is mentioned in a clear Serbian version of the name George, where the mentions of him using the Albanian version of this name "Gjergj" first time in history appeared in the 19th century. Just imagine the Balkan countries today that there were no Ottomans. There would be no Islam in Bosnia, Albania,Kosovo...We would be rich and developed like Scandinavian countries and western Europe.
The Arbers contributed to this battle, this was not only a battle between Serbia and the Ottoman Empire, but it was for all Christians of the Balkan against the new occupier
@Jasaf Tamracku so Serbs were born as Christians? Why is it so bad to change your religion? The Christianity was also brought to the Balkan like the Islam. The history was always like that.
@Jasaf Tamracku skenderbeg changed his religion multiple times. He was also catholic and for a long time a Muslim. You can’t assign him to any religion because he really wasn’t a religious person.
@Jasaf Tamracku we don’t if he was „islamized“ or not. Maybe he changed his religion from his own will. The fact we know is that he his religion was a good thing for his political actions. When he was a catholic the Papst helped him. When he was orthodox the Serbs Helped him.
@Jasaf Tamracku yeah Jesus was also Serb. And Adam also. The whole Balkan is mixed up. You can’t say he is Serb. We believe in facts. And fact is that skenderbeg fought for Albania.
Man, screw everyone arguing about this in the comments, this has nothing to do with the 90s and im sick of it. The events that lead to the 90's only started in the early 19th century, Croats and Serbs were brothers before this century and countless of historical examples support this, can't wait for this senile generation to die and we, either die with them, or recover our friendly relations. Kosovo was one of the most important battles of the early Ottoman conquests of the Balkans and should be treated with respects regardless if you are a Croat, a Serb, a Turk or a Bulgarian. Cheers from Croatia, great video.

This death of Murad I is mentioned only in Serbian sources. According to Turkish sources, Murad was stabbed and died while visiting the wounded on the battlefield after the war
Didn't hear any kosovars on the Lazar's side? So,better to stop the advertisement about the Kosovo is not Serbian Holy Land.but stolen from the Serbs in 1999
This is the proof , Kosovo is Serbia forever , even the word Kosovo is Serbia "Field of Blackbirds ", Kosovo is the heart of Serbia and very soon we will take it back , peacefully or by force.
" Field of Blackbirds " aka crows is any feild where armies fight and die ... There are not many feilds that didn't have black birds in human history and it doesn't make them serbian and that is " proof". As an albanian i praise some of these warrior of your nation . There are slavic terms all over albania towns and rivers ect but I don't hear serbs claim as their own. Glory to Albanian Prince Miljush KOPILI ! Sorabič leaders like Vuk Brankovič run away letting us fighting alone again ottoman invaders..
Geographical composition of what was Serbia then and what is Serbia now brings up a lot of questions about identities of the past in relation to geographical locations
Black Death allowed Ottomans easier conquest. No one in Europe was able to stop the Ottomans from their expansion. Only Serbia (and some allies) did it well, that they are temporarily stopped in the invasion of Europe.
It is the first and only war where an Ottoman sultan died on the battlefield. It is also said in Turkish sources that the person who killed the sultan pretended to be injured. As a Turk, I can say that it was a brave war. Kings on both sides died on the battlefield.
And our sources say Lazar died later, was ambushed with some of his surviving knights, beheaded after praying at a monastery, after the battle. Who knows?
I always like this battle for its pure epicness (like is a strong word I dont like war or bloodshed I just like its scale and how it happened) but one small question did the eastern medieval like Serbia have army musicians to relay orders (p.s) love how you have a sponsor
Thank you very much! I haven't seen any info on the musicians in the medieval Serbian army. I am quite sure Serbs used a flag system. Ottomans did have some musicians, though.
Seeing how some of the events unfolded in the following years, i think it should be pretty clear that Vuk Brankovic did in fact not run away/betray other rulers, but simply got such reputation because of propaganda. He was the most successful of the christian leaders, so it would make very little sense for him to retreat for no reason, especially after sacrificing so many of his people. After the battle, Vuk became de facto most powerful of christian rulers of those lands, but Lazar's son, as well as late king Vukasin's son Marko became Ottoman vassals, and refused to aid his continued fight against Ottomans. I guess the fact that he survived make him look weak in the eyes of the people, considering it was seen as kind of a holy battle, so every man was expected to fight until the bitter end... Either way, he proceeded to keep resisting Ottomans for as long as he was alive, being aided by Hungarian king, joined the alliance that was similar to those of crusades, and died resisting the Ottoman invasion, all while Stefan Lazarevic, son of Lazar, kept being loyal to Ottomans, and actually apparently played important role in breaking said Christian alliance.
@Pasanik Cerriku You should get your facts checked, friend, but i suppose it's difficult to do so when you're blinded by hate... Mara Brankovic did indeed marry Sultan... except she is daughter of Djuradj, Vuk's SON, making her Vuk's granddaughter, and she was BORN 20 years after Vuk's death. If there was some other Mara that married to some other Sultan, i would love to hear about that.
@Pasanik Cerriku It is apparent that you didn't really mean to add anything to what i initially commented on, and you're persistent about spreading hate about Serbs and me personally for merely talking about them, all without at any point considering i could not be a Serb, but just someone who happened to find particular topic interesting. Either way, as much as i am certain there is no point in my typing, i could write down some things, just to set you straight, if you are looking to add to your knowledge, which honestly to me seems rather scarce. You are mixing up some major things, but the most outrageous thing is that period of events you're mixing is over a century. Again, my point was aimed towards the political state in Serbia and in Orthodox Church during the time of battle of Kosovo and afterwards, not at all at aftermath and what came half a century later. Vuk Brankovic proceeded to form an alliance with Venice, and join the "Crusade", if you can hope to call it that against Ottoman. It was indeed done with support of Hungarian king Sigismund. He joined the "Crusade" which was formed after battle of Rovine, where Marko, son of Vukasin Mrnjancevic (king before Lazar) and Konstantin Dragas (you mentioned someone of his kin) died fighting for Ottomans, and actually lost. The Crusade was finished by Battle of Nicopolis, in 1397, where Crusaders suffered horrendous defeat, and Vuk was indeed a participant, and he got captured and died not even a year later while imprisoned. Vuk's son Djuradj did indeed proceed to become a vassal to the Sultan, and his daughter would marry one of sultans, but that doesn't relate to the fact Vuk fought them until his dying breath. Also, another thing you're apparently ignoring is that Djuradj was not fully on Ottoman side, as he married his another daughter to Ulrich of Celje, a Hungarian nobleman and relative to the king. Another rather important thing you seem to ignore is that FOR THE ENTIRETY OF HIS REIGN, DJURADJ WAS BALANCING BETWEEN HUNGARIA AND OTTOMAN EMPIRE, and while he did on several occasions, when forced to, aid Ottoman conquests (like one to Constantinopole), they jumped on Hungarian side as soon as they had such opportunity. I have NO IDEA where did you get information about him not letting Skanderbeg help Hunyadi, as few years before the Battle of Belgrade and all the battles before it where Hunyadi won, he had very little influence, and was an ally to the new "Crusade", against the Ottomans and triumphed. He died just a year after the battle, at age 79. I wrote a fuckton, but let me go back to where i started. The whole idea was that both Vuk Brankovic and Lazar Hrebeljanovic were Serbian nobles who had great power and influence, both died fighting the Ottoman, both had successors who at some point were in vassal position to Ottomans, yet one is a great hero, while the other is great traitor, and that's just nonsense.

There is a saying "Ne daj Bože da se Srbi slože" witch translated "Dear God don't let Serbians unite", was a best description for almost every war. The biggest mistake in Serbian mentality is really deep stubbornness, witch is why this battle was lost. Many lords didn't joined the battle of "Kosovo" because some of them had personal opinion and greed. As for Vuk, it is debatable some sad he saw a battle was lost and pulled back to regroup and defend in near future, some sad a traitor which is mentioned in video etc.
Also, when Ottoman sultan was killed, it was kept as a secret so the army don't panic, that was a great tactic if I can say.
So this is my opinion, and thank you for video. E enjoyed every moment of it.

Serbian and Croatian are easy, I don't know why so many westerners struggle with it. Takođe, pozdrav iz Srbije.
It is funny that slavic people always say it is easy... No, it is not. I have studied Ukrainian and Russian and will continue Russian (and then again Ukrainian) - but now busy with Japanese. XD I have tried Polish and Serbian (when I liked a Serbian girl ;) ), but no, it isn't easy for us in the west. That said, slavic people struggle with western languages as well, putting s's and z's on places where there are none, while it is so easy to learn. (You do get I say this last sentence on purpose right. ;) ) When you grow up with a language, it is easy indeed, when you don't, it isn't that easy at all. However, I do agree some effort may be expected, especially with a great channel like "Kings & Generals", to make it even better. Thank you. :)
Love your videos and I'm a new sub too. Keep up the great work!

EccoBabeTV This battle is usually bullshit. No one has ever heard about this battle, and the only thing known about this battle is that Sultan Murat was killed by a cowardly man. The Ottomans had a human habit to treat and cure all wounded warriors after the battle. When the sultan Murat came to wounded serbian Milos Kobilica (as they call it in the Ottoman scriptures), Kobilica cowardly kicked Sultan with knife. From the entire battle, only this detail is mentioned in the Ottoman scriptures. The rest for the Ottomans did not have any significance. Serbs are pumping this unknown battle like all the other lost battles. Ottomans hit Serbia as a green grass because the Ottoman empire was a science fiction for these small and quenched lands.

King Lazar’s daughter: Olivera was taken into the Turkish Harem which basically means she was taken as a prize to the Prince/Sultan. Sources say that she was a woman of immense beauty, many even comparing her to goddess Aphrodite. It said that with her beauty and decency she was able to persuade Bayazit to spare her Serbian people. With unsettling eyes and quivering knees she pleaded with Bayazit and he essentially put her brother Stefan, in charge of Serbia making Serbia an ottoman vassal for the time being. I think this shows the desperate situation of the Serbs and their every last effort to preserve their people. Maybe it also shows that the ottomans weren’t such blood thirsty rulers after all and had a small bit of heart.
Taking your vanquished enemies daughter as a sex slave isn't what I would call "a bit of heart". Glory to those who stalled, stopped, and turned back the ottoman advance by killing the devils! How great was this battle, and how it gets overshadowed by the hundred years' war. Congratulations on your video and your channel.

Now, that's a good question

@@6offdutyninjasN1 indeed Chinese is probably the answer as they were the ones who used gunpowder first, even though if I remember correctly a big cannon that was used to conquer constantinople was made by hungarian engineer Orban
I think they found on internet, althouo internet at that time was very slow but they saw some photos which were downloading very slowly, so they look it up on youtube. So after colecting tax from their subjects they ordered 5 cannons each on ebay from China.
First notion of canons in Europe is given by Roger Bacon in his Opus Majus. In the middle of XIV century, all European powers used canons and Byzantines used them to repel Ottomans in 1396. According the some sources, main use of canons during Kosovo Battle was to frighten enemy horses.

@@iliriandedvukaj9210 "yes he did he fought in many parts of todays MNE where I live which at that time were albanian territories".
This is absurd for at least three reasons. First, there were may censuses in todays MNE and on Kosovo made by Osmans, and all of them show Albanians in these regions being a insignificant minority (most up to 7% in some places) until the middle of19th century. Or to put it more bluntly, he was as related to the Albanians, as Albanians are to Illyrians 😂
This was fascinating. Quite informative. Thank you.

Stop lying, even on Google and many history books its said Murat was killed in a battle. One thing was sure, there were no Albanians, soooo bye
@@Lilly-hh9es I commented according to Serbian sources and Turkish sources
Albania didn't exist back then, so no albanians in battle, Bosnians were only serbs from Bosnia.

Didn't hear any kosovars on the Lazar's side? So,better to stop the advertisement about the Kosovo is not Serbian Holy Land.but stolen from the Serbs in 1999
??
This is the proof , Kosovo is Serbia forever , even the word Kosovo is Serbia "Field of Blackbirds ", Kosovo is the heart of Serbia and very soon we will take it back , peacefully or by force.
Ever heard of Dardania my friend ? Sit down and learn history
ye yee xdddddddddddd
" Field of Blackbirds " aka crows is any feild where armies fight and die ... There are not many feilds that didn't have black birds in human history and it doesn't make them serbian and that is " proof".
As an albanian i praise some of these warrior of your nation .
There are slavic terms all over albania towns and rivers ect but I don't hear serbs claim as their own.
The only place that changed it's name was Kuçova that was renamed Qyteti Stalin ( Stalingrad ) and back , that's it.
Kosovska Bitka Sorabič listen us very well. In this battle Sultan Murad finished dead by an Albanian Prince Miljush Kopili from Drenica, region in nowadays Republic of Kassowa.
Agreed 👍
If we made that a requirement it might be a more peaceful world.
And our sources say Lazar died later, was ambushed with some of his surviving knights, beheaded after praying at a monastery, after the battle. Who knows?
Samo je jedna prava istina. Kosovo je srce Srbije! 🇷🇸
Based 👍🏻

I always like this battle for its pure epicness (like is a strong word I dont like war or bloodshed I just like its scale and how it happened) but one small question did the eastern medieval like Serbia have army musicians to relay orders (p.s) love how you have a sponsor
Thank you very much! I haven't seen any info on the musicians in the medieval Serbian army. I am quite sure Serbs used a flag system. Ottomans did have some musicians, though.
Do a video on the Siege of Szigetvár
It is planned :-)
Long Live Serbia
He did betray, he ran away like a coward without informing the rest of the army. Serbs could’ve had a shot at winning if it wasn’t for him.
