    Some of Heart's best songs are the ones that were only heard on Album Oriented Rock stations. If you want some true heavy rock check some of the songs that were Album Rock hits (vs. Top 40 singles like this one). Some of the best: Mistral Wind (most diehard fans feel like it's the best cut they ever recorded, and Nancy is on record as saying it's the best Heart song of their career), Black on Black, Bad Animals (the title cut from this album), Kick it Out, Devil Delight, If Looks Could Kill, The Night, Wild Child.

  • @k.wilkie3814

    In case anyone is wondering why all the animated cave drawing animals were flying around throughout the video it's because the album this song came off of was called Bad Animals. The front of the album was plain white with the band name and cave drawings of five tricked up looking animals. Each drawing represented one of the five band members, and in the video each animal comes into the video off the band member it's tied to (i.e. Nancy has a tattoo of the green animal that comes to life and Ann is cutting her animal into the wall when it comes to life). It made more sense then because the album was one of the biggest bands and the album was one of the biggest albums of the year.

      Bad Animals was my least favorite of their Capitol albums, but that's like saying flying first class is my least favorite form of luxury travel. I just felt like it was far mellower and more pop oriented than their other albums. But with that said, my favorite album track off all the Capitol albums is the title cut to Bad Animals. Overall, their first four albums plus Brigade and Desire Walks on are my favorite studio albums.

  • @Impromac

    This was actually one of their bigger hits. They generally weren't a big singles band but this one hit the Top 10. I guess maybe it seems deeper into the catalog since it doesn't get the airplay of their early classics. They are one of those bands that, at least in the 80s and 90s, their album cuts were far superior to the singles.

      @chrisacer6605 Год назад

      Mistral is the best studio recording Heart ever made. The only album I've ever felt anything prog from was Dreamboat Annie. The other early albums were pretty straight up Zeppelinesque rock. One later song that does sound prog is the title cut from Bad Animals. While that album is from their commercial period, the title song sounds like it was influenced by Comfortably Numb, midtempo with very heavy guitar, and is written by the entire band. It's structure is similar to Devil Delight with the heavy/soft minor chord/major chord passages, very heavy guitar, and Ann's voice is on fire. It's the best album cut from their Capitol Records period, so even if you don't care for that period check it out -- it's definitely not a Diane Warren song .

There is also a "Stunt Ann" in the These Dreams video when the camera goes through the glass wall toward a figure that is supposed to be Ann. On that one you can pause the video at the closest frame and see that whomever that is has a much bigger nose than Ann.

I didn't even realize it at the time until a cousin of mine saw them in concert and said she was surprised Ann had gained so much weight. Then hearing years later Ann talk about the way they treated her and if you go back and watch the videos and look at the album covers and posters they used every trick in the book to hide her and push Nancy to the front. So sad.

    When "Bad Animals" came out in the summer of 1987, my older sister had the cassette and she was playing soccer at night in a indoor pavillion in Phoenix, AZ. I would go with her and the radio in her little blue Nissan truck didnt work, so she had a am/fm cassette player she lugged around to play music in her truck. We played "Bad Animals" on our way to the soccer pavillion at night, and the truck had no air conditioning. We had the windows rolled down and with the cool summer Phoenix air, "Bad Animals" playing on that cassette player and the city passing us by, it was a time to remember.

    This is one that is overshadowed in the catalog of this band. Ann Wilson does it some amazing notes but her voice is mesmerizing when she does the slower material. Give it a try. The first one, if you have not heard it already, is Alone. That is a bombastic banger.

    There is another song on this same album called “Wait for an answer “ that is not typical Heart, but Ann shows off everything that she can do with her voice and talent. It is a real showcase of her talent.

    If you want something slightly different, but still AMAZING...check out Sylvan Song/Dream Of The Archer from their second album Little Queen - you're going to hear Ann's voice & Nancy's guitar in a whole new light!

    The Wilson's come from Bellevue, Washington. A guy I used to work for in Central Oregon and his older siblings went to Bellevue High School. When whatever it was that caused there to be a special day, the ladies' father was a teacher there and the band would play concerts at the high school. Can you imagine?

    Ann was put through hell by the record companies in the '80s. They kept trying to put her in the background and push Nancy as the frontwoman because Ann was heavier. In the music videos she'd be shown sparingly, and always in a way that hid her body as much as possible.
    Ann and Nancy both dealt with sexism throughout their entire careers for being incredible musicians in a male-dominated genre, and always stayed classy and true to themselves.

      The sad thing is Anne. Was always very pretty. Whether she was thin or heavy she was gorgeous. And she always kept it classy. That helped.

    • @roncoughman6221
      @roncoughman6221 Год назад

      It was disgusting and just shows that authenticity was not valued then. But when you're a public figure, especially an entertainer who allows yourself to be treated as a sex symbol then you bear some responsibility to take care of yourself too. Any singer of any band who is high profile enough to be on posters (and Ann and Nancy had posters during that time -- I had one in my bedroom) should know that if they gain a great deal of weight like Ann did it can hurt their image. So as awful as she was treated, Ann was complicit too. There are pictures on the internet of Ann from the mid to late 90s (her heaviest period) where she is almost unrecognizable and I feel bad that she felt so surprised when people made an issue of it. But most of all I blame the video producers and Heart's management for thinking if they just hid the weight gain in the videos that no one would ever know. Because of them not letting her evolve authentically people were absolutely shocked when they saw her in real life because all they had seen of her were those videos where she was either hidden, recorded through a "slimming" lens, or the worst was having a thin "Stunt Ann" with a blurred face stand in for her (These Dreams and this video near the end where she is dancing in the background -- that wasn't Ann dancing). It was a terrible, painful period for Ann but she could have avoided it if she had taken better care of herself and it would have been less shocking if they hadn't tried to cover it up. When they go to those levels to hide someone's flaws the end result is worse than the flaws.
