The hotel was owned by a Lebanese man that was in benin city for a very long time.. My late dad used to take us there in the early 80s to eat , drink , swim and relax.I watched movies a lot back then.. the place was a master piece. Age and mismanagement started creeping in and the owner decided to sell it off.. before he sold , churches were using the facility for their programmes. I brought buyers at one time but the price was too high back then. Am happy the new buyer is trying to renovate instead of bringing down tje entire structure..cost of bringing down the entire structure would be costly. Many hotels in benin are facing similar problems like MOTEL BENIN PLAZA THAT IS ALSO ABANDONED AND NOW 4 SALE @ 5 BILLION .. COUNTRY HOME MOTEL IS ALSO SHUT DOWN.. WHAT ABOUT "NEW LANGER " THAT HAS BEEN SOLD AND BROUGHT DOWN..NOTHING LASTS FOREVER.. EVERYTHING HAS AN EXPIRY DATE...
@@vbbb808 you are right. I passed by the Motel Benin Plaza the other day and it was ruined. Country home is another case. I’m not sure I can access those places. If I can, maybe I'll make a video to raise awareness
Brand promotion was poor... low investment in promotion... eating into the capital. Saidi is based in Lebanon and most of the proceeds was taken back to his homeland... it was inevitable the project would fall into decline. Thanks for sharing the visit experience. The owner is not dead. He is alive and 91 years old.. he still visits Benin often.

I stayed in the hotel with my wife when it was newly opened for a week. And I had a chat with the owner and his wife during my stay at the hotel. He seems to be a very skilled businessman. I believe he was a Lebanese businessman. Based on our conversation. His wife was a black woman. And for courtesy reason I did not ask his wife where she was from. It was a very nice hotel with great food and services. But it was a secluded place and very far from the city center. There were no houses around it, and very lonely roads leading to it. Because development has not been extended to the location. Hence, I stopped patronizing the hotel for safety purposes. However, it is sad to see the hotel have been abandoned and dissolute. Thanks for shedding light on the situation of the hotel. And it was a memory lane for me. Please try and investigate further about the rightful owner of the hotel, and what his intentions are for the hotel.
the once secluded place is now the business hub of Benin City. How time flies. I will try to follow up on the project since it is being rebuilt and I will drop a follow up video.
