I never really thought about it before, but I think the reason why Willow was aware, but a ghost, was she was wearing the (cursed) ghost costume, over another costume, so she kind of became the ghost of 'herself in a costume'?
Weird though that Ethan Rayne sells a costume that's just a sheet that says ghost on it. I thought Willow just improvised a ghost costume with a sheet while she was upstairs at Buffy's house.
The moment Giles first confronts Ethan is one of my favorites of the whole series. Even before he or Ethan says anything ("Hello Ripper"), just the cold chill that comes off him as he stares ... 😵. I already found Giles an interesting character, but this increased it ten times over!
Willow was a ghost for Halloween so the spell turned her into a literal ghost. That’s why she can remember who she is. Buffy’s costume was a woman from the 1800s and the spell turned her into a literal woman from the 1800s so she wouldn’t know anything. Xander was a soldier, you know the rest.
So there's a big advancement in the series with 2x3... for a couple of reasons. 2x6 is another bump up. This is where they start layering in multiple plot threads. Possibly for the first time in the series, there are multiple burning questions in the mind of the viewer. 1. When are we going to see Spike and Drusilla again? 2. What murderous shenanigans are they going to get into? 3. Who the hell is Giles... really? 4. When are we going to see Oz again? 5. When and how are Oz and Willow going to meet? The series is steadily growing into one of the most original and involving series ever. Very few shows were doing this kind of thing back when Buffy started. For many years now, MANY shows have been doing things like this. Buffy was a pioneer in television story-telling... along with other shows like Babylon 5, The X-Files, and Xena. The entire television landscape has been directly or indirectly influenced by these pioneering TV shows. They have influenced everything from Lost, to The Wire, to The Sopranos, to Game of Thrones.
😆 See! And you thought this episode was gonna be scary. Girl, you were laughing your butt off, YAY! Oh and Sarah is actually a brunette. If you look up pix of her when she was young, you'll see how beautiful she looks in her natural hair color as well. But blonde is her iconic look. And look at Rupert. Oh the secrets he's got. Ripper? The way he's just standing there cleaning his fingers off as he's beating Ethan and then that stare he gives at the end of the episode, CHILLING. We're all thinking he's Mr. Uptight when really he's not. Can't wait for you to see the story unfold bit by bit, Darcie.
I love how far the writers got into this show before they officially locked down and decided on Xander's sexuality. These early seasons he comes across like a closeted bisexual.
Oh it definitely was purposefully funny. This is such a great episode, even though it's only season 2 it's still one of those ones that stands out as iconic.
As for angel running out of breath I would assume it's because they make them do billion takes of the scene so he probably ran a lot I was watching the dailies of Buffy the other day and it really makes you appreciate all their hard work
Joy! Also oh you poor dear, but you got your people and a fun mysterious story. Glad you made the effort to understand Xander here, if men should try to understand us and our insecurities, we should try to understand their insecurities. "Do you love my insides?"
Sister you would ABSOLUTELY pull off blonde hair. Omg with like chunky 90's bangs. Your purply lip color, dark brows, maybe a rainbow choker. Hell yes. You're basically Lisa Frank on the inside anyways. Lean into it.
The thing about Spike is that he's smarter than the typical vampire. Most vampires only think for the moment--which is odd given that they're immortal. Spike, however, does a lot more preparation and longer term thinking. Consider his first wncounter with Buffy, where he set up another vampire to fight her giving him an opportunity to see what she can do. And lart of that is "live to figjt another day." Add in that he just likes to fight for its own sake and that's a large lart of what makes him so dangerous.
I never forget that Cordelia is the one who bring best of Angel the most at same time as she made him smile much more. 3:26 Angel likes Cordelia is the one who's being brave enough of handle and accepts his secret at 20:42 Cordelia always believe Angel is good Teen Vampire for her in her book. She believes that Angel is 18. I always believe Angel is Teen Vampire since he was 18 at night he becoming vampire by his first love Darla.
I'm told Alyson did a 'boot camp' to tone her stomach when she knew she was wearing a midriff baring costume for this episode. Willow's all covered as an eskimo - who IS that girl? Willow showing a lot of bare skin - who is that GIRL?
i wouldn't be surprised if smg was a natural brunette, a few roles she did as a teen in soaps show her with brown-ish hair ya know if we all were to transform into our costume o halloween, then i'd rather be the thing that scares people rather than the one running away to hold onto dear life
Hey Darcie, always great to see your reaction to buffy!! I know how much you like Mr Giles so the fact that you know he has a mysterious past and you are uneasy about it is awesome. I knew that would bother you. No nicknames for chordelia this episode? I'm so disappointed. "I'm not really" but it's a hoot and a half when you do give her 1. So are you going to muster up enough courage to watch jeepers creepers? Do it for Justin long!!
Not been able to find the exact model they used in this episode (all that I can see is that it's compact and have 12x zoom) but they had CCD camcorders back then and those doesn't have mirrors :)
@@Henrik_Holst Cool, thanks. I wasn't even fully thinking camera = mirror, more just it follows one traditional rule of vampires having no reflection but then breaks the one where they don't show up in photos, etc. But that makes sense. :)
It’s a Halloween week between this and your Patreon Buffy episode! So which one did you like better? This one or Fear Itself? This one does have Spike which may sway opinion LOL
It's weird. Willow knows everything because she's just a ghost of herself. Buffy doesn't know who she is because she becomes a woman from a different era. Understandable. But, Zander is a modern era soldier. Presumably he should still be Zander with knowledge of how to soldier added to his identity the same way being a ghost was assed to Willows identity.
it's not that weird. the key is that willow is wearing that ghost costume on top of an entirely different costume, which is basically just "hot willow". that's why she's a ghost of herself; it's a combination of two different costumes. xander is just ethan's soldier and buffy is just ethan's old-fashioned girl; there's nothing else in there.
@@sirmoonslosthismind I doubt the cursed costumes analyze the clothes you wear underneath them and transform you into a hybrid of the two otherwise they would be hybridizing with everyone's underwear. Willow retains her identity because that's part of being a ghost, having a previous human identity. Given these likely assumptions Zander should retain his identity and also be a soldier and Buffy should be a version of who she would have been had she grown up in the past without her modern identity thus she doesn't recognize anyone.
Spike running instead of fighting to the death is what makes him a foe that will be harder for Buffy to defeat. Not many vampires do that.
"Oh, fuck. I hope there's not a ghost." LOL!
I never really thought about it before, but I think the reason why Willow was aware, but a ghost, was she was wearing the (cursed) ghost costume, over another costume, so she kind of became the ghost of 'herself in a costume'?
Yeah. I think Willow just was herself, just a ghost. While everyone else actually became other people.

you can see willow looking at the ghost costume when they're in ethan's store.
They became what they were pretending to be, in their minds. Spoiler...
So Pirate guy, was a straight Pirate, not a Gay one.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is actually a natural brunette. She started bleaching her hair for the role of Buffy.
Looks great in Cruel Intentions
The moment Giles first confronts Ethan is one of my favorites of the whole series. Even before he or Ethan says anything ("Hello Ripper"), just the cold chill that comes off him as he stares ... 😵. I already found Giles an interesting character, but this increased it ten times over!
Larry (the guy from the beginning of the episode) was the guy in the pirate costume that Xander beat up.
(15:28) And then Xena the princess warrior made a mention on their Show about Buffy "Buffus The Bacchae Slayer" XDD was so funny
Love that scene. “Who died and made her the boss?”
Ghost Willow walks through the wall.
Excellent acting all round; Gellar totally convincing in another persona and ASH showing great comic timing and a darker side for Ripper Giles.

I am sorry, 'My dude, I will get you an eyeshadow pallet' had me ROLLING
Oh it definitely was purposefully funny. This is such a great episode, even though it's only season 2 it's still one of those ones that stands out as iconic.
Willow was the ghost of her former self, hence the cognition (also, they needed someone to help move things along).
FINALLY! So happy we've got this!!! The very first Halloween-centric episode ever in the series and what a doozy it happens to be.
Oh you where so close to take a sip there at 17:33 , how amazing wouldn't that have been 🤣

Sarah Michelle Geller actually has brown hair in real life that's why she looks good in the brown wig.
It was Xander that you heard breathing heavily from being out of breath (from his fight with Larry). Not Angel. But great reaction! :)
definitely can hear xander! but you can see angels shoulders going up and down like he's panting too lol and thank ya!!
I love this reaction was really enjoyable to watch! This is a fun episode
Happy Easterween!, or what this new holiday shall be named.
Was gonna watch this until you said that you didn't like Halloween, or most of it, I'm all 100% into Halloween lol. Have a great one ...
This episode is awesome for a Halloween episode
I never forget that Cordelia is the one who bring best of Angel the most at same time as she made him smile much more. 3:26

A new video? Must be mah berfday ;-) Middle of listening to a book lovers quiz show, but nice to have something to look forward too later :-) kerk
This is the ep that made me love Buffy. Hope you like

Willow showing a lot of bare skin - who is that GIRL?
@15:28 you should google who Xena is, pretty awesome character
The first really good episode, everythings is better from now on.
“I hope there’s not a ghost.”
What about a friendly ghost?

So do you think Angel ended up staking the kid in vampire costume back at Buffy's house or not?
I'm pretty sure it's the same kid you see in the background just after they all change back. He's got the same ruffles and gold waistcoat.
Yes!!
🎃love this episode ❣️ so funny 😄
The is the first biggest hater of buffy and angel I seen for the first time
Juliette might be scary, but she is lovely.
that seemed like xanders breathe to me
Out of breath from running, can't do CPR, but can smoke. I don't get these vamps.
Wait...vampires don't show up in mirrors but they can be caught on video camera?
Not been able to find the exact model they used in this episode (all that I can see is that it's compact and have 12x zoom) but they had CCD camcorders back then and those doesn't have mirrors :)

Spike running like a little baby once again jajaja.

@Peter from NZ I think Willow fleshed out her costume quite well...

if your assumptions contradict the plain evidence in the show, then your assumptions are wrong.
