Ricky has the most positive and cheerful self talk of anyone that does these practice round videos. It's a pleasure to listen to him make the corrections and explain how he can make the shot better without going negative. This is one of his SuperPowers.
Not sure about smaller baskets but with this design there will be huge differences between players that comes from putting, which is a rare feature. A smooth putting is mandatory.
I love how Ricky putts better in the rain and on mini baskets than the entire FPO and 90% of MPO do in fair weather, on standard baskets. Any spin or hyzer (LOL hyzer putters *terrible*) putters would have a nightmare on those things.
This on the fly analysis of your throws, thought process to make the corrections and always being positive is what separates the champions from the majority of the competition! Let’s go Ricky!
man it is great watching you play and wish i could do it real time again. love the constant chatter and telling the adjustments. your little adjustments make big changes. i thought sure you had your own film crew until the end and that was super of them to do that for you and an advertisement for them as well. right at the end you mentioned something i never would have thought of in that the smaller baskets change your learned distance perspective. great job!
It was interesting to compare Seppo Paju's filmed practice round to this one. Seppo criticised this course quite a lot. He thought the holes were too long (and Seppo throws quite far as well), the course design lacked clarity and felt redundant according to him. It would be interesting to hear Ricky whether you agree with Seppo's criticism or not.😊 Thanks for the informative practice rounds! They are by far the best practice round content in the disc golf scene. 😊
Definitely agree with Seppo. This course might look amazing but its actually boring. Just bomber after a bomber and OB everywhere. Exactly what Big Jerm was just complaining about the current trend of major disc golf courses. This course offers nothing to a casual player or an amateur.
Always great seeing your rounds and very fun to get to see a course we don't normally get to see! The front nine felt good (perhaps because of the novelty) but the back 9 felt like it lacked variation. It was mostly straight drive up the middle or big hyzer, sometimes way downhill but still big hyzer. I think the course could be improved by some more shot variation: some more lateral shots, force-overs, forced carries etcetera. Looked very good and well-maintained, but hopefully can be improved in terms of variation.
Yeah it's a pretty stable disc by default, but keep in mind that the one Ricky's throwing might be pretty beat-in, and he also throws pretty hard which also makes the disc fight the stability more. Also he's throwing in a steep downward angle which makes the flight different than on a flatter shot. You can see the disc starting to fade in the end when the flight straightens out. I have several Harps in my bag and my most beat-in one is more straight-to-understable so they definitely do change their flight characteristics the more you use them.
To make putting harder! There are those skinny practise baskets, but this is mean to be a competative basket. Shorter alternatives in this course use normal size baskets, but the pro lay out is using these smaller baskets to add challenge!
I really enjoy these videos. You're a great ambassador for our sport and your sponsor. I'm definitely not a fan of the smaller baskets. PDGA basket size should be standardized worldwide, just as in golf.
Putting is boring as hell and unwatchable from 33 feet on in, For the top MPO that is!!! Even 40 footers are pretty routine.. FPO and the rest of the world can keep the current size.
Those baskets should be on the DGPT. Makes putting entertaining to watch. Maybe just make the tray or cage slightly bigger though for larger discs to fit like a Condor/bigger midranges.
ehhhh. I don't know about "entertaining." People really hated Niklas's spit out at Worlds. It also seems unlikely to catch any throw-ins and aces that are moving even remotely fast.
@@garnerthecube That is a great idea. Even a smaller chain area like this one with a current basket size would give room between the chains and ground to catch the disc.
Hole 11 is the worst hole I have ever seen. In my opinion such holes should not exist. I mean, what is the point of having an absolutely open 111 meter hole on a pro level course?
The lack of mature trees is the point. As the course designer I would had loved to see more mature trees in this area we got to use, but it's a long waiting game since trees only grow up so fast. The design does not have any other plainly just open holes, so I thought this one would be okay - that's why we built the mound to ad some challenge.
One thing is abundantly clear in these videos: Ricky freaking loves disc golf.

This! Absolutely, Brodie could learn something from that!!

I love "playing" these practice rounds with Ricky!!
Love these breakdowns from Rick!

He plays, how I feel:) Happy to be alive and throwing plastic :)
James Conrad is running off the edge of hole 10 lol
yeah that railing part way up the pad looks like an ouch potential too
huge fan, Ricky! love these videos!

Ricky you’re the goat. Love everything you bring to the game.
Been following you for 14 years and your training rounds are the best published for both educational and entertainment purposes. Keep it up!
Man hole 10 tee box with those soaking wet boards off the nose looks sketcky!! Nice throwing Ricky! This series is some of the best DG content on YT!
Nice Finnish weather!
😂
This was fun to watch! Allways nice to see and hear how pros think when they chose their shots.
European disc golf is going strong
Ricky, I have a destroyer with your name on it. One of your signature discs.
It's nice to see you doing collaboration with DGF, very unique course in Finland.
Awesome content! This is exactly the type of insight I hope was more available 10-15 years a go, when I started playing as kid.
You’re the best! Love these practice vids, gems galore
Just gonna throw a smooth criminal hee hee!
@19:28
Annie, are you okay? So, Annie, are you okay? Are you okay, Annie?
You've been hit by, you've been hit by, a smooth criminal!
Love you Rick
Ricky i would love you to travel to Estonia Järta discgolf park and make a course video like that one . Sweet 👍
Nice video! Love the analysis and pro tips. That course is really nice.

13 need double mando, 112 meter hole with a tree tunnel shot can not give the option of going hyser around. Especially in on a makor level course
To be honest the course is difficult enought as it is so it really doesnt need a mando there.
@@jii-ro7083 TBH your take is terrible. bosmith is 100% right.
@@Luffy-344 go to this course and play it then talk
You've been struck by a smooth criminal
Is thhis in the pdga app?
This is better than jomez
Should the harp go left or am I a noob? Did not see any analyzer as well on it in the first hole first shot?!

@8:55 the course map looks like a patent for a magician's 'weiner knife'
Hole 10 looks about twice as high as TotW at DeLa. Next time take your whole bag! I've watched you play there.
Wet tees,500 ft in the air 😂😂no thanks

I think that would be worth a try. Would see such close calls and see who has the edge.
ehhhh. I don't know about "entertaining." People really hated Niklas's spit out at Worlds. It also seems unlikely to catch any throw-ins and aces that are moving even remotely fast.
I think all baskets just need a bigger “basket” part. It would almost completely solve the spit out issue.
Please no

Incredible course, but I’m sorry, these baskets are not it
