  • Well the title pretty much says it all.........thats right you read that correctly, here is a video of a project that I have been wanting to do for some time.
    I am an avid ice angler/overnighter and do this in some of Canadas coldest climates.
    I usually fish out of Manitoba Canada where it can reach to -50C and I dont want that to stop going out for an overnight so this is where the idea came to build the first ever DUAL diesel heater all in one unit. Diesel heaters are a very safe way to heat your shacks but when it gets window with -25c - -30c we all know they have a harder time keeping up so this way I can make sure we stay tropical while ice angling in some extremely cold temps.
    I have yet to put it to the test on an actual overnight but stay tuned for updates. Also please feel free to ask any questions and I will see what I can do to point you in the right direction.
    Here is a list of all of the things I used to make this build.
    -Dakota Lithium 135ah battery
    dakotalithium....
    -Vevor Diesel heater

    Great build. My only concern would be the heat from the exhaust pipes after prolonged use. Might damage the bottom of cooler. Another heat shield on the bottom between cooler and pipes would be a safe route.

      I thought so too. But I did let it run for about six hours and didn’t seem to really do anything. I’m still thinking of maybe throwing some fireproof insulation along the bottom as well. Last thing I’d want is to wake up being too hot, and not from the diesel heater lol

    Pretty cool idea! While watching I thought of a few ideas. One would be a nicer cooler. Like one of them heavy duty 'lifetime' brand ones, from Walmart. They have big huge over sized almost air filled looking tires, a big metal handle. There a pretty heavy duty RTIC or YETI knock off. They aren't as expensive as a yeti tho, avaliable at Walmart, $80-$100 maybe! So one of those for sure. The other idea I had was to hide the wires and even the fuel lines in the actual walls of the cooler. On that cheapie red cooler I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to pull the cooler apart, and remove some of the insulating foam from the walls to run and fish the wiring harness and fuel lines theu. Then refoam the walls of the cooler with a can of spray foam. Should be pretty simple. I'm sure the coolers heat welded together at some seams where white and red plastics are joined. Just have to examine and look at how they assembly it together. But that way you clean up all the loose rats nest of wires and even the fuel line safe and away from the hot exhaust pipes, with no worry of it ever touching. And mount the control panels securely to the wall or double sticky tape it to the top of the battery's.
    Back in the day we used to make 'party cooler stereos' for floating the river. One huge huge massive big cooler had its own 12" subwoofer, 6x9's mid and teeeywrs and amps, dual optima batts, all marine head grade head unit and speakers, the head unit even had a water resistant little closeable cover for it haha! Toronto's it had dual solar panels on the lid to help keep the optima's charged and last longer. My buddy built a fully enclosed water tight 3" PVC frame to hold the cooler so it would help it float down the river, it even had wheels on the bottom so when you dragged the shallows and sand hard it would roll alone and not hang up on a shallow part. It was pretty trick. The wheels and pvc cradle/ frame also helped transporting it back to the truck and to the river by just rolling it along with a grab handle. It was an all inclusive floatable, rollable unit, water tight/ sealed and floated. Everyone would tie their tubes to it making one big party barge!

    This looks like a perfect overnight setup…
    I’m sure the heat output is great. Will you be mounting the Bluetooth thermostat on the exterior? Have the non Bluetooth at 75-100% and fluctuate heat with the Bluetooth one as needed.
    Can the lid close on the cooler ?
    How are you planning on running all 4 ducts into the shack?
    I supplement my diesel heater on cold days with a big buddy because in our Manitoba weather one heat source just isn’t enough with a bigger shack.

    • @ReelLifeWithMike
      @ReelLifeWithMike  7 дней назад +1

      @@Recordbookguiding you have a lot of awesome questions and hopefully I can answer them. First off you’re pretty correct on having the older style control at around 75% or 100% all the time and then adjusting the main temperature with my Bluetooth operated heater.
      Ask for the ducting I usually do overnights in my 650 XD, which has two diamond doors on the back. One heat output will be placed in each of the zipper of the doors so basically one vent per bed and then the colder intakes will just go under the skirt Underneath the bed
      As weird as it sounds, but unfortunately Manitoba as you know hasn’t had too many cold nights since I’ve posted that so I haven’t been able to do a full breakdown, but stay tuned as I’ll be going through all of that shortly.
      The lid does close completely. I just left it open as at that point I didn’t have a combustion air vent.
      Hopefully then answer some of your questions and like I said stay tuned as I’ll hopefully be doing an actual use video with it shortly

    Looks great Mike! Was there anything (size/fit) stopping you from flipping it 180°? I would think keeping the most weight over the wheels for transportation and the exhaust away from the handle.
    Can't wait to see this in action and for a review.

    • @ReelLifeWithMike
      @ReelLifeWithMike  8 дней назад +2

      @@EvanKorban I actually did consider doing one up and one down both 180 flips but the harder thing was that I didn’t wanna cut down the exhaust. One would work as a direct through, but the other would need a short six or 8 inch exhaust. After building it, there’s definitely some things I thought of afterwards, which is always good because it gives me another opportunity to make it better.Thanks for the view and thanks for the input.

    I didn't see a hole for the air intake for the combustion. If the lid seals it would snuff them out though. Also do those diesel heaters really take a lot of amps all the time or just on start up of the glow plugs?

    • @ReelLifeWithMike
      @ReelLifeWithMike  4 дня назад

      @@MrDarkDragone yeah I totally forgot to show the intake but will in a future video. The heaters take about 9-11 amps on start up for the glow plugs then turns down to about 1.2-1.5 amp draw so quite minimal.

    I would maybe use carbon fiber filament for your 3D printed inserts. Should be a little bit better for fire rating temperature. Also maybe use some fire caulk on the connections for the exhaust to ensure a really good seal.

    • @ReelLifeWithMike
      @ReelLifeWithMike  7 дней назад +1

      Thanks for watching. I actually made a small vent on the upper portion that I forgot to show at the end. I do love the jet sleds, but I now have a snowmobile and may need something a little bit more tougher like a pelican, with those sleds are what I usually told my overnight set up in

    • @dusty1498
      @dusty1498 7 дней назад

      @ReelLifeWithMike You could just add the pelican hyfaxs to the jet sled or find a place that sells hdpe sheets 1/2 inch thick and cut your own. Jet sleds are the Best because they have square sides and corners so you can pack them to the max others have rounded sides and it limits how much you can pack greatly.

      Bin waiting for this build for a while. Very interesting.
      While watching I thought I would put the battery over the wheels to make it easier to pull but understand the wheel hump inside creates issues with the layout.
      I think I would go with no wheels on cooler which allows for smaller size cooler, two 5kw heaters again saving some size & then making a small lightweight plywood tray with skinny wheels along the side of the cooler so battery could go between wheels.
      You think two 5kw heaters would be enough to accomplish good temps in -40 in a 9416i Fatfish and/or Quickfish3?
      Definitely given me some things to think about now and I’ll be the guy at Cdn Tire measuring coolers🤣.
      You mentioned you heat you garage with diesel. What size garage and heater & does it keep up un Wpg cold heat? My 5kw doesnt keep up in my 8x10 shed but its not fully insulated yet.
      Thx again for the video.
