    Hi Brandon, all artists, selling or not spend more than we need on art supplies, we can’t help it, lol. A trip to Pakistan was budgeted in as an art expenditure. You should be proud. This means your art is contributing to excel your knowledge and creativity. I’m proud of everything you do. You are an amazing artist. Your price of your art is more then likely underpriced and not regularly available for sale. Keep being you your amazing. Cheers Kaye 👍🤗

    Thank you for this valuable information, there are people on RUclips claiming to be making money as artists, even though they sell NO art, just business tips, so it’s great to have tips by an actual artist! When I started painting one of the first tutorials I watched was yours on how to mix colors lol wishing you all success!❤

    Hi Brandon, I didn't have a clue how much you earned. Fair play to you, I enjoy your videos. But it is a shame you earn less from the actual art than say youtube, but as you know, many great artists work wasn't fully recognised while they were alive and they didn't have youtube or amazon to get by on, like us. You work to, I know. Don't cut back too much on travelling, if you love it, it's good for you. All the best, John

      Thank you John, much appreciated! And yes, unfortunately selling art is much more difficult than making it. But I am super grateful for these other outlets and ways artists can make money nowadays. We are living in a great time to do something like this. I hope to travel more too soon, thank you. Hope all is well! :)

    Great video, Brandon! I listened to a podcast where they explained that the future of income for most everyone will be from multiple sources, not just one steady gig. I’m grateful for the training I’ve received from you on youtube and have learned so much, I can only wish you will make even more income from youtube as this is the only forum many people can afford to learn how to draw and paint. I work a full time job, flip yard sale/thrift shop scores on Ebay, and create embroidered clothing and accessories for sale. It’s sure not easy. I’m heartened that you seem to take it all in peaceful stride. I love you keep your videos real!

    I was surprised by your RUclips income. Nice going! Wishing you continued success and growth with that. I'd be afraid to count too heavily on it though. Years ago after college I got a job at print publishing and newspapers thinking that was so practical because no matter where I go, there will be a newspaper and therefore job opportunities. Well, we all know the state of the newspaper business today, and print media in general! So, keeping a balance and not counting on one area (yet not spreading yourself too thin) seems to be the sweet spot for artists.

    • @SchaeferArt
      @SchaeferArt  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you :) Hopefully it will continue to grow, but it's true - you never know what will happen or how it will go. RUclips could make one policy change (or anything) and it all disappears but that's how it goes. Very well said. That's why it's important to build multiple streams and save money when possible.

    Congrats on your growing success!
    I think you are missing out a lot from your courses, you should try using other course platforms they widens your sale channels.
    Even though you will be added to a catalogue of same niche courses, you will have a lot free exposure. I think you should definitely look into course platforms and it might cut down the profit margins, you get to offload a lot of marketing and course listing optimisations to them. Some big platforms also assign managers who take care of all that for free.
    Plus giving them traffic also leads to them pushing your content to help you succeed for them to succeed. After a certain level of recongisition from your courses, you can come back to your own site for other courses so you can eventually own your audience. This recongisition + your RUclips influence will be so helpful to get you more workshops, talks, other engagements etc
    Just some food for thought, either way good luck!

      Thank you for the kind words and for your thoughts about the courses. It's something I'm still exploring to be honest.. But you did give me more to consider - I will research and think about it for sure. Thank you for your insights! :)

Congratulations on your progress. I wish you ever- increasing success.

    • @SchaeferArt
      @SchaeferArt  11 месяцев назад +3

      No problem, I'm doing my best to be more open with what I do and share my journey. It really depends on the month and what I need to get done. So because I have a day job, I batch film my RUclips videos and edit them, and then schedule them so I have many many weeks done and ready to go in advance. It's just the least stressful way for me to do it now unfortunately. So there are weeks when all I do is create art and film the process. Then the next month, I'll spend most of my time editing all those videos, etc. Repeat the process.
      Also depends on my day job as well, some weeks I'm not too busy but other weeks, my art and RUclips takes the backseat and I have only a handful of hours that week to do anything. On average, I probably spend 10-15 hours a week on my art and business. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Thank you for the kind words! :)

      I’ve been looking into several places to show and hopefully start selling my art. I’ve had some people tell me they really like what they see and some just look and walk off. No one has bought anything to date, but I really have not had much exposure to the public. Right now I am keeping track of my expenses. Costs are rather low in that I am still using materials I have had on hand for years now. That stack is starting to noticeably diminish. I enjoyed seeing this presentation in that it has reinforced some of the decisions I have made in regard to trying to sell what I produce. Thankfully, as a retiree, I do have one or two income sources so selling art is not do or die. As much as it pains me to say it but your comments as to the struggle you have undergone to get where you are today is pretty much what I thought starting out would be like. Yet you keep at it. I do admire that and I honestly wish you all the success you can generate. I like your work. I like what you present to the public. Keep it up for I do believe you will eventually achieve your goals and all of us who follow you will be rewarded. -OkieSketcher1949

    Hi Brandon, enjoy your drawing and sketchbook drawings. You are enthusiastic about your journey, one that is very difficult. Myself, I have been painting in watercolor exclusively for the past 32 years. but not as a profession. My real job, in my past life, was being a petroleum geologist. With that said, I have never, ever had to depend on my watercolor painting as a source of income. I have been really lucky I have a steady comfortable income. Enough of my gloating, if I might suggest a few things to help you on your journey. First of all establish your credentials as an artist. Secondly self training is not the best avenue to learn a craft. You learn faster through education from professionals in college or university. I know, I’ve taken watercolor classes for 20 years in a junior college, every year, in the evenings three times a week. You have to put in the time and effort. Just a few insights from an old watercolor artist that just loves the medium. ❤

    Hello there! I think you were very honest about your expenses and what income you had in 2022! You are not the only one who has more expenses than income! And from here it shows that you are left with debts, I guess like on credit cards! If so, how do you plan to pay their debts, because I am also in a similar situation. Unfortunately, I have a normal job. Thank you very much!

    • @SchaeferArt
      @SchaeferArt  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching. Well, I actually made a little more than what I spent. I don't have any debts actually. I do my best to only spend money I have. I don't have many credit cards and no month to month debt on them. That's very important not to do. So I did have a lot of expenses but it was all paid for. I had a little bit of profit left over last year - you can see it right here in the video at 9:28
      I also have a normal day job as well, so we just have to do our best to save and spend only what we have. That's what I do :)

    The youtube income seems really low. I guess you have a lot of space to grow there, but it would of course mean a lot more engagement too. Thank you for sharing this video. I am hoping to make my hobby sustainable, meaning to earn enough to cover expanses. I spent, I would guess, about 2000€ maybe even close to 3000€ in the last 4 years on painting as a hobby. Which is not very high, but it is significant burden on my my day job income since we are not a high income country but rather low. And I only earned about 100€ from selling originals and got paid in material in few cases. Which is way less than I spend. Keeping track of the expenses is a smart thing. I should start doing it.

      @@SchaeferArt thanks, it is slowly going towards something I like. Not being brave enough to be bold nor having a clear vision how to be bold in art, I feel at the moment I am too timid and mild in my art. But hopefully I will manage to find expression. I feel mixed media is more expressive than my main media watercolor, or at least I hope that meddling with mixed media will help me get looser.
