    YOU BROUGHT SO MANY GOOD BOOKS! Okay here’s my list of which order you should read them:
    Finish Eliza
    Save The Night Circus, Six of Crows, and The Dream Thieves for October bc they’re all kinda spooky (but read then in that order)
    Read The Hate U Give
    And then read everything else 👍🏼

      Yes! I read The Night Circus because I said I wanted a fall-ish book and a college friend RAN upstairs to her room to get it. It's so cozy.

    I 'save' books too. Like I can't read the ones I think I'll really like until I finish the ones everyone else really likes.... Because logic.

    Six of Crows would be the perfect book to read in October!!! It's fantastic and has a very dark feel that suits October. I haven't read the Grisha trilogy and it didn't affect my reading of the Six of Crows duology. Yay, I can't wait to hear your thoughts once you've read it!

      LotsOfLit i’ve been considering getting it, but i’m really nervous it’s going to be on the VEEEERY extreme left, like “all white people are evil, cops must die, etc” is it like that? Or is more of “this is a problem that can and does occur, and here are some solutions based on my observations as an African American”? I would love to read it if it’s the latter, but i don’t want to touch it if it’s just going to call me a horrible evil person for being white and supporting GOOD police officers, you know what i mean?

    • @lotsoflit2633
      @lotsoflit2633 7 лет назад +2

      It is not in the slightest "white people are evil". It's about intersectionality and privilege. Not once does it say that you are a horrible person. It's a beautfully excetucted novel.

    I read Six of Crows without reading the original trilogy and I still loved it to an immense degree. I think that although Six of Crows doesn't offer as much in introduction to the Grisha world, you can still pick up the elements of the world very quickly, and once you do, you fly through the book. I remember the first two chapters being very hard to get through because I was confused, but after that I absolutely devoured the book. I read the whole thing in one weekend.

    I DNFd The Sky is Everywhere because it was implied that the main character was into her sisters boyfriend when her sister hasn't been dead for that long. Not into that.
    A YA literature class! That is so awesome!
    I'd recommend finishing Eliza and her Monsters (I'm really excited for that one!), and read Lord of Shadows, Six of Crows and Dream Thieves in October, but if you crave something else, read The Hate U Give and Warcross.

    YESS SIX OF CROWS! Personally, I read Six of Crows before Shadow and Bone and I didn't feel lost at all since I had no prior knowledge of the Grisha Universe! I met a lot of other people who said the same thing! You can read it either way; I saw an interview where Leigh Bardugo says you don't have to read Shadow and Bone in order to read Six of Crows! It's the same world but different characters and in the duology, she does a great job of re-introducing the world! Can't wait to hear what you thought about these books! 😊

  • @laurakish4707
    @laurakish4707 7 лет назад

    LORD OF SHADOWS!
    Also, you don't have to read Shadow and Bone first, but I HIGHLY recommend it. This way you get introduced to the Magic system and the world. Also, there are some cameos from people in the original trilogy in Six of Crows. It isn't a big deal, but the scenes won't make as much sense otherwise

    I'm currently reading Vicious and OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH, I'm so excited for you to read it. I picked it up after I finished the Six of Crows duology (which I'm also glad you're planning on picking it up) and that was the best decision I've ever made.
    Also, you don't HAVE to read the Grisha trilogy before reading SOC, the trilogy enhances the experience but it's mostly Easter eggs in the duology. You could read the trilogy after the duology. ALSO it was just announced that Leigh Bardugo is writing another series in the Grishaverse in one of the characters you'll meet in SOC.

    i didn't read shadow and bone before six of crows, they're very separate stories. so you can just jump into six of crows, really.

  • @ceilidancr
    @ceilidancr 7 лет назад

    The Night Circus is a beautiful book, but I wouldn't call it spooky. More fantastical and dreamlike. I read it a few years ago, and I would warn that it is very slow-paced, which isn't a bad thing, but I just remember it taking a very long time for me to finish it. I was totally immersed in the story world and I loved it, but it isn't a quick read by any means. Six of Crows is excellent, and I did read the Grisha trilogy before I read that one, but I wouldn't say it's strictly necessary. There will be some minor Grisha Trilogy spoilers in SoC, but if you haven't read the trilogy, you won't understand them, so they won't really be spoilers to you unless you remember them when reading the trilogy, which seems unlikely because they're small details. Happy reading and have a nice semester :)

    Ohh, I *really* like the way you decorated your bedroom! Very nice. 😊 I have enjoyed _The Raven Cycle_ and I am in the process of reading _The Raven King_ currently. I totally get wanting to save a book series that you have enjoyed. I too have a couple of books/series I haven’t finished due to that very reasoning. The Raven King was one of them. L😊L I liked the Night Circus. I listened to Jim Dale’s narration of that book and enjoyed it. The synopsis for _When Dimple Met Rishi_ does not stay true to the actual book and is more of a fluffy read. _Six of Crows_ is a fantasy Heist novel. I didn’t read the Grisha Trilogy before reading the Six of Crows duology and didn’t even know they were in the same world till after the fact. Contrary to the book norm, I think you can read it and not be missing out.

    You don't have to read the Grisha Trilogy before reading Six of Crows necessarily, but there are some spoilers for the trilogy in Crooked Kingdom, so if you think you want to read the trilogy at some point you might want to start there! But if you just want to read the duology then you'll still understand everything without reading the trilogy!

    I'm trying to do the "spooky month of reading" for october (my fave month) too!! I mentioned it in my last video, and probably will talk about it in my next few (my list for that is pretty not-scary too: Nancy Drew is definitely a top contender). I'm so glad to see you back on booktube (I started watching your videos this summer, and I really missed watching them!!)
    I absolutely LOVE The Raven Cycle, and I'm thinking of rereading them in October (so you should too! admit it, it would be so fun!). The Night Circus is also one of my favorite books, and I LOVED Six of Crows (wow you picked so many great books), but you'll probably start going through withdrawls from the Dregs and have to read Crooked Kingdom immediately after.
    When Dimple Met Rishi was so cute and I enjoyed it immensely. I read it earlier this summer, and while I'm usually not the biggest contemporary girl, I finished it really quickly because I couldn't stop reading it...whoops.
    I really liked I'll Give You the Sun as well--it has an interesting sibling relationship and cool way to go about telling their story (half of the chapters are narrated by Noah in the past, and the other half are by Jude in the present!); however, there is a bit of an underage relationship of sorts in it? So just be aware of that because I wasn't (and everyone kinda glorifies it because yeah they are pretty cute...idk it's hard to explain).
    I hope you enjoy all of the books!

    Basically the deal with Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows is that if you plan on reading Shadow and Bone in the future then read it before Six of Crows as there are spoilers for the first series in the duology and some references to the first trilogy thrown in there too BUT if you really don't care about Shadow and Bone and don't plan on reading it then you can read Six of Crows without having any trouble understanding the world :)

    you don't have to read shadow and bone and six of crows in order, but there will be references in six of crows to the first trilogy. it's kind of like reading TMI without reading TID. you'll know what's going on, but won't have as much background.

    Ooh you've so many good books here. I loved The Dream Thieves and THUG. You should definitely read them soon. I put off reading Six of Crows for ages to read the Grisha trilogy first and while it was helpful in understanding the worldbuilding and the cultural tension in the world it wasn't that necessary.

    No you don't have to read the Shadow and Bone Trilogy before Six of Crows but there are little nuggets here and there that would make much more sense if you've read the Shadow and Bone Trilogy. Also, there's a big spoiler for the Shadow and Bone Trilogy in Crooked Kingdom, just so you know.
    Great video as always!! 💕

  • @annemikstolk7350

    I'd read the Grisha series before Six of Crows if you're planning on reading them at all, because you can clearly see Leighs writing has become so much better (not that it was bad before but you get what I mean) and I feel like you'll be let down if you read Six of Crows first. Also, if you read the Shadow and Bone series first, you'll pick up on little easter eggs in Six of Crows. I haven't read Crooked Kingdom yet but I heard that one spoils the ending of the Shadow and Bone trilogy SO I'd recommend reading those first :)

  • @kathrynteal23
    @kathrynteal23 7 лет назад

    Definitely read The Dream Thieves, and Vicious in October because they are perfect Fall books. I think Six of Crows would work too. I haven't read SoC yet but not having read Shadow and Bone etc will be fine. Good choices! Warcross is definitely very similar to Ready Player one but it still has it's own strength as a virtual reality story. I love the characters a lot. Good luck!

    You don't need to read the Grisha trilogy to read Six of Crows. I had no interest at all in reading Shadow and Bone, but I was so intrigued by Six of Crows. I read it and loved it, and now I want to read Shadow and Bone because I loved the Six of Crows duology so much. If you feel the same, I don't think it matters which series you start with.

    You should definitely read The Dream Thieves it's absolutely fantastic!! But if you're looking for something spooky i wouldn't recommend The Night Circus because the synopsis may seem that way but when reading it it really isn't (at least to me). And I wouldn't say you have to read the Grisha Trilogy first but it's still worth the read :) Btw really happy you're back 💞

    I haven't read most of those either. I definitely say finish Eliza and Her Monsters. That book is phenomenal! I also really enjoyed When Dimple Met Rishi, so I highly recommend it. I actually read those two books in the opposite order. XD Also, your room looks amazing! Love the lights!

    I love I'll Give You the Sun! I'm just about to finish rereading it for a second time and it's just as good as the first time! I was really scared it would disappoint me cause it had been a long time since I've read it but it didn't! Hope you love it!

    I strongly recommend reading the Grisha trilogy before SoC. I didn't, and I found I was as emotionally attached to the characters or the world. Also, I could tell there were significant characters from the prequels that referenced special and meaningful things, but I didn't know the context.
    Also there's not a lot of world-building if you jump straight into SoC, you may end up lost like me.

    I found "Six of Crows" in the books section at Target, thought it sounded cool and bought it. I got home and read about the first 50 pages before realizing that I had mistakenly presumed that "Six of Crows" was the first book in the Grisha trilogy. I just finished reading "Six of Crows" on Sunday and then discovered yesterday that even though the cover of "Six of Crows" calls it the Grisha trilogy, it is no longer called the Grisha trilogy. So as someone who has read "Six of Crows" in its entirety without first reading the trilogy that takes place before "Six of Crows" I can say that if you have good analytical skills and are good at figuring things out it is possible to read "Six of Crows" first without a problem, however I wish I had known about and read the trilogy first because at first I felt a little lost, but only because I missed out on an entire trilogy's worth of world building and language development.

    I’ll Give you the Sun is one of my all time favorite books so hopefully you love it too! Also as someone who was on the last book of the shadow and bone trilogy when I started six of crows.... read shadow and bone first there are a few spoilers in six of crows for the shadow and bone trilogy.

    I would definitely say that reading the Grisha trilogy before Six of Crows is a good idea. I don't think it is absolutely necessary, but I would recommend it. Just don't let the Grisha trilogy put you off (don't get me wrong, it is good, it's just that Leigh Bardugo's writing just seems to get exponentially better with every book she writes). Six of Crows (and Crooked Kingdom) are, in my opinion, way better. Would actually say they are up there with my favourite books ever.
