Thank you for this incredible walk-through. And for highlighting that turn-on Blend Interior Effects as Group check box. I never knew before why these riso effects were’nt yielding the results that everyone showed or that I wanted-this is the key little ingredient and step. Thanks Tom! Great stuff.
Great video! For those like me who don’t have the Risograph kit, you can definitely use another textured brush! Personally, I used Kyle’s Batik CD brush, and the result turned out great!
Just the walkthrough I was looking for! Thank you for being so concise and for explaining the little things like ticking the "Blend Interior Effects as Group". Also, I prefer the overlapping moon effect!
Really love the transparent look of risogragh. Thanks for your artists-sharing in the Skillshare class, too. Really like the works of Blexbolex, really inspiring.
Hello Mr.Froese, I' =m a big fan of your work and this video is great! I enjoyed the illustration and the riso texture. Congrats. I'm struggling with the "temporary clear mode" holding ~. It didn't work for me. Should I manage this with Photoshop shortcuts? (By the way, this is the best tip in years of using Photoshop). Thanks for sharing this.
Hey, thank you for watching and for your comment! I have found that Tilde doesn't work with ALL brushes. Can I ask which brush you're trying to use this with? It may also be that you're drawing directly to the Background layer, which, according to this article (www.photoshopessentials.com/basics/turn-a-photoshop-brush-into-an-eraser/#:~:text=Method%202%3A%20Use%20the%20tilde,~)%20key%20on%20your%20keyboard.) is not possible.
@@TomFroese It worked, suddenly. I don't know how, but I was trying and it was not responding. I thought that the problem could be the Keyboard using a Brazilian "layout", and I read your article, and found so many people complaining that the shortcut was not working... but suddenly worked...🤷♂ Thank you!
Amazing work! I'm just having a problem with the layer mask and texture effect - when I hit "Invert" my blue background disappears and when I start coloring nothing happens, I tried with multiple brushes and still can't figure this out
Thanks! I can’t say for sure what’s happening without seeing what you are. Maybe this helps though: make sure your layer mask is selected (not the main layer itself) before inverting. If you send me a time stamp of the step that could help.
@@TomFroese thank you for a quick answer, did everything the same and made sure to select just the layers mask. I'm going again and noticed that on 21:05 the drawings of the trees are still black but at 21:10 they turn to white and then the same thing happens with the figures, mine are black until the end. What happens there? Thank you!
Hi! Thank you for making this video! I am a graphic design student and am planning on using this technique for my next project. I followed along with your video, using simple shapes, instead of illustrating something as a trial. When I went to fill in the shapes with the risograph brush, it shows up white, instead of the color the layer is set to. I was wondering if you know what was causing this and could help? Your help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. I bought the riso brushes for photoshop and Its perfect!!! Do you have any recommendations for printing to get the best resukts for this risograph effect? (printer, paper kind, weight, etc). Thanks a lot
That’s a good question. If you really want to make a riso print then forego these brushes and use a real riso printer! Short of that, a good quality inkjet/giclee with uncoated paper would look good.

It took me years to find this little nugget. Happy to share!
@@TomFroese That ONE tip made me save this in my favs folder and SUB!

Great tip!
Tom, always nice seeing your content! You are such a calm and inspirational presence within the illustration community!
Thank you, Andres! :)
So simple and beautiful! Thanks for sharing your process Tom! So glad you went for the big moon option, which was my choice on IG! 😊
Hey, thanks for being first here! And thanks for your vote :)

Thanks again! Glad you enjoyed this video. Yes, that Blend Interior option is GOLD.
Great work through. I have learnt a new skill using RetroSupply tools. Many thanks. I liked the version with the moon coming through
Thank you! Glad you agree with me on the moon!
Great tutorial for risolike drawing, thank you for sharing it!

My pleasure 😊
Reminds me of Ezra Jack Keats, 'The Snowy Day' illustrations, which is a big part of my childhood.
Yep I totally see that!
Thanx a lot, Tom!!!!
My pleasure!
i LOVE your channel so much ! Thank you for your videos !
Thank you so much :)
What’s better about using astropad studi vs drawing on the iPad using fresco or photoshop
I can work on my Mac. 27 inches, 5k Retina display. 2TB disk space. Keyboard. An actual file system. I could keep going!
Gooooood
Thank you!
Thank you, this is sooo helpful💗🌷
Happy to help!

and... is working anymore 😖
Oh no! Maybe your tilde key is broken 😜
@@TomFroese I fixed, I needed to keep the keyboard in US mode, instead of BR (Brazil). I just finished my art in Risograph style. I'll post it soon :)
