    Great ideas in this video. I would also add a lot of shipwrecks at the Great Barrier scene to show (instead of tell) that many have tried and failed to breach it - even powerful forces like the Romulans and Klingons.
    I would love to see these ideas form a complete (animated?) remake if a Final Cut edition proved too much to reconcile from the material available. The references to Star Treks II and III in particular would make this new version all the more worthwhile an endeavour.
    The book "The Star Trek Compendium" suggested that while Lawrence Luckinbill did a great job as the charismatic but unhinged Sybok, David Warner was RIGHT THERE and would have been brilliant as Sybok instead of the bored and lethargic Ambassador Talbot. On second thoughts, David Warner was brilliant playing dark and sinister characters with hidden pain and torment, but Sybok was never malicious in intent and I think Luckinbill fit the character remit perfectly. What do you think?

    Always loved this film. Brillant character moments for Kirk, Spock and McCoy. TMP film has a special edition so why not this?

    I just want to say that Jerry Goldsmith artwork at 2:47 is just amazing.

    Spock having a half brother makes perfect sense. Sarek was 35 years older than Amanda and Spock didn't speak of his family. Kirk didn't even know his father was the Vulcan ambassador until he was in the shuttlebay in Journey to Babel.

    I would use the planet in Shore Leave for the shore leave sequence. It makes sense that they would revisit that planet. Then we would get to see each crew members' idea of a vacation.
    I liked Spock's pain scene. It proved that Sybok didn't know everything and apparently couldn't read Spock without Spock allowing it. Since Sybok grew up with Spock and remembers what he went through, he assumed the pain was permanent. I also liked the fact that we didn't see Kirk's pain. Kirk wouldn't allow Sybok to go down that path so he cut him off. The audience is well aware of the painful moments in Kirk's life, we don't need it rehashed.
    Yes, cut out the dumb stuff like Scotty bumping his head and the romance between him and Uhura. That was kid of disturbing.

    At this point, since we're already re-casting so many of TOS characters, the way to do STV right is to recast and reshoot (and rewrite) the entire movie. We now have the technology to do Shatner's intended sequence with the rock creatures, etc. They'd also have to come up with a much more credible way to reach the center of the galaxy in a matter of hours - like the ultimate power source. I'd definitely be up for that. But for the love of God (pun intended) don't let JJ Abrams direct!

    Good points......yes fix the F/X, cut down on the corny humor and make the voyage to the Great Barrier much more "difficult".

    Nice job! I agree with pretty much everything you said and think you had some good ideas. The only other thing I'd personally change would be to shorten-up the singing in the campfire scene.... as much as I love these guys, I can't help finding that painfully cringe-y. I think there's a version of that that has the same positive effect with less chance of triggering cringe. But that's just me! I'd love to see your version with decent visual effects.

      100% understandable (and I agree to an extent). I call it "earned cringe"

      @@ANProductionsOfficialChannelTV Tropes refers to this as "narm charm" - cringe that actually works on a deeper level.

    Great Video! I think Star Trek 5 was a fantastic film - but possibly I think I automatically filled any gaps and saw the underlying potential of an amazing movie. I hope that a remake will be made soon. There are many videos expanding the Star Trek Universe.

    People keep saying how they were "searching for God." The film doesn't state this. Sybok calls it "The Ultimate Knowlege," then later they insinuate She-Ka-Ree is "Eden"... a place in which the universe began. "God" doesn't even get mentioned until the final act... when Sybok mentions his "vision." The main characters don't accept his claim. Kirk quickly says "You are crazy." Sybok humbly says "Am I? We'll see."
    The brief references to God in the next scenes, are tongue in cheek and dismissive. Like Kirk saying "God's a busy man."
    Sooooo NO! The ship and crew do NOT go searching for God. They never did. Sybok is searching for "Eden," and only until the last minute does Sybok reveal his "vision."

    I think they forgot that Kirk lost an actual brother and didn't get him back. That line should be changed somehow

    They've spent years in a starship out there... it makes sense that they would vacation on Earth. For Kirk and Bones it's coming home and for Spock, well an experience. None of this is coincidence.

    • @ANProductionsOfficialChannel
      @ANProductionsOfficialChannel  Год назад +1

      No. It is a coincidence that the Enterprise is, of course, THE ONLY STARSHIP available to handle the situation. "There has to be other starship in that sector."-Kirk.
      "Other starship, yes. But not with your experience."
      That was lame. And needs to be fixed.

    I’d have ditched having Klingons in it. Maybe had the Romulands for a change

    The problems with Star Trek V are fundamental.
    Shatner wanted to do an Exodus movie in space. A Biblical epic, which criticised teveangelism and pondered questions of God, The Devil, the soul.
    From above he was told it had to have light comedy elements like Star Trek IV.
    Already we have an issue. Serious Biblical epic and "Light comedy" don't go together.
    The other issue was Shatner's ego, and one of the films worst decisions, that wasn't even fully realized because Kelley and Nimoy said no. That is, of course, the betrayal of the Enterprise crew to rally around Sybok. Nimoy and Kelley told him no, that there is no way they would betray Kirk. Not after everything they went through. Shatner insisted on this course, even though it makes no sense.
    So we're not even to the point of putting "pen to paper" and we have three fundamental issues with the original film.

    For starters, get rid of those horrible brown field uniforms. They were so unflattering to the cast.

    Dude, why would Kirk fight to get Sybok on board with the shuttle, thereby putting his ship into enemy hands. Compare this to how Kirk told Kang to go to the devil in “Day of the Dove.”

  • @gailseatonhumbert
    @gailseatonhumbert 9 месяцев назад

    Nimoy and Kelley did not like the movie and refused to do several things that Shatner wanted. Shatner wrote the script.
    Sybock is supposed to be an evangelical tv preacher.

    It would be great to see your version, or even the old version with some decent effects. It's my least favorite Trek movie, although I don't think III (Search for Spock) is much better.

    Instead of an evil god like being. Have the god of "Sha ka ree" be an imprisoned Trelane, confirm him as a member of the Q Continuum and create someway to summon John de Lancie's Q to get rid of him. Like a beacon in space that the Enterprise crew in orbit needs to activate from above while the Away Team while the Klingon Bird of Prey distracts him.
