MY FAVORITE ALBUM Music included in the album Suck It And See (Japan Edition) or simples period 2011 - 2012 1 - Arctic Monkeys - Electricity 2 - The Blond-O-Sonic Light Trap - Arctic Monkeys 3 - Little Illusion Machine (Wirral Riddler) - Arctic Monkeys 4 - You and I - Arctic Monkeys 5 - Evil Twin - Arctic Monkeys 6 - I.D.S.T - Arctic Monkeys Arctic Monkeys - Are you mine? It is believed at this time which was included in AM (2013)
Suck it and see is probably their most disliked album, but it’s a stepping stone onto AM, they experimented with a lot of new amps and especially into a more loving tracks, they constantly changed and evolved their sound across their 8 albums, overtime these may grow on you same with a lot of people but without these two they never would’ve made AM, which as we know everybody adores :)
I have good memories of listening to it with my mates for several months when we got the vinyl. It's a lovely album, just gets outshone as their others are ridiculously good.
It's not really hated people just don't like it, SIAS has alot of AM's best songs (Love is a Laserquest, Don't Sit Down, Reckless Serenade, Hellcat spangled Shalalala, She's Thunderstorms,Suck it and See, Piledriver Waltz) and best lyrics second to TBH+C. It's just not a really good album ( to the majority of fans, i like SIAS but i do agree with them) SIAS tried to be like Humbug but a bit Poppier and Rockier without the Psychadelic part. SIAS is the reason why they made "R U Mine?" and "R U Mine?" is the reason why "AM" was created.
@@theevilloafers5235 Yeah I just find it sad that even tho most don’t hate it, it’s still scene by a large majority as their least favourite album. It’s probably my favourite of theirs overall as the lyrics and general summer sounding pop rock is just a really enjoyable listen… besides brick by brick of course😅
The purpose of Don't Sit Down because I've Moved Your Chair was to address the audience's criticism that each album had a different style of music, I believe
It takes a few listens … I wasn’t on board at first but realized that the title track is one of Alex’s best songs… and that’s where you’re wrong is my favorite closer
It's funny that they were trying to figure out the metaphor for don't sit down cause I've moved your chair when the song lyrics literally just came from an interaction Alex had with the producer where he told him to not sit down cause he had moved his chair
also don't sit down cuz i moved your chair is relating to the title of the album "suck it and see" a phrase that means you should try something before judging it, even if it doenst seems good or you don't think you'll like it "break a mirror, roll the dice" "Kung fu fighting on your rollerskates"
16:20 yeah that kind of metaphors are really obvious and a bit pretentious because the point is clear but i prefer that way of writing than in tranquility base and the car, you can't understand nothing lyrically and you can't enjoy just the instrumentals, at least in sias you catch the theme fast, can apreciate the poetry of Alex turner and you don't have to google the songs meaning
Well, i've expected that you wouldn't like it but not for what Alex does. "Boring, flat, pretentious, slow..." I mean, i've let you another comment on how important is the context of the albums, and people's state on that moment. Of course, you could give a fuck but, if you want an explanation of some things, that's what context is for. Not in every band/case, but very probably in this one. To give you an example, you are giving a similar take as Fantano does. He hates Alex's way of singing, almost over every thing the band can offer. I heard Alex mannerisms since day 1 on their first album, through every one. But for me, his singing has progressed a lot even having more mannerisms than before lol. If you don't like Alex, i guess there's not much to do cause for a lot of people he IS a great part of Monkeys charm. I liked the contrast pointed about Fake Tales tho, cause that's the point on why they almost don't play any songs of that era anymore. Turner said that they: "don't feel like the ones who wrote those anymore. When we play very old songs, it feels like being a cover band of ourselves. And that's not honest to the people who's listening them live. Even if we put the same kind of energy". I like your reactions lads, we don't need to agree but I would still see and like your videos. It's good to listen other takes too, hope you read the coments too lol. Cheers!
Of course we read the comments and I appreciate that you could agree to disagree and it’s always good to hear other peoples perspectives! Thanks so much for supporting the channel
hot take: if you dont like this you wont love AM. you might not hate it but, I think AM is overrated. most of the AM songs have the softness and popiness of this album with the exception of a few tracks. I think ya'll will like TBHC a decent amount because you though the Car was alright. His crooning singing is intentional. I don't think its about him trying to match the tone, clearly he can, its a decision. I personally like it.
Yeah I just can’t connect with that album. I do enjoy a few songs though (btw you should check out the original Piledriver Waltz version from the Submarine EP. It’s under Alex’s name. Beautiful song). In terms of vocals, Alex greatly improves by AM and from that point on he became a more rounded singer. As for the lyrics, the longwinded and abstruse metaphors are a huge part of what makes AT one of the best modern lyricists. But I do agree that sometimes on this album it feels like he’s just saying words to say them. Anyways can’t wait for AM. I love some of their albums more but it’s a mood. It’s the easiest on the ears and very straightforward lyrically. It’s a fun time for what it is! I appreciate your honesty even tho the Humbug hate broke my heart lol
Brick by brick is a pretty shit tune to be totally honest. You seem to like the more simple stuff and are averse to the more interesting lyrics and better musicianship. Each to their own.
I just thought it was the best of a bad bunch which isn’t saying too much. I think most of the album was an attempt at “better musicianship” which failed. Vitally my entire music taste/sense isn’t determined by my opinion on one album.
@@bound2214 this is one of their weaker albums tbf with a few gems amongst it imo. I agree that their attempts at better musicianship don't always hit the mark, but Alex Turner is a very good lyricist, even if you don't instantly understand it, that's kind of what makes it more interesting. All their albums are critically acclaimed...but music is about personal taste too, so if it's not your thing then you might miss or dismiss the strengths of the song writing and musicianship. Not really a critique of you guys, there's loads of albums I'm not into that others love.
@@taz454 yeh I understand but I think it’s always important to account for the skill of being able to connect with people more so than just the literature in the lyricism. Sometimes simplicity to engage and then small sparks of metaphor for example is more effective. I think a balance is important as with anything.
@@bound2214 I guess it depends on what you want from a lyricist. If you want it to connect in a mass appeal kind of way and you're chasing hits then I guess you're right. They seem to have moved away from mass appeal and now just right whatever the fuck they want, whether people like it or not.
@@taz454 Not necessarily mass appeal no I mean just in order to be effective with the lyrics, overuse (at least imo) of metaphors for example just means they become less effective each time for me and creates lost directness and intention
