      where I am in the US, you take your actual fabric curtains, however - curtain rods that are mounted to the wall stay with the house unless otherwise stated on the contract, which often results in blinds or shades, depending on how they are mounted, staying with the home. It’s something to do with the legal definition of “permanent fixtures” which by default stay - I know when we listed our old home that had a mounted tv, our realtor specified on the contract that the mounting bracket as a permanent fixture would stay but that the tv would be coming with us (It shouldn’t have needed to be specified because the tv itself wasn’t actually a fixture but I guess our realtor had dealt with a buyer who pitched a fit over this in the past). I can’t imagine living with someone else’s fabric curtain choices. I wonder if Australia’s “curtains stay with the house” thing is the result of something like this, where they are considered permanent fixtures.

    This made me lowkey want an elder playthrough. There could be some type of challenge to complete (like an aspiration before your sim passes, maybe help them find love, etc) and it would be super fun because elderly sim series/playthroughs arent common!

    • @meady50
      @meady50 9 месяцев назад

      they probably aren’t common because you couldn’t get too many videos out of it, but if you set the lifespan to a custom number or just to very long then I could see that working. I wanna do that now

    this reminds me so much of my grandparents' apartment tbh. 80s building, but all traditional furniture. Also I think the recliners are a nice touch, because although they don't fit the style it seems like something they bought when they got older because of comfort, not aesthetics. very realistic tbh lol.

    My ten year old is a type 1 diabetic, we definitely have random medical supplies sitting around the house so I think it’s neat that you decided to add in things like that. Does anyone else find grandfather clocks creepy? 😂 We now have my grandfather’s because he loved that thing and it was expensive but I just find them unsettling for some reason lol. In Germany we will always move with curtains. I did get some weird jalousie things in my living room with the apartment, but that was only because the former tenant moved to an elderly care home and I could choose what I wanted from her furniture. There are very few furnished apartments, and the only one of those I was actually inside did not have curtains. Often, not even the kitchen will be included in apartments (tho many tenants who don't want to move a fitted kitchen out will sell it to the next tenant). But it's very much possible the apartment you rent is just walls, floor, doors, windows and the bathroom necessities (I even had to put flooring in the living room).

Buttttt it would be so cool if you built the old home they were living in and clicked to move the furniture items from the house into this, might have even made it easier to map out already knowing what items you had from the old home! The pink kids room reminds me so much of my gramz. Her first home that I got to stay in (my dad’s old home) she had done up the two kids rooms in themes: one green, one pink. And then when she downsized and moved into her former vacation home, the “kids” room was the lavender room for so long. Everything was lavender, and she even had fake lavender branches hanging up. This apartment decor is so familiar and comforting to me, and clearly judging by the comments, so many others.

    Yes, in the states, most of the time, we have to put up our own curtains and even the hardware to hang them. Sometimes, they will provide blinds. In Los Angeles we have to drag around a refrigerator too because most rentals do not provide one. 😅😅

  • @jdmonkey123
    @jdmonkey123 11 месяцев назад

    In the US, we have blinds in more apartments, curtains are BYO and you take them with yoi when you move. Alot of apartments you can't do any "renovations" like adding hooks to the wall without permission. It could differ in different areas but most just comes with blinds, kitchen and bathroom, no ceiling lights or fans in some cases

    It's kind of a "rags to riches but building in SanMyshuno edition" vibe. You start off in a crummy appartment that is empty... build it up and once it's nice , you sell it and move on to a bigger/nicer appartment that is also empty and play through to save enough to decorate it... it's a fun challenge because over the generations you go through all the appartments in SanMyshuno

    yeah cause here you don't really buy curtains, you buy the fabric and stuff you need (like the hoops, hooks and all that). Buildings are from various ages and so are the systems for hanging the curtains, so you need to adjust to that and the windows you have - in the old days lot of windows were custom sizes, so 'standart' curtains my not work. Then you sew the curtains at home/ask someone to do it. And if you move you take them with you and shorten them if needed.
    Also we have 2 kinds of curtains at once. The classic solid colourful ones you know - to block the light. And white lace ones that don't block light, but prevents people outside from seeing what's inside your home during the day.

    We really do need an elder's pack. There is stuff for literally every other age group. I do understand that they don't last very long if you have the time and aging settings at default but for people that turn all that off and play the "long" game. Especially since Growing Together came out, it would be a nice touch. Walkers, bath seats, portable oxygen tanks, stair lifts, etc.

    What would be good is an actual pack with deals with disability. We've already got hearing aids as well as insulin patches but other visability is missing, ie people with mobility issues. so walkers, walking sticks wheelchairs, scooters. Grab rails. All of which can be used for your elderly sims too.
    I don'tr mean items but acutal usable things sure it would mean new programing but i think it would help a lot of people feel included in the game. Sure right now we can have our ideal version of ourselkves but I'd like to be able to create me disability and all.
    I think it would also help kids see themselves and realsise that being different isn't a bad thing. I'd also love more scar options.

    The US is byo curtains and you're right, it doesn't make sense. Sometimes if the windows are particularly large or custom shaped, homeowners will leave them when you buy.

    The the places I've lived in the US, I have never seen curtains come with an apartment. However, blinds are standard and are typically considered "part" of the unit. I have swapped out some of mine because they were in such rough shape lol. Honestly I feel like having curtains from a previous tenant sounds pretty strange. Interesting to learn that it may be a normal thing in elsewhere though.

    I enjoyed this built, the only thing that is missing is a bath tub imo. a lot of elderly people need to take baths. I definitely know grandparents that have money and live in more modern spaces but have kept their old stuff :)

    This is perfect timing! I just moved to a modern apartment and own more unique antique, secondhand, or crafted furnishings 😆 My old apartment was a Brooklyn brownstone, so it all fit beautifully. It's fun trying to make this apartment more cozy. I wish. I had the growing-together rugs in real life! They are my favorite. The recliner is SO realistic. I never think to put those in my builds.

    Yes Deli, absolutely! Curtains are what you purchase yourself, they are your belonging, your 'furniture'. It's a whole market and you also pick and choose in the store which curtains you like. When you move out, you bring your curtains with you just like you would with chairs or anything else. It is honestly bizar to me that I would rent a place and there are already curtains in it. A little bit disgusting to be honest, since other people would have used those then... And also, what if you don't like the curtains?! Isn't it normal that you just buy what you like? LOL

    Most places have blinds on the windows but you can put up curtains. I have both on all my windows. But usually curtains aren't provided. Plus if they would they'd just be plain white ones and I'd hate to pay for something I'm going to replace.

    In the Midwest of the US often blinds are in the windows of rentals, but if you want curtains you have to supply them.

    This is oddly comforting to watch. super cute! by the way, btw I'm from Canada Ontario and every apartment I moved around had either blinds or I brought my own curtains which are now covered with cat claws from each apartment haha!

    I rent in the US and yeah it's BYOC (bring your own curtain) but almost always the rental will already have blinds. I got lucky with the place I'm renting now having really nice wooden blinds, but had to get blackout curtains for the heat. it's just too hot to not have them. especially with single-pane windows. another rental special lol.

    ChatGPT says: Manila folders are called so because they were originally made from a type of brownish-yellow paper that was sourced from Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. This paper was durable and affordable, making it a popular choice for creating folders and envelopes. Over time, the term “Manila folder” became widely used to refer to any folder made from this type of paper, even if it was produced elsewhere.
