Another great review Felix, we need an entire new list aside from a few standouts.
Whats so frustrating about the bombers is how we've always been mediocre (Obviously).
But what I mean is we never dropped to the bottom of thr ladder or culled our list. Weve just been...average..
Year after year we show signs out some amazing footy. Beating teams clearly better than, taking it up to stronger sides. But then we just fall away and aleays finish mid table.
Its frustrating knowing we have the capacity to play well but some how are just incapable yo produce it week after week.
With sheeds and dorito gone, maybe thats a sign of change but given our histroy who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️
    Go bombers i guess 🙃

It’s clever by Brad Scott set the bar so low the first year that anything is an improvement

Can't help but agree with the sentiment that with Dedoro moving on and Sheeds stepping away from the board, there is opportunity. What that is no one can say. Optimistic me says it's an opportunity for fresh ideas, a calming influence that encourages growth over the methods we're used to seeing with selection. Season 2024 sure went by fast didn't it? The way we dropped off was disappointing no doubt about it. A lot of similarities to last season as well. We uncovered some talent this year as well. Take from this season what you will, I'll always be the optimist and have the glass half full outlook. Thanks for the uploads mate, enjoyed them and found them useful. Buckle up Dons we're in this to the end and the season may be ending but our ride is far from over.

It would make sense that next season Martin is a lock for the wing with not only Roberts coming in but also El-hawli. That alone makes a huge difference.
If we can find some small forwards not just in Kako but someone else who can snap up the ground balls and make them count, that would make a huge difference too.
Finally, god only knows why Durham isnt playing midfield anymore. Him and merrett are the only onballers that can legitimately break lines with serious pace. And when merrett is tagged out of the game, why on earth wouldnt you swap him out for Durham and see if that makes a difference

I'm pretty sure Heppell himself said he didn't want to take a spot from one of the younger guys coming through.
Sydney were just Sydney and we were in a different league.
Our forward structure and delivery into it is just atrocious. It seems like all of our forwards fight to fly up for the mark, rather than working out who will fly and who will stay down and crumb. It is just pathetic to watch the ball go forward. We all know the drill. It will bounce back out quick, or, we will have a shot and kick a point.
The backs played their guts out as usual.
The young guys were awesome as usual . Archie Roberts is looking amazing already. We need that toughness in the team.

My two cents on changes.... Drop Parish and Cox and start building Tastas and Hobbs up. Hobbs is tough as nails. Tsatas has a good footy brain.
Parish is a ball getter but a terrible deliverer. Cox just comes across as a lazy player. He always half goes for a tackle or puts in half effort most the time.

Really hard to assess. We are elite in the middle and between the arc's. Our backline is top heavey and lacks speed, they are top shelf in the air but once the ball hits the deck its almost embarrassing. Kelly isnt an afl level talent, cox simply doesn't measure up especially in defence, why the weed got a game has be baffled, our biggest areas in desperate need of attention are the forwards, not really about personnel its about having forward "craft" where they stop leading to the same spots, and simply having that charlie cameron type 6th sense for a goal. It may need some tweaking on our delivery but i truly believe its our forwards not presenting correctly. Wright only leads if hes the only player inside 50 otherwise he looks to take a big grab(low %) Langford has half an idea but sometimes needs to know hes the 2nd fiddle not #1. Stringer is hard to assess, when he gets the ball its usually positive but 7 possessions a game dont cut it. As for smalls.....the davey boys are here by name alone(and tex wanganeen) they're rubbish, caddy seems to have forwards knowledge but hes a baby. I would be concentrating singularly on how we
#1 transition the ball through the middle in order to have it in the right hands entering 50
    #2 lead patterns
#3 working in unison inside 50 instead of hindering each other.
#4 LEADERSHIP!!!! Our on field leaders are Merrit, maybe stringer on a good day, and dyson after that who? McGrath??? Yeah....nah. we need leaders to ensure structure. Anyway thats my novel. Peace Felix thanks for making a bleak year that tiny bit brighter.

Also the fact that Duz has been all but moved to high half forward to cover Shiel and Parish is a bad call at selection. When he was there cracking in earlier in the season we were actually winning games.

I think a few teams have improved, bottom teams. All the top teams have gone backwards. Like after a 2 month slump, werent that good all year, most games we should have done better, and people actually gave us some chance against the top team. The last 10 years, this game it would have been how much, and the betting would have been a 100 point loss.

I've been following the Bombers since 1946. Through all the ups and downs and we always were able to get back on top. I expect that same will happen again but watching them the last 6 to 7 games makes me wonder what the he'll is going on. We have talent but it just doesn't come together on match day. Very disappointing for all our fans. We live on expectations but it all falls flat at the wrong end of the season.

  • @Nigel680
    @Nigel680 2 месяца назад

This could be long, but there's a lot to comment on
    1) we win a lot of the ball in the middle and have a lot of inside 50's. Dale Tapping, our forwards coach, can he not teach our forwards to keep the forward line open instead of all rushing to the same spots when the ball comes in...or alternatively just standing around with no movement...where is the forward craft? where are the subtle movements to block or open up space for each other to lead into?? And why do our biggest, strongest forwards such as Peter Wright not run, jump and attack the fall of the ball regardless of who is in the way? And why did we get rid of Patrick Voss, a big, strong forward who does this well (and won our VFL best and fairest because of it?)
    2) Our backs get all the blame but it must be a nightmare to defend when when there is zero pressure upfield. The modern game is a turnover game. that means pressure (starting in the forward line and extending down the ground), 2 or 3 players pressuring around the ball until someone gets a fingernail in, effects a turnover and then you go down the field while the opposition are out of position and kick an easy goal. Our players dont consistently apply pressure, especially the forwards and mids, leaving their mates down back to look like idiots. This is hard to do with 3 or 4 tall forward "giraffes", with Gresham (who hardly does it), Menzie (who used to do it well, but not anymore) and stringer, who sometimes does it. Alwyn Davey is bloody good at it but is inconsistent, and Hind can do it too. This is the key to the modern game. Why does our club not value it? (Both coaches with selection and players with execution)
    3) Why do we not value players who have good skills and good decision making? Instead we draft either a) skinny tall players who take years to develop physically or b)midgets with questionable skills. Right from day one, Zach Merrett was said to have been a good kick with good decision making skills, we got him at about pick 26, I think. Why are players who kick well not prioritised? They can always build on their endurance and toughness and in todays turnover game, even when you are playing bad or under pressure, they can get you out of trouble by being able to hit targets. Why did we only take Archie Roberts at pick 56? ( he is already top 10 for us in kicking and game smarts and he only played 2 games) why did we give Massimo D'ambrosio away for nothing after hardly giving him a game or a defined role??
These are 3 pretty simple things that a team of 50 or so full time, well paid players, coaches and staff should be able to figure out pretty easily

How can he say we've improved when we constantly make the same errors and have the same terrible efforts week on week for the past 2 seasons. Embarrassing. You think Sam Mitchell would stand for some of the efforts of these senior players?

So, Dodoro is gone, I personally don't think people understand how big this is for the club. Fresh air. Now, we need to clean out the dead wood/passengers. But, it's going to be tricky with Dodoro signing players not worthy, to huge deals! I'd do everything to move on, McGrath, Wright, Draper?, Menzie, Perkins, Cox, Kelly, Weideman, Shiel, Laverde, Stringer. Obviously not all in one off season, but, unless any of them show they are willing to get mentally stronger, a more killer instinct, then trade them all.

There doesn't appear to be anyone in the club (admin or player) that has the balls to stand up and publicly declare they've had enough of it.

I'm sick of watching these conditional footballers, choosing when to chase, block, sheppard or tackle, depending on how they feel.
To me the rot in attitude goes back to our pre-season practice match against the saints...The warning signs were there..Some will say it's only a practice game, but what were we practicing for? To be a fair weather, lazy, uncommitted football side? The coaches need to apply some tough love pre-season..It needs to be drummed into all of them, every time you pull on that jumper nothing less than 100% effort at the contest is acceptable.
We could easily de-list 6 players and try to trade a few more..Trading Parish and shiel is a no brainer,..promote Tsatas and Hobbs..Parish and shiel provide nothing when they dont have the pill...The notion we could lose 2 or 3 young talented guys, not long on our list, due to not making tough calls horrifies me...Hopefully the lions smash us to drive the message home....Over it.......Anyways sorry for the rant.

    Things we should consider:
    - Don't sign Stringer. (I truly believe this guy on his best is our #1 player but him on his average is not even top 10).
    - Trade Parish and Shiel. (These guys don't add anything to the team at all. Get value from them whilst we can, we have an abundance of mids and don't need these guys taking away from their exp)
    - Draft taller mids.
