hey thiojoe, you may not even read this comment, but if you do, I want to thank you for making videos. Simply making them! Every single one literally throughout the years has played a role in shaping my knowledge of computers and increasing my interest in them. You have contributed a lot, to a large audience. For this, I'm very grateful and I hope you continue doing this!

BTW, at 2:38 isn't the action center sort of the newer, better, and more advanced mobility center? I remember that this used to be useful in older versions of windows, but in win10, I thought it would be a bit old. The cipher tool is great, will experiment safely with it. But ofcourse, the sysinternals suite was the best of all, please could you make not just one, but a few seperate videos about that? Maybe a video for an overview, then into specific ones? It seems like you never run out of content, I think this would be a great idea for a video series!

One application in the Sysinternals Suite is called "Desktops.exe." It enables 3 extra virtual desktops in old Windows versions that didn't have virtual desktops, and you can change the hotkeys by running the program again. One feature that I find really handy is that the virtual desktops DO NOT show the items on the main desktop, which is good if you need a lot of space.
    (Click read more.)
    POSSIBLE HOTKEY COMBINATIONS:
    HOST KEYS: HOTKEYS:
    Windows Key
    Alt + 1, 2, 3, 4
    Shift F1, F2, F3, F4
    Ctrl

Cipher is just a CLI to control the long-standard encrypt attribute of NTFS available in the file/folder property dialog box.
Be very careful about this as the keys are stored in the registry and if lost, the files are gone. Also, if you copy the files out of the folder and cross file systems, the file is no longer encrypted.
Be very careful using this especially in a corporate environment where you have regulatory requirements to escrow crypto keys. There are plenty of tools to enable key escrow in an Active Directory environment which should be setup first before files are encrypted.

One of the coolest feature that windows has and I just found out not too long ago is the "snipping tool". It allows us to take a screenshot of a small space anywhere on the computer screen and save it. Before start using this tool I had to do the print screen, open it in graphic software like paint, crop, and save. The snipping tool does it all.

a helpful thing to note wrt the sound mixer - since microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to make it significantly harder to access the Sound panel (which I do all the time for various reasons) a convenient shortcut is to open the sound mixer (which I usually just keep open in the background anyway after the first time I do this in a session) and then click on the System Sounds icon, which will bring you to that tab in Sound, from where you can access whatever it is you're actually there for

Regarding the Windows key + shortcut to start programs in the quick start toolbar, this is fine if you only have nine programs in the toolbar. I use it every time I boot up. However, I have twenty icons in my QS toolbar! After number nine the shortcut method becomes rather useless!

  • @tonyme7426

Getting to this a bit late but....cipher has been part of windows courses for years. Nothing secret about that. You can also encrypt using the advanced properties of a folder/file in Windows Explorer. Nothing new. You forget to mention the dangers though. To encrypt the user generates a local certificate that should be exported (I know you sort of mentioned it). Which means if the OS is changed/reinstalled the encrypted files can't be decrypted (unless you did export the certificate). If the user leaves your company and you haven't generated a data recovery agent certificate (which needs to be done before you start encrypting), you have no way of decrypting those files. Thirdly, the user hast to have full acces rights on the folders/files they wish to encrypt. Your math input panel is just part of the tablet tools which have been around since Vista.
The BASH was added for remote connections to cloud environments. Please do some research as people seem to use your videos as a source of information.

Nice video. The Volume mixer is also available on Windows 7, I have used it a lot. The process explorer software has been around for a long time, I remember using it I think back on Windows 98 or XP... hasn't changed much, always handy. The BASH shell is awesome. As a developer that is a far superior environment for software development so I feel Microsoft was smart to include that. I use development software that is open source and cross platform when I develop on Windows where a BASH shell would be very handy and simplify things.
