    I must admit I was very rude to my mother! (And I am NOT proud of it)....I watched the video after recording it and believe me it was a rude awakening for me. I was so shocked at how disrespectful I was to her. I am glad I did record this video as it has really shown me how horrible I was and how NOT to treat her. Believe me my mum is the best mum in the world and I have made a pledge to treat her accordingly. If you view our other videos in our channel you will see that I have changed my ways.

    Thank you for your comment. Yes I realize I was rude to my Mum in this video...this was the very first video we did...however if you look at our whole channel you will see that I am gradually no longer rude and we both evolve to enjoying this experience together. My mum is very patient with me and I appreciate it.

    She's retrying windows 8 on a Microsoft surface pro tablet in a few months. It's that that this was the first video we made and she was very biased towards windows xp at the time. Doing these videos has made her much more open to other operating systems so revisiting windows 8 is a great idea.

    I have a mac laptop running Mac OS X Snow Leopard... If this video gets enough views I'll turn this into a series with her trying out all different kinds of crazy operating systems. Seriously there's some graphical ones back from the 70's and so many different Linux ones too. But I'm not sure yet because so far theres only 4 like on reedit and 3 dislikes and only 1 like on this video... Shes not so crazy about getting embarrassed so maybe 10,000 views or 100 likes and she may want to try more ;)

    I would have been fine if windows 8 had a feature you could turn off and on called "tablet mode". Tablet mode should remove the start button and replace it with the start screen as windows 8 is right now but desktop mode should give you the desktop with the start button and start menu. Like this comment if you think Microsoft should add a "tablet mode" and "desktop mode" feature!

    After a week of using Windows 8 I would say that I am not as frustrated as Mum seems to be here. But she does have a point about some of her criticisms.Two additional things to add: Windows 8 minimalist look is all well and fine but it is not very user friendly. At least in the beginning.
    Another problem is how the Chrome icon keeps disappearing from the start menu. It makes you wonder if Microsoft is trying make customers use their own products instead anything Google-related.

  • @ianbanks3016
    @ianbanks3016 6 лет назад +6

    The basic problem with Windows 8 was it was entirely unintuitive for long-time Windows users, plus it gave you no instruction about hot corners or the charms bar (dreadful name). You either had to have done research beforehand to learn how to use it or look at some online tutorials. Any OS that unintuitive is already failing. No business wants to spend time and money teaching employees how to use the latest version of an OS they've been using for decades. Windows 8 was primarily designed for consumption, not creation. That was a mistake, and it rightly cost Sinofsky his job.

  • @OsFirstTimer

    Wow, you must really like the videos if you are watching a video more than once ;)

  • @jouebien
    @jouebien 10 лет назад +5

    When you set windows 8 up for the first time it has a splash screens on how to access the charms menu, start screen and close apps. Windows 8.1 has a tutorial that pops up when you first log in. So you should know the new things that are in the GUI its not like they hide away info on how to use the system.
    We have had the same windows 95 style GUI for 19 years its about time Msoft did something different. I don't see any one complaining when apple switched from OS9 to OS 10 which was drastically different?
    I had the previews of windows 8 then bought it and then bought it for my parents. After a 1 hour explanation of the changes they knew how to use it and no longer bug me for "how do I do this?" like they did constantly with windows 7 or XP.

Gaming handhelds are definitely a thing right now in 2024. If Microsoft brought back the Start Screen - and this is the important bit - ported from Windows 8 as another UI for Windows 12 or whatever, I think people would definitely enjoy using Windows on a tablet.

    At first I didn't like Windows 8. I actually used to hate it with a passion. But then after about 6 months of using it, I started to like it. Windows 8 isn't that bad at all. Most of the people who hate it never took the time to learn how to use it. Some people say that it is hard to use. I don't think that it is hard to use at all. I still think that Windows 7 is far superior to Windows 8 but Windows 8 isn't terrible.

    She gets it soo right, it is like a cartoonish version of an older Windows that needs fixing - all so Microsoft can try to leverage their existing desktop market to get into the tablet market .. which since release has been a dismal failure.

    I like windows 8 only if it is on a tablet computer. The problem is that now windows 8 is released and many people don't like it they can of course stick to windows 7 for a little while... But guess what! Microsoft won't go back. It's just like from windows 3.11 to windows 95. A massive change yet all future versions of windows kept the start menu and task bar. The same is most likely true for windows 8 and future releases. So its either windows 7 forever, upgrade to win8/newer or change OS.

    I have to say that I agree with Diana. She has a point with how it’s just changed. Microsoft should’ve made two or three versions for it, one focused on desktops and laptops what don’t have touchscreens, a version for Windows tablets and one for hybrids (like the Surface). She says it’s gone a step back because of Microsoft’s thinking, and Diana’s theory, and I think too, is that it ain’t broke, don’t bloody fix it. I hope you understand.

    I have Windows 8.1 on my desktop computer and to be honest, I love it!!! Even though some people say the live tiles suck, you can overcome it by not going to the start menu to often....

    • @MayvinLimMohan
      @MayvinLimMohan 9 лет назад

      Plus the desktop is just right there.... you can run older programs by setting the compatibility mode... isn't that easy? Windows 8/8.1 is in fact worth paid for or worth downloading

    • @MayvinLimMohan
      @MayvinLimMohan 9 лет назад

      It is not wasting money but I said to use it LESS... use it when necessary ... I didn't say to not use it AT ALL, that is why Microsoft is using their common sense to make the start menu and add in the start button

    • @MayvinLimMohan
      @MayvinLimMohan 9 лет назад

      Once per month?? Dude, I said when necessary, like when you want to go to Windows Metro Apps

    • @MayvinLimMohan
      @MayvinLimMohan 9 лет назад

      But that would take a lot of time, you can acess desktop apps through the desktop or file explorer, but you can only acess metro apps through the start screen

    Windows 8 (preferably 8.1) was amazing, Go on, Try it in a virtual machine. I used windows 8/8.1 for years and I knew straight away when I was 5 how to use it. Its interface is customizable, pretty, It isn't as bloated as ten, Boots up extremely fast no matter your specs. Windows 8.1 beats windows 10 for me. It's just tricky for non techy people to use if they don't see the little tutorial while installing. Some of the start background are live time and spin as you scroll, I loved that horizontal scrolling, they should of never changed it.! If you disagree with me that's completely okay but I find it people base their opinions only on others opinions. Also, Phil your channel has come such a long way since this video! I've watched this channel since I was 7 or 8
