We got some exchange students from Japan and I was lucky enough to meet one of them and be able to call them my friend. He was given the hardest test the AP Statistics teacher offered and he got full marks on it while the rest of the class struggled with the study guide. @kenmahyu "at what cost" means at the cost of being stressed and suicidal. Being academically advanced is not important. Why go to Harvard and cram schools when you can become an electrician or welder and make 100k salary? Trade schools provide more benefits to society than individual academics

This is literally the one thing I want to do if I ever go to the US. American schools seem more entertaining than in the UK😭 So thanks for this experience ahah
@@Lee_333. The work can be easier if you want it to be. There are different levels of difficulty to go through high school. You can choose to take the general level classes, or you can choose to level up and take Honors classes, or you can go even higher and take AP/IB level classes. The point is you get to choose how difficult you want to make it. The environment is still chill, like you can wear a tracksuit to class if you want to, but don't assume that this video is reflective of what all schooling is like in the US.
I will say the whole “boys club” deal in American schools is quite nice. If your new or you don’t have a group, you’ll be swarmed by guys coming to introduce you or help you get established in the ecosystem.
The worst thing about US public school systems is that the quality of the education depends almost entirely on the wealth / tax money of the people in the area. This means that kids in wealthier towns (that have wealthier parents) will have access to better public (free) schools than kids in less wealthy towns, purely because they receive more funding. It's also a self-fulfilling cycle, since real estate agencies and landlords in towns with better schools can put more expensive prices on housing due to the appeal of sending your kids to a good school.
definitely. my town has excellent education and my school is good too, i'm not complaining, but some of the towns over can afford ipads for all their kids, while it's probably not the same story up in hartford or other unfortunately poorer areas where i live in CT
I go to an American private, and one of two things would happen: 1. People seem interested in you the first day, and then ignore you for the rest of the year OR 2. Only the kids that don't pay attention in school talk to you, and it's to make fun of you
He had so many predetermined ideas instead of just observing…..he made immediate opinions based on his thoughts. I guess he’s allowed to take videos during class at home too…hmmmm. Wanting to learn is something everyone should want because no one likes stupid.
It really depends on the student . There’s many students who want to challenge themselves to try to get into a highly competitive university. If one wants to take more challenging classes there’s options to take advanced placement classes that are more in line to university courses and they’re hard. Otherwise you take the basic curriculum to graduate. That’s one big thing about the US schools - freedom to choose, as not everyone chooses to go to college after high school. Just like we don’t need to wear uniforms to school for the most part . One thing: Having pep rallies and homecoming, you cannot experience that anywhere else except American high school and those were always fun!
You can choose the option of 'college' after lower school in the UK too. However, you can also choose to specialise early into a course for a specific job, an apprenticeship where you are employed with a company and learn a trade at age 16, or you can do extra studies for specific subjects and go to university or a higher level apprenticeship when you are 18 for degree level education for a specific topic
@@mar420.74 oh basically, everyone in british schools goes around in little groups and don’t really get on with each other so there’s that for a start. also lots of brits don’t like americans i’m afraid…

We hosted foreign exchange students, from England and Sweden for the entire school year. Both students were Seniors in high school and were considered advanced in their countries, however; neither tested in for any advanced math, English or government courses and were placed in the mediocre classes as they struggled to keep up.
Neither would study USA Government systems,, they way USA teaches advanced Maths is completely weird even naming processes is weird so we don't understanding what you mean half the time. English and American English is often like trying to speak two different languages.
This video makes me ALMOST want to go to an American highschool. Compared to Italian ones, they seem more chill and way easier, especially regarding dress code since I saw people wearing shorts above their knees and even fuckn pajama's (do that in Italy and you get suspended or you won't be allowed to access school that day
Bear in mind that comes with an increased risk of a premature visit to the undertakers. The Spanish they teach is different to the Spanish taught in Europe.
I was meant to go on an exchange program to a New York high school last year with 6 other kids in my school, but my renewed passport didn't arrive in time lol. I always think about how people would've interacted with me, and the experience as a British girl in NYC, so it's cool seeing someone else live this out; I almost feel like I'm there. Thanks. p.s. my passport arrived literally the day after the kids left 😑
I remember when I was showing my German exchange student around the school she was surprised with drinking fountains being everywhere. All the schools in American have different curriculum. It depends on if they are in a rich neighborhood vs poor neighborhood because the taxes pay for the school.
Honestly the vibe seems so chill unlike the school I go to, everyone has their own sorta groups and just avoids each other, plus nobody's really just greeting each other like this which I think is way better
It's so interesting to me, as an American, to see how different schools can be and the things different schools teach their students. Even though its all one country the schools are so diverse.
My school had pizza every single day or school lunch on a tray that was different every day. Most people just got pizza every day though cause it was actually decent. They bought it from somewhere.
@@Checkmate777 lucky, the only pizza we get are a very bad microwaved pizza that gets microwaved with the tray, so the pizza sticks to the tray and you have to peel it off
Honestly it’s 100% the school, the schools in the USA range and there’s definitely some with better curricular, such as more honors or AP classes and better teachers and class work. The math ur learning was taught in middle school and the depiction of art was a concept we had to practice in 8th
Lol this is so true and accurate! Welcome to a typical day in an American public school. Many are much worse. It’s why people who can afford it send their kids to private schools or move to an area where public schools are excellent. Same thing because lots of money are required for both options.
Public schools all vary depending on funding, the state, the county within the state, the district, and what city within that state you're in. In the high school I went to, we didnt have two story buildings everything was just separate buildings, we had two separate buildings that were for gym class, Horticulture/Agriculture had their own building and greenhouse for plants and animals, classes pertaining to careers had their own building(i.e. Vocational building), along with band and choir having their own building. We didnt have art class, only had one spanish teacher who just kinda decided to dip out during the latter half of the year to go on a cruise which caused majority of our grades to fail because we were being taught in a hands on approach prior to that. Also there are likee 4-5 different school districts in just the county I live in within my state alone, for quite a while my school was super lax with rules up until The Incidents that kept landing us on local news because our principal was older than basically everyone on the Board of Education along with being within the school system longer than any of them were too, outside of the (boarding class teacher) And Lockdowns, lockdowns drills are wild to me still cause I remember when they first were implemented, I was in middle school. Even as an american seeing that its been normalized is crazy especially when I have been through an actual code red lockdown three times during high school and during one of them the perpetrator was someone who'd threatened to k!ll me, the other hs students, the little elementary schoolers, and the driver on the bus earlier that day all because I accidentally sat in a different seat that morning.
@Galidorquest we definitely weren't privileged, when it came to laxness on phone use and being able to leave school to get food from our local gas station, dollar general, or subway, sure but definitely not priviledged. Some of the buildings were made of asbestos, the food and milk was often moldy, and they have actively hidden police brutality, what truly caused the code red situation and three instances of death, one of which was a suicide that happened on campus. Then 2 years of being in high school half of the school got torn down and as all of it was one floor buildings that spanned across the land it made getting to class harder, especially on days when there was rain/a storm frequently causing people to slip into a shit ton of mud or just slip all over the concrete and gravel or nearly get struck by lightning. The multiple city schools here are definitely more priviledged, they actually get funding albeit the strict rules some have they also get actual good cafeteria food that doesn't send kids to the hospital with food poisoning on a daily basis. Plus the old principal ended up handing the principal position to his son who was incredibly strict when he came in during my last year there. They ended up finishing construction and implementing loads of classes and actual helpful stuff when Class of 2020(my graduation class) left. Recently, they let someone who nearly shot up the school back into school so I really wouldn't say it's a priviledge, like theybstraight up made all those kids continue class like normal even though everyone knew someone on campus had a gun on them and who it was specifically. Also we weren't allowed field trips or field days because some people nearly 15 years ago fucked that up for everyone. We all WISHED we could've gone to a city school instead despite how snobby they acted towards us for being rural country kids. They had real priviledge since they only had to go to school 5-6 hours compared to mine who even during a literal hurricane, we had to be in school, ready to be there by 7:30 by car, on a bus by 6 with school ending at 3. They also had vending machines and lockers, which my school barely had any lockers so.... :/
Exactly. Overall, Americans are one of the most educated nationalities in the world, with higher educational attainment levels than virtually every European country, including the UK. It very arguably has _the_ best higher learning institutions in the world too. But of course it varies so much. You go to a rural Mississippi school, you may find the education is very dumbed-down (no offense, Mississippi). You go to suburban school in Massachusetts, it is one of the best-educated places on the planet. U.S. states are more analogous to entire European countries in many respects than is the entire United States, and this is something Europeans from unitary countries often fundamentally do not understand about the U.S. Truly it is a _union_ of _states_ doing much of this stuff independently... As for his example assignment, where you are just adding 3 again and again... I am pretty skeptical... I think it is more likely that that was just an initial example, to teach the students what the teacher meant, before they go into more complex sequences from there. Because I was learning calculus and much more complicated math in public school at that age, so I'm just not buying it. It's European confirmation bias probably. They go in thinking "these kids are so dumb" and just look for examples to fit that bias. Meanwhile these kids graduate and go on to build computers and do heart surgery.
I went to a public school most of my life in the southern United States, and the food was amazing and pretty good quality. And the cafeteria cooks gave us a good amount of food on our trays. Actually got full from lunch.
@@elnaby nah Fr tho you did, my middle school gave us dominos or pats pizza. The rest of the stuff wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t as bad as the shit in the video 😭
There's definitely a different energy in American schools, or at least this one. Freedom of expression at my school in the UK kinda felt less, the teachers' word was law. The Deputy Headteacher would go into rages and scream in our faces, until kids cried and then some. Misbehave bad enough and they'd put you in the isolation room for a day or more, people would get detention for having something slightly wrong with their uniform or because their parents dropped them off late. They expected us to be quiet in the corridors and just go to class.
@@azrael_pendragonI go to an American school and I meannn the teachers don’t really care and u can be skipping classes and stuff if u cool with the guards 😂
I don’t think people from the UK realize how different each school is. Each school is drastically different from town to town, not even counting state to state. In my same city, one school is on a “college schedule” (which they are pretty behind in most subjects), then you have the poorer school (which was literally just in a lockdown this week), then you have the wealthier school (which is, in my opinion, just as smart as schools in the UK). And that’s just in the same city. Each state teaches a different curriculum, and change drastically in their teachings. My state is really good with education, and if I moved to New Mexico (which is the worst ranked educationally) I would be ahead of their education by atleast a year. The math in this video I learned while I was probably in 6th grade, I too was shocked that High Schoolers were learning that. And it was probably just review for a unit they were just starting. I am also not in any advanced math, I am only a sophomore (10th grader) in high school, and I am learning way more advanced stuff than that. Also, I very much disagree with the intro. Americans are not stupid, you just have a biased view of us through social media and inaccurate movies (I blame you High School Musical 😡). I think people should stop with the xenophobia and let Americans and other cultures/countries live their lives without discrimination. I don’t get why the UK hates the USA so much.
@@elnaby glad you understand that dumb Americans are the loudest lmao. There is a lot of media surrounding them so i don’t blame you for thinking that lol

Different districts in the us learn different things. The math you were learning was taught to me in 6th or 7th, and some schools learn algebra before entering high school.
yeah we started learning Alg in middle school which started at 7-8th grade for us. But we had placement tests so if you did well you could actually jump right into Alg in 7th grade then move to geometry in 8th and so on and so fourth
This was so cool to watch. I always wanted to see a Brit POV of American schools (some are good some are horrible). Hope you enjoyed your experience… “Those my ninjas now” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As someone who moved to the US from England, and went through high school, this is very accurate lol. Everyday I’d be asked to say something in my accent. Especially “water” lol
Lol from what i remember of my high school days, most of this is accurate, although there are different levels to classes so some people are really far behind and not doing hella complicated stuff where as others are in IB or AP and doing more complicated or college level courses, it really depends on what you're involved in.
british schools are so strict compared to the schools in the us. i go to school in massachusetts and it’s a really well educated school but it’s really lenient. we can wear whatever we want, we’re allowed to have our phones out almost all the time etc. rules really vary from school to school but all the ones i’ve gone to really cut us some slack
British secondary schools are strict. After year 11 which is sophomore year in the USA we have sixth form/college in the UK which is the final two years of education in the UK before university. Depending on where you go it’s less strict. For example if you stay with a mainstream school for sixth form it’s usually still very strict however if you go to an independent btec college or a sixth form college it’s more lenient on attendance and dress code
uniforms are common for brits, yep. normally the policy dies down before university as it does get strict at some points in mainstreams so university is kind of like newly found freedom to dress how you want for most people
Went to public High School in the middle of New Hampshire, US from 2018-2022. Pretty much entirely white, like 75% conservative. You're so right about the girlfriend thing. Hard to get play in my school because everyone met their significant other in 8th grade. Graduated last year, and as far as I'm concerned, they're all still together. Had a German friend who said there weren't popular kids in her school which shocked me. Here, boys lacrosse, basketball, and soccer (football isn't as big of a thing in New England as it is in other parts of the country) and girl's lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball rule the roost. Usually the girl whose dad owns the most successful business, the boy who can jump the highest date, and everyone else wants to be them. There is no "clique" of creative people, except for a ragtag theater group who don't possess any creativity but are loud and have nowhere else to go. Most people just go home after school and play video games. If you get good grades, you go into the medical field, and if you don't, you collect THC carts and find your way into landscaping, flipping burgers, or maybe even the military, which had a pull-up bar and a recruiter in our lunch room. Also, food is god awful. I wish it was less stereotypical.
i love this, especially the cafeteria and pj part We really arent lying when we say the food sucks 😭 the pj part made me laugh bc he sounded so flabbergasted lmfao

I am an American student, I appreciate that you took your time to practice the American accent. And that you went to the USA to see the difference, even if I see this video a year later. Yes, it would take a whole ton of time to get used to our schools. Everyone thinks that we are highly stupid, however not everyone Is like that. Our work is not always this easy, so you must’ve gotten lucky that time. I am a middle schooler, we get harder work than that. I am a person with Social Anxiety, so I’m not into that taking-dating stuff. Again, thank you for going to an American school, finding a majority of differences, and liking them. Also, yes, we are NOT lying about the terrible food in the cafeteria.
Once being an american high school student we had 4 kids expelled in the beginning of one month. Wanna know why? They were taking explicit photos of eachother and doing substances in the bathroom. I think that school was okay cause we also had a kid run from the cops and the school made us keep going on when he had weapons and threatened to attack someone.
10:26 when someone said schools are different depending on what state they’re in, I didn’t believe them, but there ain’t no way these people are learning something in high school that I learned the first year of middle school.
Ok compared to my experiences in an American Highschool (Im currently in Senior year) - The math was stuff I did in 6th grade.... so I dunno whats going on in that school. - Bathroom pass BS isn't a thing - Yeah school food is hit and miss, but I always bring my own lunch so... - On level classes are easy as fuck, they are (for the most part) designed to make sure people pass as long as they just... do the work, however most schools ofc offer AP classes or Advanced level classes; which Is what I have taken in most subjects; so I cant fully speak on the work of on-level courses.
I’ve always wondered what it would be like for an exchange student to come to America. This is pretty interesting, if you came to my school people would ask you so many questions nd shit.
Bro I’m just shocked you were able to mess around in class like that and just age your phone around, at least in my UK school u gotta be sneaky, u get caught and your parents have to go collect your phone from the office after school.
Schools in the US are very subjective, especially which state you live in. In my case, high school is hard and competitive, especially taking AP classes or honers. Even normal classes are hard with weekly tests that average 70% of your grade, daily homework, and in general difficult concepts to learn. I don’t know what you were learning in that school but it was definitely not what I was expecting based on my experience I’ve had so far in high school😂😂 Ap chemistry is definitely the hardest class that I’m currently taking, extremely difficult and fast paced.
Ikr personally there's no time to mess around in any of my classes...9th grade APUSH I barely got a B...and don't get me started on the workload 10th AP Seminar was...
Im a millennial but moved around a bit as a kid. If you show any interest in actually trying in school most have higher level option that will challenge you. On the flip if you slack off all day or genuinely struggle to learn there are a lot of " remedial options" .My guess is that math class was a lower level one.
Looks such a quality time, always wondered what it’d be like over there - something I always wanted to do when I was at school😂 Look forward to going to America one day
7:03 thankfully i hav never experienced this school lunches because i went to a private school where we had an actual chef cook food like pancakes, sloppy joes, pizza etc and then i was home schooled for the rest of my life
Went to a Private American High School. Same exact thing as public school except my parents paid for a worse school. Had to wear a uniform, and the school was more strict with general rules, but you could still easily skip class. I missed probably a combined 100 days all 4 Years There still graduated on time with my class, people ordered Door Dash or Uber Eats to the school. I’d say most private schools are just as bad as public schools and I live in one of the wealthier states in the country.
@@KrisFlicks Yea I disagree tooo. Private school lunches are usually 10x better than public school lunches. My school is not that strict, but you'd probably get suspended for attempting to cheat on a test.
Hell nah I prefer private school way more. My private school has a uniform but you can wear a hoodie or jacket over it in the winter, and they have multiple options for shorts / pants. We have 2 restaurants / fast food places inside the cafeteria ( panda express and dominoes ). We have a smoothie machine, an actual workout gym with like treadmills and benchpresses. Good academics, free after school tutors, MacBooks supplied by the school. It's a really nice and well maintained school which is true with most of the private schools in my area.

Also there are likee 4-5 different school districts in just the county I live in within my state alone, for quite a while my school was super lax with rules up until The Incidents that kept landing us on local news because our principal was older than basically everyone on the Board of Education along with being within the school system longer than any of them were too, outside of the (boarding class teacher)
And Lockdowns, lockdowns drills are wild to me still cause I remember when they first were implemented, I was in middle school.
Sounds like you were very privileged. Most schools aren't like that.
They should give this man an award for surviving prison I mean the American school system

Yeah, the teachers are sociopathic af. They also shut down any fun so quickly. Stupid pricks.
I don’t get why the UK hates the USA so much.

british schools are so strict compared to the schools in the us. i go to school in massachusetts and it’s a really well educated school but it’s really lenient. we can wear whatever we want, we’re allowed to have our phones out almost all the time etc. rules really vary from school to school but all the ones i’ve gone to really cut us some slack

Schools in the US are very subjective, especially which state you live in. In my case, high school is hard and competitive, especially taking AP classes or honers. Even normal classes are hard with weekly tests that average 70% of your grade, daily homework, and in general difficult concepts to learn. I don’t know what you were learning in that school but it was definitely not what I was expecting based on my experience I’ve had so far in high school😂😂
Ap chemistry is definitely the hardest class that I’m currently taking, extremely difficult and fast paced.
Bruh yea I'm taking MYP Chem and AP US History since all 9th graders have to and its not a small workload 😆

Looks such a quality time, always wondered what it’d be like over there - something I always wanted to do when I was at school😂 Look forward to going to America one day

thanks man, i got some more funny videos for you to watch 😂
Idk where they put this kid but put him in all AP core classes. That’s what I was in. My British boyfriend isn’t anywhere near as educated
Funny, the uk is years ahead of the us in terms of education.
Most ppl don’t take APs💀. They’re not required so it don’t make sense to compare core classes with APs which are optional

Gotta disagree. My private school is quite strict and structured. Couldn’t pay me to swap to public.
definitely gotta disagree, the classes and lunches were way better at the private schools i went to over the public
