The name Depp is actually of French origin. Google tells me it comes from a French Huguenot immigrant, Pierre Dieppe, who settled in Virginia around 1700.
Having a french name doesn't automatically mean one speaks french

I guess Brando gave it a go back in the 1970s, Last Tango In Paris...but Bradley Cooper does a very good job of speaking French...he has appeared on French TV and Radio chat shows ...he speaks fluently with a good accent...I think he studied in France for a couple of years ago. There are some impressive clips of him here on youtube speaking perfect French. :-)

He is one of the few actors I've ever seen to do a fairly convincing Irish accent too, I was really impressed.
His Irish accent in Chocolat was excellent as well I thought, and my Irish friends agree! Not that over the top leprechaun Irish accent trap so many Americans actors fall into, they said.😂 I mostly focused on his face and mannerisms. He could have been speaking Greek!
@@sandtats he could have easily been an Irish man, especially in the movie when he said to the main character that he'd be over to get the squeak out of her door 🤣....an Irishman wouldnt have said it better haha.....one of my favourite parts of the movie. You're spot on about the leprechaun accent by the way, I always cringe when I hear that version of an 'Irish' accent 😄

For those who don't know, this girl is Charlotte Gainsbourg. She's the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg (who passed away in 1991), one very famous french musician, and Jane Birkin, a british actress. Vanessa Paradis used to know Mr Gainsbourg himself for singing one his songs "Baby alone in Babylone", for instance, which still remains one of her best memories, both professionnally and friendly speaking. Johnny himself got inspired a lot about Gainsbourg mainly for his style (clothing, growing beard, way of speaking, attitude)...Gainsbourg also had a son before dying, which he named "Lucien" (his real name before naming himself "Serge"), with another woman after Birkin called "Bambou". Lucien has been growing in USA for the most part of his life and Johnny kinda' played an uncle role for him, apparently.
Both Depp and Gainsbourg families always had a long and tight relationship together, as they shared kind a lot of common points in their lives, somehow, which allowed a deep, strong and truthfully sentimental relationship between them for years...and I'm just a big fan of their bonds and their common behaviours in general as much their own separately

The way he says “Chuis” instead of “Je suis” (“I am”) sounds very French. We contract the two words when we speak and it’s a bit colloquial but he does it very naturally.
4yrs of French and I'm ready to throw it all away lol. Seems better to just go where you wish to learn and learn first hand.

French is not a very easy language to learn: we don’t pronounce all the letters, grammar makes you add “s” and “ent” but it has no impact on the pronunciation, conjugation of verbs is a nightmare (3 groups and the last one is just a mix of different rules), lots of rules and even more exceptions, word genders that don’t make much sense (why is “guerre” (war) féminine but “conflit” (conflict) is masculine?). Pronunciation may not be the hardest but since a lot of letters must be ignored, I guess it must be complicated. And French is a rather monotonous language compared to English because there’s no syllable stressing.

@@Io-Io-Io I have 7 origins because my parents and grand parents are all of a different country so i was made to learn all of the languages they speak, then i lived in Asia and the Middle East for a while and had to learn Japanese, Chinese and Arabic, so that makes 9 languages i speak fluently. I do not see what i could be jealous about. To me there is nothing easier than to learn a foreign language. My brain is wired to learn them and it usually takes me a couple of years to speak them well enough to live in the country without assistance.
Anyone who lives in a foreign country for decades and isn't fluent in the language should be ashamed of himself or herself.
