I've been riding Harleys for 20 years now. Two weeks ago a bought a 2015 2nd gen KLR 650 to get back on the dirt. I used to do a little ama racing when I was young. I'm almost 50 and can't wait until this cold weather here in Western Mountain Maryland is over with. I just started watching your videos last week. I hit like on all of them. Dude you do really good work editing and also your videos are getting me through winter! Lol. I live about 20 miles from that privately owned toll bridge you crossed in Oldtown on the MABDR
I go camping with my 21 F 750 GS every chance I get. Now that the hottest summer on record in Texas is behind us. I will be going all over this winter. Just got back from the 1st ever North American BMW Motorrad festival in Alabama . Wow what a trip. My 1st long haul on my bike. Ran Great!! Thanks for the great videos
Yellow Jacket nests in the ground. I’ve uncovered them several times and they are vicious. Great fall riding and another good reason to have daylight when selecting tent sites!
I keep a small piece of copper in my kit. Tape it to the sting, and it helps draw the poison out. They say a penny works, but it did not work for me. Baking soda also works. The idea is to reduce the acidity of the sting.
Some say it's a wives tale, but I personally have used it with good success. I keep a thin piece of copper shims in my tank bag. Like you, sometimes when I get stung it's no big deal. Other times I get pretty sick. The sooner I can get the copper or baking soda on the bite, the better it works. I also forgot to mention Redmond clay works as well. @@MotoMission.
Certain parts of the SE have a small scorpion called the southern devil scorpion. You should check your boots in the morning before riding. Theyre rare, but they'll light you up good if you cross one.
Happy to see that neither one of you had a serious reaction to getting stung! Thats one of the scariest parts of riding, but at the same time, part of the adventure! Even though the weather is changing and getting colder, im still riding. Rain or shine, i commute to work 4 days a week on my bike and each day is an adventure. Working on taking a back roads trip next year!!
I love hearing that. Riding to work each day is an awesome way to actually go to work. Haha. I will encourage that dirt road trip. What bike are you on ?
also some how we missed each other when you were out here in Oregon. i think i rode down to Virginia City Nevada around that same time frame. i offed my 1290 KTM and now have that same year BMW 1250A in red white and blue. i love it.
Dave !!! Yeah man, i missed ya. Life got crazy. You will hear soon enough about that. Good choice on the bmw. I have never ridden the 1290. Which is better do ya think ?
Oh my LAWD! Ground hornets are the worst. My son found a Ground hornet nest in our front yard when mowing the grass and they are relentless. Hey man I could smell the leaves from here in Texas. I was stationed at Ft. Campbell and sure do miss the actual season changes. We don't get that here where everything is mostly green till mid December.
Good stuff my friend. Glad to see you are still able to get some riding in down there. At 60 I've moved on from liter + bikes. You are a master chain jerker BTW. 😂
Anaphylaxis. That’s bad news. I have to have an epi pen, Benadryl, Zantac ( treats the skin from hives) and a steroid Prednisone . If you take the oral meds chances are you won’t need to use the epi pen. I came within seconds of having my breathing stopping completely. That’s a scary thing. Like a fish out of water. Good to always be prepared for this. And yes yellow jackets are the worst. Glad you were ok. Phew!
I own a GS1250 and a Tuareg 660, the difference is easy to see in your speed on the off-road bits. It's the same for me. The GS is a definite all rounder, but it's weight and suspension mean you SLOW down off road compared to the lighter ADV bikes.
Yep. You have to be honest with yourself on those bikes. You can get in trouble real fast and have a hard time recovering. They are heavy. And amazingly agile at the same time
Inreach was close by. I actually was using it to text my wife and keep her informed of where i was and my situation. I have tried a few products now on the helmet. I still get foggy. Lemme think, did i try rainx? I need to double check it.. maybe should do a deep dive on this and find the ultimate solution
Barry had that insulated bag. It was like an ice chest. And the eggs were just in a carton and positioned in a way that they didn’t crush. Barry may have more details. I will take frozen meat w me and it thaws as i ride. Easy for a once nighter
Beautiful Fall foliage. Tough luck on the bee sting but glad you recovered without much drama. I'm thinking of switching from an Aprilia Caponord to a 1150 GS due to the lower CG and shaft drive - for my touring bike. Interested in hearing your thoughts on how it (your test rig) handles moderate tracks.
@MotoMission. Yes, those bikes are comparable in raw weight. The GS boxer motor prevents it from falling all the way over so that's in its favor but 500 pounds is still 500 pounds.
I'm in for a ride if you do one out west! I just signed up for notifications on your website. If you're planning something in Arizona or one of the surrounding states and need some assistance, feel free to reach out.
Ahhh the bmw. I have lots to say. First of all i think it’s an excellent bike. I dont believe it’s as off road friendly as people like to say. Can it go off road? Yes. But if you fall over and you are alone you may never get it picked up. For my style of riding i dont prefer the bmw. However, if i am adventure touring i think it’s an amazing choice.
I was just riding that area and the same bike yesterday. Definitely didn’t camp with the nights being 35f. So many of the small dirt roads in the middle of nowhere are completely covered in leaves and you can tell nobody has gone down them in ages. Pretty nice riding with those street tires.
I live in VT right off section 4...if you make it up this way, it would be awesome to meet up and ride part of it with you. I ride a Tenere 700. @@MotoMission.
4:47 beautiful area at a beautiful time of the year!! The drone shows it off well!!!
Benadryl is now on my list of must carry items!!!
Smart. So many reasons to keep it close

Very cool. That private roll bridge is hilarious. I loved it.
Glad you are watching. I will keep making vids to get you thru the winter. Haha
Lemme know how that klr treats ya
I'm glad you didn't have a worse reaction. It is hard sometimes to make that decision to take action but you did the right thing.
Yeah. I think you are right. Risk management

That sounds amazing. Take me with you. Haha. Texas has some great riding. My fav is big bend np
Yep lots of riders speak highly of trekking out to Big Bend.. I should ride out there and see. Been in a car , not on a bike .
Lemme know if you go

Yeah. I had never had the pleasure of stepping on a yellow jacket nest. We had a blast getting stung. I recommend it to everyone. Haha
Glad that benadryl helped. Getting some for my kit.
Good idea.
Glad you’re okay!!
Survivor !

Ive not hear of that before. I need to look into that. A piece of copper pipe or what ?

For real ?

I just close my eyes and twist it

Haha what a nice guy! “Hey do you have any tent poles?”. That would have got a very different reaction from me if a friend told me that 😂
Haha.. shenanigans
Fun video. I recognized that bridge and river.
Ahhh yeah.. amazing spots around here.

Ahh yeah. They nasty And they are not friendly.
13:31 I hate yellow jackets, mean little guys!!!
They are not my friend

Haha. True

When i see a chain I like to give it a good tug.. keeps life fun.. lets ride
All out of cappucino

wise choice on taking the Benydryl, where was your INREACH?? also did you ever try the "rainx" on your helmet. Cheers Brother.

Having an Epinephrine pen or two might be a good idea since you had the previous reaction.
Yeah. I had one for a while. But it expired. Now i just keep Benadryl close.
I dont see the link to the rides you're hosting. But id be super interested to hear more about it!
Sorry. We hope to have that ready in a couple days. Email me for details.
I’d like to know how you carried eggs and sausage without breaking them (the eggs) and having the sausage go bad. Am tired of oatmeal in the morning
