  • Mannimarco was an infamous Altmeri Necromancer who was responsible for the Planemeld. However, the Planemeld is not all he is known for, as throughout Tamriel's history, he has been the center of numerous problems. This video explores his origins, what lead to his demise, his artifacts, and the impact his existence has made on Tamriel.

    What twenty jerks disliked this video? I know not everyone feels the same, but I rarely dislike videos, but will hit the like button if I enjoyed it. The only way I will dislike is if the content is incorrect or is just plain bad, but videos of this quality take time and are not deserving of a dislike even if you don’t like the lore about Mannimarco, and if that’s the case, what are you doing watching this video anyways?

    In Skyrim those necromancers in that cave trying to resurrect him is terrifying to me. Not because of them, they were easily dispatched. Because it implies that is possible. He still exists already, of course, as the undead deity Necromancer’s Moon, but the fact that they could also restore his earthly form? There’s no way Oblivion was the last we ever hear from him.

    • @AlecEburhard

      That might be fun. Personally I kinda like him as this recurring secondary antagonist that never goes away no matter how many times you “defeat” him or how many primary antagonists rise and fall in between. It is often postulated that the reason Mannimarco continuously returns from the dead is because he has achieved a state of traditional lichdom as far as typical lore for liches in most fantasy settings goes. For example, in DnD and Harry Potter, a lich is created when a wizard binds their soul or part of their soul to an object such as a phylactery or horcrux, and is able to return with a new body should their body be destroyed. The only way to destroy them for good is to destroy their phylactery or phylacteries. Many liches in The Elder Scrolls do not appear to behave in this way, or if they do, it's not represented in game mechanics. It could very well be that all liches are like this, but either in-game limitations don't allow this fact to be expressed, or it simply takes a very long time to reform.
    There are a few notable liches in Tamriel's history for whom we do have some form of insight regarding this. In Morrowind, Barilzar's undeath seems to have some connection to his Mazed Band. In Oblivion, the Hero of Kvatch is contracted by the Brotherhood to kill Celedaen, who is attempting to attain lichdom by trapping his own soul within an hourglass known as the Sands of Resolve. This is a process that apparently takes some time, and you can kill him by simply pickpocketing the Sands of Resolve. His journal says that his phylactery is only vulnerable during the process of becoming a lich, and that he is apparently able to discard it after the process is complete without consequences. Lastly, in Skyrim, you can encounter the Dragon Priest Hevnoraak, who is unique in that you can only kill Hevnoraak after emptying three vessels that contain his original blood in a ritualistic manner, suggesting his blood vessels may have been phylacteries of sorts, and by performing the ritual, you are able to reduce him in a weakened state where he can be permanently killed.
    Overall, the lore seems to suggest that there are multiple pathways to lichdom that give one varying degrees of immortality and even different forms, as the liches of Daggerfall and Morrowind are completely skeletal, liches in Oblivion and Skyrim seem to be more embalmed and still have some flesh, and of course Mannimarco is often depicted as still retaining his original appearance, but with sunken features and pale skin like a vampire. Since Mannimarco has died multiple times, it's my personal headcanon that he obtained a more immortal form of lichdom, and that he will continue to return until his phylactery is found and destroyed.

    • @LordMortanius
      @LordMortanius 4 года назад +4

      To be fair, we've never seen Mannimarco the lich without his cowl. In ESO, he's still technically mortal, in Daggerfall all we see are his eyes, in Oblivion he looks nothing like he was in Daggerfall or any other depictions since then. Even his staff suffered; in Daggerfall and ESO it's an elegant artifact, in Oblivion it's a branch with a skull stuck to it.

      I found about this comment just now so late to the party comment. If lichdom really does work like that in TES then maybe his phylacetry or however you write that could be the very necromancer's moon itself, which would make him unkillable because he can be killed but never permanently

    • @alpacalover0
      @alpacalover0 Год назад

      @@passingrando6457That's one theory of many on it. I personally believe that was a mortal avatar of Moonimarco (the one who became the Revenant) and that the King of Worms is probably off somewhere else, continuing to be his own High Priest. Letting a mere avatar perish would get the Mages Guild off his tail and allow the Order of the Black Worm to continue operating elsewhere. It seems odd that after all that the King of Worms would just drop dead as a mortal Altmer and not turn into a skeleton or pile of ash when slain. It also could've been a powerful willing sacrifice cultist who pretended to be Mannimarco so his death could trick the Mages Guild into letting their guard down.

      as powerful as he is his mortal lich body is still vulnerable, in addition this isn't Mannimarco at the height of his power and followers the worm cult had lost a lot of it's power since the interregnum of the second era by the time of the end of the 3rd era in which the first 4 main games take place he had to skulk about and manipulate from the shadows i assume that last war with Vanus and the mages guild did way more damage to him and to his power base
      think of it like this even the most badass of warriors are useless if you cut off their hands and feet Mannimarco in daggerfall and oblivion was barely a shadow of who he once was

However unlike Mannimarco he doesn't kill without reason and would rule fairly and wouldn't be tyrant as long as all except his sovereign rule.

    After all his deeds, regardless of how evil they may have been, I find very underwhelming Mannimarco met his end in a lousy cave, defeated by your average nameless hero. My headcanon: the Mannimarco in TES IV was just an impostor.

    •  3 года назад

      That wasnt just any average hero, it was the daedric prince of madness, the listener of the dark brotherhood, the archmage of the mages guild, the gray fox, the hero of kvatch, the champion of cyrodill, he also had the colossal black soul gem which contained the soul of arch mage traven. Without this black soul gem mannimarco wouldve turned the hero into a worm thrall shortly after paralyzing him.
