In a certain way, he is Ingmar Bergman's heir in entering the psychology of our fears. But unlike Bergman, he goes a step further and makes his movies into a sociological event. He borders sociology and anthropology; social sciences,, history, psychology all in one art form.
You have no need to compare them. If you don’t think Bergman tackles sociological, anthropological, psychological and historical issues in his films then I don’t know if you are fully grasping his themes. A great work of art it stands the test of the time because it’s about the meta historical issues the human being has. The ones he dreams about (an example can be death, love) since he has this form of consciousness. That’s the similarity I find in Bergman and in Haneke. Talking about one being a step further from the other in art is so reductionist and dull.
It's amazing how it's possible for me to relate with a person that is so much older than me and it's from a totally different culture. That's what Art can do.
Brilliant man, perfectionist. The best Directors open up your mind and feed you bits at a time and leave an unsatisfied hunger. Haneke and Hitchcock have both enriched my life.
Maybe it can change an invidual for a specific time of his life but it will never change the society. After so many years the society is still terrible and no one has learned anything from art.
The best director of the present age.

Haneke is my most favourite film director EVER. He didn't make a single movie that's not worth watching dozens of times.

Same. As a middle class 26 year old living in a third world country under a dictatorship (Burma), I feel the same.
I love this documentary. THANKS!!! One of my top 5 Directors of all time.
Genious. For me,he is the most amazig director ever.
And Isabelle Huppert is amazig too.
I wish he would do more movies with her.

I like the parts where they interview with Binoche, like 7:28-8:00.
And 34:57-.

Great Director.
A director who uses Naked City as soundtrack is the best director of all time;
Btw Le temps du loup, my favorite so far.
Andre Carvalho Really? I have never seen anyone prefer that film over his others, i remember it being kind of a drag as well. Might have to revisit.
Haneke kind a look like Santa with that awesome beard

49:20 " I dont believe work of art changes society or an individual"
i don't understand how can he, as an artist, say that.
Maybe it can change an invidual for a specific time of his life but it will never change the society. After so many years the society is still terrible and no one has learned anything from art.
