Your sax playing inspired me to buy a second hand sax, unfortunately I can't play a note! Never mind, I'll just mime whilst listening to the track for now, must learn how play at some point. Btw, I have two alto saxophones. A truly moving saxophone piece!
One of my favourite pieces of any music, utterly beguiling ,stunning performance, few saxophonists can ever come close to the emotion you put into it,best ever...and then some x
Never in life will a saxophone be played better than this. It is just mindblowingly beautiful many have tried to copy it but they don’t have the soul you gave this
That solo by Wesley, is as near musical perfection as you can get. Balance of longing, rasping and straining notes amplify the emotion. Just wonderful.
Tony Visconti wanted the entire song repeated with me playing in my unique style. It was a combination of pieces I had had in my head for a while and it all came together. wesley
Thousands of very talented Sax players can play this, but not ONE of them in my opinion has ever captured the soul, and the magical feeling you get from Wesley. This is his and only his, its amazing, I could never ever get tired of this stunning work.
A shiver runs down my spine every time i hear this song. The combination of Hazel O'Conner's voice and Wesley Magoogan's Sax is absolutely sublime. Music direct into my soul.
This iconic saxophone piece defined the song for me, although the lyric is nicely done. It's the sort of composition that makes one wish they could play too. A top favorite of mine for decades, and on many mix playlists because I can "Air Sax" with my face screwed up with concentration on my commute (prompting more than one person to ask if I was having a "turn"). Thank you. Thank you muchly and very well done.
When I composed this,I wanted nothing to be repeated as an experiment.Well the experiment appears to have been ok ! Lots of people have their favourite sections which is cool. regards Wesley
In 60 years time when this song is a century old Wesley, people will be watching/listening to this and going "wow what an incredible legacy to leave" (or something like that). Timeless, beautiful & simply will never tire of it.
As someone who got hooked by the smooth tones of the saxophone score, I can safely say that at the age of 59 I’m still hooked, I have 3 saxophones and that’s because of you Wesley , I’m not very good at playing them but I still love the uniqueness of there design engineering and the sounds that can be created, you sir will always be the top gun of sax. Thank you for brilliance ❤❤
Mr Magoogan excuse my bad english. I was a teen boy in a house very cold in winter. I was covering myself with blankets and waited for the radio station. Every night your saxophone in this song was warming up my hurt. I was a poor boy in a poor family. Every night i was listening to this song and i was crying for my life and for my family but every night i also knew that there was hope. You must know that this song kept my soul alive . Now i am 47 and i m crying as i write this comment to you. I have a warm room and i have plenty if food. Thank you from my hurt. A greek man.
The voice of this saxophone conveying deep emotion which we can find hard to express ourselves; so deep. This is what I look for in music - thank you Wesley Magoogan ❣
Hazels voice and Wesleys sax combine to make one of the best songs ever written and played... this is real music, words with meaning and a sound to stir your sole.. utterly brilliant
The best music moment in my 62 years life (and I heard a lot). This song, this vocal and especially this saxophone part are simply divine (the album version is even better).
This is absolutely brilliant and the sax solo is so beautiful that it's terrifying. I'm 52 and loved this when it came out.. mainly for the sax. I loved Hazel too, of course. What a talent Mr. Magoogan. Thank you!
Ah that immortal sax playing by Wesley absolutely brilliant a really haunting end to one of Hazel’s best songs- a masterpiece in saxophone playing-a timeless classic 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
That solo is immortality in the flesh. Long after Wes has gone, this will remain as a point of superlative excellence. I'm privileged to have witnessed it in it's originality.
this is music to die for. hazels voice and those great lyrics and my god wesely on that sax , each time i play this i get i chill in my spine and sometimes a few tears in the eyes. words fail me .it dosnt get any better thank you so so much hazel and wesley
Simply sublime. A master craftsman at work producing a masterpiece. 40 years later, with all of life's experiences and having dabbled musically myself, I appreciate this song and that incredible saxophone more than ever. Others may play it (and play it well) but Wesley owns it. I'd like to see Lisa Simpson have a crack at it though.
In my 50's now and have to say its still the greatest piece ever played on a sax. The amount of debates ive had with people saying Baker street. It doesnt hold a match let alone a candle to this line from Wes. Still sends shivers up my spine today, how one man doesnt play a sax but brings a crafted piece of metal to life like some wizard, and enchants it to sing beautifully, like female soprano singer. God ! If i wrote this let alone could play it i would have a statue built of myself 😁😁. Never will a sax line ever beat this
I’m 56 and still listen to this regularly. I know a lot of sax players and have listened to gazillions of hours of sax music...this is by the far the best. People used to bang on about Baker Street, but your tone and composition are far superior. It’s simply, just a beautiful piece of music played in such a way that it moves you to the very core. It never ceases to make me feel this way, even after all these years. Thank you Mr G! X
Just played this for my 22 year old daughter and she shed a tear or two, she said its a beautiful song and the Sax was sublime. Thanks Wesley for the moment.
Yes, I agree, The Wesley's sax and the final solo especially is the best sax piece I ever heard, brings tears and goose bumps BUT, it is first a perfect response to the so emotional Hazel's lyricks
THE best sax solo (piece and playing) that I have EVER heard, in my opinion. Loved it in 1980 and love it just as much today. Timeless; beautiful; captivating. 40 of my 53 years are so much better for having this song to listen to at various points along the way.Wish I had got the opportunity to hear it live.
Still the best sax solo even after all the years, I always get goosebumps listening to it. So much feeling, Wes i still hope you are still sharing the magic
Wesley; this is part of my soul. I remember the first time I heard it at work. I still love it as much now. I am transported back as soon as I hear it. It's become part of me. Only music can do this and only an artist like you can realise the magic.
Is it really true that I am corresponding with THE Wesley Magoogan ! I generally do a trawl for live "Will you" clips and today - wow ! I am 47 shortly and this song ALONE inspired me to pick the alto Sax up all those years ago. I heard it first on a Ronco "Superhits 1980" audio tape and was hooked from the word go. I have a 1984 62 purple logo to play this remarkable iconic piece. Thank you Wesley so much for inspiring a generation. Keith.
Along with the Baker Street saxophone this is just as magical and I could listen to it for hours. If I was ever able to play that sexy instrument then that’s how I would love to play it.
This song made me pick a sax ,a Yamaha to start ,at 60 years old I felt I had left it to late. What joy you brought into my life,I will never forget you. IV listen to many online and you stand out like the sun in the universe. I couldn't even read a note of music when I started, now IV learnt a new beautiful language many many thanks to you.i wish you the very best. Thank you god bless you.
Never has the Alto sounded better. Pure genius, even beats Baker St. I saw Wesley play this live back when he was still playing and my heart was in my mouth!
I remember my mother playing this a lot when I was a child. The solo was stuck in my head ever since. Now I'm 36 and it's still one of my most favorite pieces of music.
+WESLEY MAGOOGAN This is the most amazing and brilliant example of sax playing I have heard in half a century. Congratulations on your staggering talent and thank you so much for sharing it with us.
This beautiful song has been sending electric shocks up and down my spine for over forty years. Wesley, your sax on this is completely transporting and ethereal ❤️
Heard this at work yesterday walking round the warehouse. Took me straight back to the early 80s. I thought what a wonderful song it is. Sax is so touching.
Thanks Wes (and Hazel, of course). I remember getting goose bumps to this as a youngster. My internet at home has gone all cocked-up and I'm sat in an internet cafe having listened to this for the sixth time tonight. Thanks Wes for making me look like a right pansy ;-) I'm sat here bawling my 'kin eyes out over a BRILLIANT sax solo, and all these "tough guys" are looking at me like I'm some kind of weirdo. Do I care? No. A 48 year old man crying over something..just..perfect. Thank you.
So glad I found this so I can tell the man himself how much I enjoy listening to this, I got the single in 1980 and have never tired of it, its my all time favourite piece of sax. I even started to learn to play in 84 but gave up after a few years after not having enough time to practice. Absolutely brilliant! Kind regards David, Scotland.
Wesley. Forever immortalised with, without doubt, the BEST and most iconic sax solo i have ever heard. What a legacy you and Hazel will leave on this earth for many to marvel at. Still gives me chills hearing this.
I can't stop listening to this. I adore it and surely the sax solo must be the best ever composed and played. Nothing else compares, not even slightly.

Your sax playing inspired me to buy a second hand sax, unfortunately I can't play a note!
Never mind, I'll just mime whilst listening to the track for now, must learn how play at some point.

That was badass playing
@@soulreaver555 I play air sax nearly as well as air guitar. It just needs practice! My air drumming is pretty good too!
