I absolutely love my Mafia 3 was a very fun game but it was tedious not gonna lie Lincoln clay what's a very Interesting character he was an anti hero type
There's one detail you got wrong with the junction box Do you use those inthe area at the take The manager of the area where you don't have to kill but let him work only for you and make Make the racket work more when you give it To your lieutenant
Linkin clay john donovan The marcono family Pastor james Sammy We're all very interesting characters
P s this game actually had a comic called the rise and fall of sal moarcano Which went into his backstory and A prequel story call mafia three plain of jars About lincoln Clay time in vietnam and And Other half Talks about Sammy and ellis What they were doing before lincoln clay came back There are very good readin they're on amazon
I am sad and that my favorite three was tedious and i was good as it should have been cause i had a very good story then i a very well light characters and very interesting Hated characters I hope they don't give up on Lincoln clay

I enjoyed my time with it enough to go for the platinum. But I was only expecting to have to do 2 playthroughs. And then a trophy didn't pop, so I was like "eh, I'm still having fun I wouldn't mind an extra playthrough".
Then I was already only 3 trophies away from the platinum and was committed. So I played the game a total of 7 times completely through before the glitched trophies finally popped. So I'm never gonna play it again I don't think lol. By the end of playthrough 4 it was just like "I'm not giving up here, after spending all this time on it". Playthrough 5 got me one of the final 3 trophies. Then I bought a 12 pack of beer the next day and played through the game twice all the way through for the final two trophies (the don't kill any of the racket bosses, and the spare all of the racket bosses ones). I bet I could speedrun the game at this point.

What's crazy is there are a lot of "mechanics" around Lincoln's race that I didn't even know about. And while that's really cool it does make me wonder if they spent way too much time on that stuff that doesn't really elevate the game instead of focusing on making the world full of interesting things to do.

Something to note: a lot of the gameplay in the video was specifically from a DLC only area, Sinclair Parish. Basically the parts driving through billboards and going over jumps, so those parts don't fully represent the base game's world, as that section of the map is less detailed and realistically designed.

    • @solfaur0

Even if you get the dlcs now for free, still I think Sam is right.
The layout and mechanics and general feel of the area you see in the video is not going to represent this game at all.
It's like reviewing a Fallout game but only showing a DLC map, or reviewing an airplane simulator but only flying the Prorder Bonus Star Wars X-wing that shoots lasers. Like no. It's not very good work from a RUclipsr who I like a lot otherwise. We all make mistakes tho.

That seems weird if you just go from one part of the city to another and it's noticeably different...
Edit: I just got to the part where he opened the map, so I think I understand what you're talking about now. If it makes you feel any better, as someone who hasn't played the game I didn't see Sinclair Parish as looking particularly more interesting than the city part in the beginning. Being able to drive through billboards isn't really a selling point for me, and I don't think it is for most people...
I didn't get the impression that somehow the whole game would be driving through the country side and fighting in junkyards.

@@deschain1910 Sinclair is completely different in it's feel from the main game area for narrative reasons too.
To be frank it's a nice looking place but feels more empty than the base game map.
Also I talk about like how Sinclair was literally built around the idea that you gonna tear that whole part of the map appart with a car. And the police force being the main antagonist there.
New Bordeaux is not a hot wheels track where every cop wants you dead, that's different enough.
Also there are a lot of missions with npc interactions in this game where you stand in front of the npc and have a talk with limited animations before the mission starts. Fair, most games have that for cost saving.
But I think it would've been worth also showing how ridiculously well acted and written the actual cutscenes are in this game.
Overal my point is that it was a good review with a lackluster visual presentation, wich I guess would be the main point of watching a video.

And maybe because the abundance of Blaxploitation films that came out during the 70s that started to show black stories and black politics and black heroes and the black perspective - something we don't get too often as the forefront in a video game (if at all, other than GTASA) - could shed inspiration to make it a better product. Maybe a Blaxploitation game could show the actual reality of being a black person (in the 70s) and how we are exploited in another rags-to-riches story, similar to what Mafia 3 did with its presentation. So yeah, you're just nitpicking at a thought.

I guess because I played it a day or 2 out of the week.
Honestly I couldn't get into Mafia 1, 2. I guess because it felt very copy & paste from alot of other mafia related games / movies that I already seen. Mafia 3 detailed things from a different view and I was able to see how things were for my grandparents / great uncles & aunts during that time period.

But the worst part i'd say is that for a big beautiful world that is, it gets boring after the story ends and you're fed up of hunting. I wanted it to be more of a sandbox, to play with their politics, economy, run for sheriff, mayor, have shops and banks that work, make a farm and grow stuff, be aa hunter for survival or as a trait within the economy not just to make some suits.

Mafia 3 shows that a great story isn’t enough to carry a game by itself. You need good mechanics, gameplay/gunplay, and more in addition to a good story for a game to be considered perfect.
This game nails the atmosphere of the 60’s South perfectly, but having to do the same 3 objective types over and over despite being in totally different parts of the map is what made it a chore to play through.

    Update:
I just finished the game in a little under 40h including the DLC, but not all the side missions or races. The grind really does get heavy and there are some balancing issues. Sometimes you get overrun immediately and sometimes no one seems to notice you.
    Original Post:
I'm currently in that 2nd act grind and it's starting to get quite painful, but what drew me to that game is that it ticks a number of boxes in that genre of open world action adventures that not many other games do, i.e. decent story and a somewhat grounded setting.

I had never played Mafia games ever. And since the remake of the first part dropped, it was on my wishlist. Got it on Ps Plus a couple months back - the first part. And decided to play through the trilogy, and currently am playing III. Must say, that the story is gripping and the open world, honestly, I don't see the bloat people were talking about. Guess it has to do with the way I am choosing my missions or something, because I am also playing the DLC between the main story and 'Faster Baby' really felt high octane series of missions. Although I can see how taking out the 'liason' or the 'henchman' might feel like "here we go again" - esque situation, but as a player who likes playing the game through the eyes of the character, and considering Lincoln is a war vet with an arsenal of skills and sandbox style playing ability of the missions, I put variations in my approach. But overall I am digging the game. The characters are fleshed out, Lincoln has a valid purpose. If anything, it isn't a Mafia game through and through - that is where the problem lies. Because thinking that it is a Mafia game, we think fedoras, trench coats, booze, offers that cannot be refused. But this is more focused on revenge, and just domination. Should have been something called Gangland and not Mafia 3 since it clearly doesn't have the soul of it albeit Vito being there. But even he could have been just another underboss and wouldn't have made a difference to the story (afaik with the progress).

I went back to Mafia II Definitive Edition and installed it again this week, played it the last time a couple of years ago and i am blown away. This game is so good and what makes it good, is the amount of "happenings" around the city. After finishing a mission yesterday, i was driving around, visited a few locations, filled up my ammunition and had a few burgers with coffee and soda. A random guy cut me of in traffic and when i honked at him, he reversed and hit my vehicle screaming something and went off. I chased him, we eventually got out of our cars and started beating each other, then the police came and seperated us. After the cops told us to stop it, they drove off and i managed to follow the guy two blocks, then he got out of his car and went in a dark alley, i followed him and we picked up a fight again, i hit him a few times and he crouched down and signalled me that he had enough. I chose to not hurt him any further and went back to my car. This is a perfect example of an entertaining gameplay besides the missions. The whole situation got me busy for a couple of minutes and i enjoyed it, because it just happened in front of my eyes and could also happen to someone else in this game, in a different situation.

It is good that they give you a glimpse of the 1960s, which is historically accurate. Furthermore, what I really liked about the game were the Mafia 3 DLCs' story missions. Why didn't they create the story mode like this in the first place? What I especially I don't like either, are the physics of Mafia 3 and the little details that Mafia 2 has offered us in the year of 2010 (1945 to 1951 in Empire Bay, which is based on New York, San Francisco, and Chicago), like being able to wash your car in a car wash or fuel up your vehicle at a gas station. Or just add mirror reflections to a 2016 game, especially on the PC, like please, fix it already.

Yo be clear, you absolutely do NOT need to wire tap junction boxes unless you want to do every single activity. Besides, most of the missions/activities revealed by wire tapping junction boxes are smaller activities that don’t cause as much damage to rackets. The larger the icon on the map - the more damage it causes to a racket, thus the quicker you can move on. Plus, all the larger missions/activities are already on the map after speaking with a district contact even if you haven’t wire tapped a single box in the area.
There are even certain activities you can do that cause so much damage so fast that it’s almost trivial. In Tickfaw Harbor for example, there’s a warehouse full of cars and blowing them all up causes enough damage to immediately move on to taking the racket down. So if you focus on the large icon, you can cause enough damage pretty quickly so its less of a grind. But if you wire tap every box and focus on the small icons, it takes forever as you’re only doing a couple thousand dollars worth of damage at a time.
I think that’s one of the reasons the game felt so repetitive is people didn’t realize you can avoid a majority of those smaller icons and just focus on the big stuff. And even if you’re just short of causing enough damage after clearing the large icons, many districts have vehicles driving around you can destroy for a quick $5000 worth of damage to a racket.
Between console and PC, I’ve got 1200 hours into this game so sorry for the Ted Talk. I just always thought this game got more shit than it deserved.

    - graphics (overall are great with some important minuses)
    - inventory system (call for backups, ammo, kickbacks, cut the phone lines, police dispatcher)
    - the city
    - police and witness detection
    - and so many other details
    What I really disliked:
    - the cutscenes are pre rendered and don't match the weather and clothes you are wearing
    - Maybe what I disliked the most: sometimes the storyline becomes hard to follow and is complicated with tons of side characters (English is not my first language, that might be a reason) and sometimes I end up confused about who's who and what am I doing and why?
    - some minor bugs and system crashes (that actually were not so often)
    - repetitiveness of the missions (sometimes can become dull and boring)
    - blurry and washed out colors (even though the graphics were not bad overall)
I think this game would have been so damn good if it was given a little more attention, care and polish.
Overall I'd rate this game 8/10

Mafia 3 has the best story in the franchise in my opinion. It’s documentary elements, it’s characters, it’s setting and music it’s all top notch. I wish however that Lincoln would have been more fleshed out after his complete rise to power, just as Vito and Tommy were. I guess it’s because for Lincoln, he suffered a betrayal that’s far worse than Tommy’s or Vito’s betrayals. In fact unlike them, Lincoln was actually the one who was betrayed. Tommy betrayed Salieri and Vito betrayed Falcone. Also i suppose Lincoln’s empire was far stronger than it is perceived so it’s operations wouldn’t have competition so no story to lengthen I guess. I also wish that it’s open would have been far more interactive.

In the Czech Republic, the game is hated, for a: the original studio that created mafia 1 and 2 did not participate in 3. Another reason may be that the game does not have a Czech dubbing. Yes, it may sound silly, but all other mafia games, including the Definitive Edition, have a Czech dubbing. And it's the only game that isn't Czech. To Americans, this may sound like a really pathetic thing to complain about. But heck, we're Czechs, we deal with this crap too.

@@ted7728 Every mission is absolutely the same. Destroy crates and kill a bunch of enemies to unlock the story progression. Also this is sooooo not gta. There's next to nothing to do outside of the story apart from collecting playboys which is kinda fun. All the other stuff was added after and even then it's super barebones. Don't play this game for the openworld aspect, there's nothing. But, the story is good and the score is good. The gameplay is ok. The game just does nothing to keep you're attention. If it's free, try it. You'll understand what I mean. After 5 hours you won't understand the hate but after 10 15 hours you'll get how this just doesn't have any creativity in its missions. Also for a mafia game there's basically nothing mafia like about it, no like investing or feeling like a true mafia boss. Just small decisions that barely matter.

Mafia 3... Oh god I remember being so excited for this game after being a fan of the second one. I followed it up until release and bought it day one. I was enjoying it so much until that moment sunk in that I had been doing the same thing over and over again without a story mission for a very long time and then I asked myself... "is this the actual game?". I continued playing and the more I played the more it became clear. It really wouldn't have been so bad if it had an interesting narrative heavy mission after every few activities or so that you complete, but that is simply not the case.
I still have every intention of going back and beating it one day, but every time I try to, I just can't bring myself to continue playing... It's such a shame because the world and setting that they created was so inspired, filled with love and care and FULL off potential for a great game, but alas, a great game it didn't become.

Yes it’s repetitive but a great story, when I found out Cassandra commanded the Haitian mob I was shocked same with when giorgi betrayed Lincoln, and the fact it takes place after Vietnam as a black man is the same situation that happened with my grandfather minus the entanglement with the black mob and being shot in the head.

You're exactly right about cutting out that 2nd act. I was absolutely immersed in the story for the first half because I fucking love revenge stories and I was so excited to see this absolute badass get his but then the story content came to a screeching halt and I had to drive gun or weed shipments over and over again for hours. I may force myself through it because I still really do like the story and characters and love how the scenes of people retelling almost feel like a documentary but the gameplay feels like a chore most of the time.

IMO I loved the game, I didn't mind how many side missions it had. Back in the 90's when I played Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve , Syphon Filter, etc Those games would take me weeks / months to finish. Nowadays games that I play I can easily beat within a few days. I beat Mafia 1 Definitive Edition & Mafia 2 within a few days. It took me a month to beat Mafia 3, since I would take breaks in between. I Loved the story, location. It gave me a really insightful vision of what my grandparents went through back in that era. I really wish Ellis & Sammy didn't die so early on the game. I always thought Lincoln looked like Sammy. I enjoyed Mafia 1 too, but after completing the game, it felt very empty. All of the Mafia games feel empty once you complete it. Hell, in M2 you can't explore the city freely after beating it. Every once in a while I'd play Mafia 3 just to explore the French Quarter / Downtown. I love the scenery so much that I want to visit NOLA one day.

The junction boxes don't open up activities all they do is allow you to see enemies through walls when using intel vision and they also reveal collectibles and fuses on the map within the area its just kinda bad design that it takes 3 fuses to wire tap a junction box and on top of that the fuses are scattered all over the map and theyre put in obscure places most of the time forcing you to stop and climb on top of a roof it would've been better if you can buy them at a store since the stores serve no purpose to begin with or if you have to find them in the map at least put them in places that's less obscure
