Sibelius' Concerto may not need added passion over what it possesses of its own, but there is no doubt about the devotion, straightforwardness and sincerity which Sayaka displays in her performance.
Sibelius would be deeply moved watching this young violinist from Japan performing his masterpiece. There can be no bigger accolade for a composer than seeing his work praised by young musicians all over the globe one century after its composition.

Ps… Tons of other very accomplished violinists have done this piece. None, whatsoever, NONE have come close to her performance… NONE. She is the best at this piece hands down at skill, tone, passion and understanding of this piece. Well Done. Very, VERY well done.

In the light of the very many talented performers of today, this performance is indeed (and justified) on the very high end. The sound is incredible, emotion, passion - everything is on the defined place. LSO and the veteran Colin Davis added their quality to this supreme rendition of Jean Sibelius' concerto.

But how did that happen? Don't orchestras these days tune rather meticulously to a standard A = 440Hz?

The slow movement, which starts at 18.15, is particularly ethereal. The incomparable delicacy of the sculpting of the vibrato sections bringing the rapt expressions of the conductor and the soloist are just exquisite; the viola player sitting behind seems to be blinking away tears of disbelief through much of this wonderful movement.

Sibelius's violin concerto performed by Sayaka Shoji is a wonderful performance that makes me feel even the forests, lakes, and air of Northern Europe, In addtion, the London Philharmonic is performing with a sense of rhythm, and is performing with a wonderful performance in harmony with Sayaka Shooji. The one who excels is the cconductor, Colin Davis, who conducts with all sprits so that the performance of Syyaka Shoji can proceed well. Just like seeing his daughter! Many times listen, I'm impressing with the wonderful performance.

There are many interesting episodes of Shoji in Japan.
Her first solo recital was in summer in 1996,at Fuchu, suburb town of Tokyo, where 800audience packed in the hall .
She received Rostropovich's Master class lesson ,4th.Jan.1997. She was a middle school student(Gl) of Kokubunnji ,Tokyo.
She was awarded in a student composition contest ,too.where she claimed the necessity of the efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of her native town Kokubunnji.

In June 1999 (a few months earlier becoming the first Japanese to win Paganini competition) Sayaka took part in Viotti Valsesia Violin and Orchestra International Competition getting the first prize: she performed Sibelius Concerto. The Jury and the whole staff (I worked for) of the contest couldn't believe such a young girl (despite her true age she still looked like a little girl) could play so well.

Curiosity about a 16-year old Paganini winner drew me into this strange world where one is not considered as having had a smashing time unless one has gone through a whole box of Kleenex and has had one's perspective warped!
I have listened transfixed by Shoji through so many masterpieces, almost all of them for the first time, in their entireties. I have also learned that a soloist need not necessarily mean Jimmy Page! The eternal gratitude of a leftover Zeppelin diehard to Shoji for the passport to her planet from which I may never leave.

A fantastic performance! She has a real dramatic flare along with the technical and musical abilities. I see the performance was in 2004. What were the orchestra and conductor?
