    Here is a very quick little video to show you how to remove a sharkbite fitting with the tool or without the tool using an adjustable wrench.
    A different way to remove sharkbite fitting without a special tool. This is helpful when you need to release a sharkbite fitting in tight space where the special tool won't fit. A strong zip tie and consistent pressure as you slide it off can get you of a jam in a tight space.

    Rob, a huge thank you for the crescent wrench tip. The factory release key didn’t work, however the wrench worked first try with zero effort. You saved me a 30 mile round trip to the lumber store to buy replacement fittings to replace the ones I was about to cut off and throw away. All told, an easy $50 tip! Definitely subscribing and a like Thanks.

    At least one dude mentioned this already but ABSOLUTELY give it a few turns before attempting removal. Makes a world of difference. I’ve remove thousands of these. I use the tongs but that orange thing or pinch wrench works in a ounce.

    • @CooleoJankins
      @CooleoJankins Год назад

      So, the tongs work and make it easier? I have a slip coupler that won't slide back to connect with the other pipe. I have pushed so much on that orange tool, but it isn't moving. That plastic orange tool is utterly useless. They should include the tongs for free.

    First, thanks to the poster for getting my head thinking of alternate paths to solve.
    Ok, here is what I did to release it in a small area with short pipe. Think … washer and dryer area.
    * Use the release disk and put it on the pipe as normal.
    * Get needle-nose pliers and gently but firmly clamp the disk. If it deforms in any way its too tight. This will keep the disk pressing on the release when applying a lot of pressure in the next step.
    * Take 2 long flat-head screw drivers beneath the disk and lift hard.
    Mine popped off at that point.

    It's easy when you have a piece of separate pipe not connected to anything, but in any real situation it's far more difficult if not impossible, since you only have 2 hands.

    • @TerryMundy
      @TerryMundy 3 года назад +11

      I agree. This video taught me how Sharkbite fittings come apart. But I face a situation where the coupling is 1/2" away from a floor joist. Not by choice! I can't get any leverage to push the release ring in. Guess I'll keep looking for videos or a release tool similar to a valve spring compressor tool. If none is available maybe it's time to develop my own and market it on etsy.

    • @kickstand1111

      @A Z dunno if this will help in your particular situation but I use these damn near every day in apt maintenance:
      SharkBite 3/4 in. Push-to-Connect Fitting Stainless Steel Disconnect Tong
      Copy and paste that in a Google search.
      Note: you can use some vice grips in conjunction with those tongs to free your hands up in tight/difficult scenarios.
