    Yes, regarding the rather bizarre ‘masking’ of the perfumers, I was in two Le Labo boutiques in the past few months intent on sniffing Anick Menado’s Patchouli 24 to see how current bottles are holding up. In neither boutique did the sales assistant know that Menardo had done Patchouli 24, nor had they seemed to have ever even heard the name. It’s fine, and rather expected, that the average Le Labo customer cares not a wit about nerdy details such as the identity of the perfumer, but the fact that the sales assistants don’t even know? Clearly they are not trained to know. Odd, given the brand’s (rather strained, even silly) ‘hand crafted’ ‘the store-as-laboratory’ story/image. But why am I not surprised…sigh.

      You're right, it really is rather odd, and doesn't tie in with the other aspects of their marketing.

    This might be expensive, but 1 spray from the 1.5ml sample lasted on me for 12 hours, so yeah. I need to search for a bottle right now lol. Also the development is slow but very rewarding.

    I am almost mad at how appealing and intriguing this sounds and I am only catching up on this video now. More than waiting for a year it is about where the price is going to be after a year ;D

      I expect it'll be considerably higher next year.

    I tested it in September and I loved it soooo much! But for me personally I don’t wanted to spend that much money on it, so I decided myrrh & Tonka by Jo Malone do the kind of job I’ve got from 55 :)

    Lovely review. I'd want to try it but it's way too expensive for me! And on the topic of 20 somethings going vintage: that's me 😂❤ I'm not sure it's about wanting to be different in my case, but more about what I can currently afford (as a student) as well as not liking sweet smells. So many vintages are dirt cheap. My favourite is a bottle of Youth-Dew from the nineties that I found at a flea market essentially for free. I also really love Ungaro's Diva.

    • @L-Ondee
      @L-Ondee 11 месяцев назад +2

      Don't worry about it. I personally would prefer Youth Dew and Diva over it.
      Diorling is a very valid alternative for Le Labo Myrrh btw., and in my opinion the better perfume at that.
      Have you smelt Emeraude by Coty? I do mean the spitting cheap current version of it. I think it is in very good shape and still around after about 100 years.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  11 месяцев назад +3

      I would 100% recommend Youth Dew over *most* scents any day. But I hadn’t considered your point. You’re totally right: so many classics (I’m thinking here of Anais Anais, Eden, Loulou, Diva, Paloma Picasso, Obsession) are very affordable, in relative terms.

    7:45 interesting note about the uplifting citrusesque note...could it be kumquat? Durian? Or perhaps a Meyer citron? Thinking of the Shanghai/Far Eastern connection...

      I suppose that's possible. But I wonder if the link with the city is really all that strong.

    I honestly dont mind the Le Labo prices for the regular line, cause they give us quality, and their stuff lasts for a good while. I have a sample of this on the way, only fragrance i wanted to try this year.

    I haven’t smelled it and probably never will. I do own the Ylang Ylang one and a couple of others on the regular line. However, I will most likely never ever buy another new perfume in what is left of my life time as for years I spent quite a lot of money on perfumes and own at least 1,000 bottles, which I will never use up in my lifetime, and my perfume addiction has finally caught up with me money-wise. However, I still enjoy hearing about new releases (although there are too many in my opinion) and especially your take on them. Thank you for this video and all the videos that you have given us through the years.

      @@Persolaise I do treasure most of them. I found quite a few of unopened boxes of perfumes from back in the day when I sometimes bought back-up bottles of some of my favorites. Only a couple had turned and most were still beautiful. The potency and notes in quite a few of them were better than some of the newer ones of today. The prices were still on some of the boxes and were unbelievably affordable, unlike some of the ones of today that are watered down and yet cost more than some of our mortgage payments!

      @@Persolaise I do treasure them and intend to enjoy and use as many as possible. Somehow perfume has now also become a commodity to make people rich even if they could actually care less about perfume.

    I smelled Myrrhe 55 two weeks ago and I was impressed by its vintage vibe as well. Same for Ylang. I enjoyed smelling it but I would never spend such a high amount of money for a perfume like this. I think the price is extremely indecent and ridiculous. As are so many prices of so many brands these days. I had to laugh when I saw that you name "sample" a 100ml bottle. Especially knowing that Le Labo samples are less than 1ml. ;-)

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, sorry. I use the word ‘sample’ with my journalist hat on, to try to make it clear that the bottle was provided by the brand. Force of habit it.
      I’m glad you agree about the vintage vibe. And thanks for watching.

  • @cheapimitation2242

    I loved the opening but found the dry down really dull and borderline off putting. Maybe it’s that vintage aspect I’m not too keen on. Good call on Ylang being in the same ballpark, a better and cheaper alternative IMO available year round!

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  11 месяцев назад +1

      The drydown does become quite woody-resinous, and quite different from Ylang's.
      Thanks for watching.
