    I'm pretty new here I've watches a couple of your videos that pop up now and then so today I subscribed to your channel. It amazes me the amount of work involved to live off grid, I'd like to be of grid but at my age there are a few creature comforts I'm just not willing to give up, like my microwave, and being able to order grocery's on line and have them delivered within 2 hrs. I'm in a rural setting 4 miles outside of my smallish town but I'm not always feeling up to getting dressed in approach non holy non stained clothes to go to the market, so being in my garden when grocery arrive affords me the comfort of being in my everyday grubbies without anyone thinking anything about my apparence! It's normal to be grubby when working in the garden lol. Much love from So.Cal.💟

      Thanks, yet I need a back up of some kind either solar or wind driven or both but I'm poor so I watch to see how other people tackle these problems. Between the heat (up to 115 July and August), and the cold in winter (down to 19° January and February), I have breaking pipes, no air but I do have a swamp cooler that doesn't do me any good when the power co. Shuts off the grid several times a month, and winter my propane heater has ducting in the roof that critters ate thru while the home was unoccupied be for I got it. So the heat blows only into the attic area that not insulated so I stopped using it. I now use a heated throw and a space heater. Doesn't really do the job but bumps my electric up by $90.00 a month. So I need options. So if you don't mind I'll keep watching for any useful tips I can get. 💟

    The leach field is so cool. I love people’s different solutions for gray water. Ours is a little strange, but I will show it sometime. Those sea lions are hilarious. A few years ago we were down in Astoria where there’s an area full of hundreds of sea lions. When they’re all together like that they can be pretty gross though; tooting, burping, biting each other, etc. I’m not lying, one of them actually hocked a loogie (spelling?) right in front of us, like spit it as high as it could go. It didn’t care, haha.
    Anyway as always, your place looks great even though you all are in the construction phase. Kinda behind on some videos, so I’m going to go back and watch your last week’s video tonight. Look forward to next week and all the progress!

    Hey Brian and Diana!! I'm planning my next trip up for August & September. This time I'm going to take the ferry if everything works right. If that happens I'll get into Juneau on August 10th at 7:00AM... and I can't tell from the schedule if we'll be in port for 5 hours or 20... either way... if y'all happen to be in town that day I'd like to buy you breakfast and chat for a while. You're one of my favorite RUclips channels!! and we do have a lot of common themes... Army Veterans, lived in TX (I am so tired of this damned heat and humidity right now!!), and love Alaska as well as both have RUclips channels. My other option with the ferry would be a 10 day layover in Juneau!!! but I think that's a bit much... Anyway, as things progress I'll keep you posted. Maybe we can meet up and say HI.

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  3 года назад +1

      That would be great. Keep me updated on the trip especially when it comes closer to the time you’ll be in town. If you’re headed to Haines of Skagway to drive the rest of your trip the layover probably isn’t very long. Normally they get all the cars off and take off again. You’ll have a better idea when you get on the ferry. Ask the Purser what they layover time is when you get underway. They should know.

      There was on usgs.org a spot to look up earthquake fault lines but they changed that website and usgs.org volcano but they changed that site to trying to go all to Facebook but I don't think that worked out. If you look up volcanoes and earthquake currently happening discovery site you might be able to find the fault lines. You would be surprised how many of them are around there and the detections they run. Like I said if the quake has something to do with the Chattem straight Lynn canel fault line you can feel it. Up in anchorage eagle river area you feel a earthquake one or 2 times a day smaller quakes. Well enjoy the rainy day up there it's probably already rained over a inch here since about 3 a.m.

    Sounded like a eagle doing it's sounds when you let the chickens out.
    Sealoins out on green can watch out even throwing a rock at those things. Paintball gun or rubber bullets just don't get caught. Where's the orcas/killer whales when you need them. They said 54 for a high and 39 for a low and rain up there. Supposed to thunder all week down here. Most of growing soil up there is just rotting plants and old trees on top of the bed rock. All the fault lines that go through Southeast they should be lucky that the faults aren't moving around up there. A little red king crab scare

      It’s funny to watch everything run for cover when the orcas come through. 😂
      The reef that bouy is marking is Sandy and the sea lions jump out of the water. We can see a bunch of little black dots and the orcas circle around it.
      Yeah we still haven’t warmed up that much. Good for me, bad for the garden. Things are starting to pop up though.
      Oh I’m glad we don’t get a lot of earthquakes here. That would be bad.

    Put some rebar or some metal. Something easy to find with a metal detector. Better would be wire and use a locator. Wish in one hand 💩 in the other

    Your pipes will freeze in winter and then it will break the pipes.

      Thanks Frank. We’ve never had our tank above ground freeze and bust. Our frost line is 2 foot. We buried the pipes below that. I think we will be safe.

      @@AnAlaskaHomestead I forgot: We in Germaniens use litle rocks or stones or sand around and under such a pipe because normal "motherland earth" soil has much water and water becomes ice. Sand stones cant keep the water and thats way it more safe to use it or you souround the pipe with "Rohrisolierung" pipe insulation like from armafelx.
