SCR system fault almost every week on my company Volvo. Gives me first warning 60 minute countdown till light derate then second 240 minute for major derate. Our in house mechanic will always tell me to tighten battery terminals and reset computer to clear it. I start first by removing key from ignition, turn off power supply using battery cutoff switch, remove battery cover, tighten all battery terminals, and wait 10-15 minutes for computer reset. Resupply power, key in ignition turn 1 click and let truck fully cycle before starting engine. Most of the time it would clear, other times i would have to drive for 5-10 minutes (highway) before it clears. Could be a bad NOX sensor but our mechanic keeps insisting it is a bad connection to battery and common in Volvos. Oh well...
I just had this in a 2023 Peterbilt the other day and was left with a 60 minute duration until derate. “SCR System Altered or Fault”. Turns out it was a 10amp fuse blown at J5. Haven’t had that issue after hundreds more miles of driving.
Sergei. Just went through the same thing with my 2500 Ram. Had the same warning except it give you just 240 kms to get it fixed. I had half tank of DEF but topped it up and warning disappeared. Three weeks later. So far so good. And to top it off, it is a new truck.
when I have time, I"ll ask the Kenworth shop to check the level sensor inside the DEF tank ... or maybe I just got bad DEF. There's a lot of that stuff going around ...
Good 4 you. I am glad to see that you pulled out your man card and took it upon yourself to tackle the problem and fix it
And not throw up your hands and pay somebody to do it 💪💪. Keep on trucking Marshall
Glad that you were able to figure out the problem and it was only low on the DEF...Have a safe trip, Sergei !!
If you can’t delete them, emissions systems should be warranted for life.
you get caught disabling them now.....you get parked.
I had a 2014 frieghtliner and the def dispenser chalked up after the truck sat up for a while. Then the one box clogged up on it and that cost me $13,000 dollars. Sold that truck at a lost and went with a glider pete 389. If you do heavy haul the dpf filter clogs up faster with all the heavy loads. Check and see if you have a leak in the def tank.
Funnel is the word you were trying to think of !
You should have received a notice from Cummins, but there is a big recall on a lot of Cummins after treatment systems. I think it was on older trucks than yours but it wouldn’t hurt to check.
That’s what Marshals do...stick with the problem until it is solved and then follow up ASAP. Good job Sir. Hope all goes well.
I was a brutal 90F here today. I had to wrestle my 24' tagalong trailer off my hitch and liked to died from heat exhaustion.
Those rubber insulators under the fuel tank straps suck. Other truck brands have same problem. Between the weather, washing and spilled fuel makes them look like they have frills.
Same thing happened to me on a rental. I think the computer and the gauge have different DEF sensors and one is crap. The gauge read full but the computer threatens to de-rate. I poured in a jug of DEF (none at the pump) and the error went off. Four hours later the error came back, so I pulled into a truck stop and was not able to squeeze in a single dollar of DEF before it overflowed... But the error went off again. Unfortunately I don't know the resolution because it was a rental so they dealt with it and I got another truck.
Good job Sergei your awesome. Research paid off hopefully.
Hope that de-rate stays off. I've had that happen several times. I hate after-treatment systems ☹
My choice would be get loaded and then get the truck fixed. Kenworth or Cummins could fix it. By what you said about the DEF level dropping fast...the DEF "doser" has failed.
"From rawze.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=2434
This is shop talk by cummins:
This fault detects a mechanical malfunction of the DEF dosing valve, or a pin-to-pin short in the DEF dosing valve circuit.
Reference the appropriate OEM wiring diagram when troubleshooting circuits that utilize wiring supplied by the OEM.
For intermittent power supply and data link communication issues with aftertreatment components, it is highly recommended that the OEM Power Distribution Center fuses and relays be thoroughly checked for loose, missing, or intermittent connections.
Contamination of the DEF can be a possible cause for this fault code
Id be leaning towards the doser valve is the main issue. Now that its not working your nox level it out of wack. It talks about checking relays and fuses they should be on the fire wall."
Had similar on ISX in a 2010 Pete...truck never used much DEF, then all of a sudden it used a lot..."doser" failed.
DEF tank has a filter to trap crystallized urea from plugging doser and burn injector.
Don't feel bad. My tractor wouldn't start. So they sent the road service guy over. I had him remove the batteries and the master switch. Charge the batteries overnight. One was bad, so 1 new battery and the master switch. It cost my $856.
Sergei, consider that you may have a restriction (crystallized DEF or dirt) in the line, or where it feeds the line, that goes from the DEF tank to the doser in the SCR. It could explain why your gauge didn't move for a long period and then moved more than normal in a short period. Sometimes the DEF can crystalize in the line. It could be a sensor, but if it was a sensor wouldn't it stay on? I'm just going by what you said. You said that sometimes the DEF gauge lowers at a steady rate and other times it goes quicker or slower... that sounds like a restriction or a partial restriction, not a sensor. If it is a restriction, adding the DEF like you did might have been enough to de-crystallize what was causing the restriction or if it was a restriction in the tank where the line connects it might have been enough to move whatever it was that was causing the blockage... if that's what it is. Anyway, I'm not trying to quarterback, just trying to give a troubleshooting tip.
all bad messages went away when I added 25 Liters of fresh DEF at a brand new truck stop, using their virgin DEF pumps ...
@@HHTV60 That's good. I would still keep the possibility of dirt or something in the DEF tank in the back of my mind in case it happens again. Good luck with the load. I don't know where you get the patience to deal with permits and waiting like you do. I don't think I could do HH, but I do enjoy your videos.
Sergei Dratchev there’s a screen in the bottom of the def tank that gets clogged up.
Maybe the last time you filled DEF you actually got water.
But I have been involved in a project where the DEF level sensor with the quality sensor is one of the major headaches. And it's sensitive to leaning of the tank and some vibration patterns. So if you have a specific combination of vibrations like a certain speed with a certain load it gets confused.
also turn ur batteries off for couple of hrs and c what that does first it might reset it
Delete or get ready for the dealer bs of replacing sensor until they find the problem
I really hope you just have a simple gauge problem or no problem at all. Maybe your DEF gauge wires just need cleaning.
Even with one manufacturer, the different engines available will usually have different sensors and he can't carry all the sensors for all the motors for this one type of problem. Not realistic. Depending on the computer needed for checking systems, that is probably an expensive piece of equipment, again for just one type of service problem.
So the new joke is, "Are you DEF?" (I hope this takes care of it, but I would get it checked out)
Wow. All that dead time, you finally get a load booked and the truck lets you down.
i guess Im pretty randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to watch newly released movies online ?
@Kristopher Gunnar i use FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)
I had this exact same initial yellow "scr altered" message. Popped up while i was driving. I stopped and shut off the truck to get breakfast for 10 minutes. Started driving again, the message was still there for 15 minutes then just went away. 30 minutes later, the red "sky is falling" messages started popping up, Reduced power, SCR fault. 10 minutes later, limp home mode, maximum derate, repair SCR system. 2020 T680 Paccar Mx13. Had to get towed to a shop. I'll find out in the morning what the problem is.
Please share what was the issue?
@@BlessednFreeIt was the dpf doser valve. Took the MHC Kenworth mechanic THREE DAYS to figure it out.
Very surprised that adding DEF actually cleared it... but that light will likely come back... time will tell
drove 3 hours 255 km this morning and still NO FAULTS. I'm thinking again it'll happen when the DEF tank level drops to 50% or less. But live and learn, yeah? Thanks for watching!
You need to have your exhaust after treatment system serviced.
Curiosity does your KW tell you how full your DPF is? My Volvo calls it a soot level gauge. Made me do a Regan the other day
Live to load another day!
Sir Sergei !!! YUPPER !!! GO for the Dock & DON"T be late !!! As you say ""THAT'S TRUCKING & MURPHY'S LAW-- WHAT CAN GO WRONG-WILL GO WRONG "" !!! Enjoyed the video & Waiting for MORE ""TEAM # 305 ADVENTURE""!!!! ""KEEP IT SAFE """ !!! ""DEF"" IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT !!!
please dont idle your truck man .I have a volvo with D13 and it dont like to idle too.get u good generrator with portable ac dont waste money on expencive APU.
Have you ever changed your DPF filter Just like you're fuel filter You need to get those changed that's what was wrong with my truck safe travel sir
too early -- i only have 200,000 km or 120,000 mi on the odometer.
There is a little filter that goals next to or in back of your DPF fuel tank there is a filter for the fuel tank for your DPF system That needs to be changed. It's similar to your fuel filterFor your actual diesel filter filter.
They never change those when you get an oil change you have to actually ask for it.
Check your Facebook Messenger I will send you a picture of it give me 3 minutes
DEF filter dirty
Sounds like possibly the def gauge was right you're were out, did the gauge return too full or reflect what you put in?
yes, it showed FULL after i filled it up.
Sleep easy Marshall Sergie. No warnings = means you're clear! Get your load and drive safe!
Good evening from Texas be safe out there my friend god bless you and your family
Good news is always good to hear. That's why I like to stick to my trucks older than 2000 models no emissions crap and no E logs! I can rebuild everything on my older trucks cheaper than I can buy a new one for and I will have a more reliable truck, not to mention it's cheaper to maintain and I get better mileage. It can cost up to $15,000 just to replace the emissions equipment a truck and I can rebuild the 3406E Caterpillar engine cheaper than that!
Cool movie Sergei 🍿👍
Col sergei hope the topping up with def fix works cheap and easy fix fingers crossed
Trials and Tribulation of a truck driver. Hope you get fixed soon. ✔✔✔👌👌👌
You are a lucky man buy a lottery ticket asapAlways entertaining video I smile now and wish you continued good luck!
Слушал, слушал так внимательно и тут на минуте 30:49 слово по русски "ВОРОНКА"))).
да, постоянно забываю как это называется по-английски! FUNNEL!!!!
So did the problem come back after you added DEF? I am having same exact issue now with my x15 t680. When you added and went on a trip did you have to fix the sending unit or any sensors? Or adding DEF solved all the issues?? Thanks

Could of dropped trailer, go off duty personal convenience, wont mess up ur break...goodluck
We have very good friends in Halifax 😁
Your DEF consumption is worrying though.
Expect gremlins soon..
Good for you on the fix ..
But you should never fill DEF tank more than 3/4 of an inch below the filler neck .. The tank needs air to breathe .
Hogwash
ADD DEF then proceed
My def is full . It just happened after I added def . But it’s going good so far !! I’m still driving! Any advise ?
👍👍
Well sorry to hear on def filter probably need forced regin and glad to hear got this load be safe
Dame gauges def
hi was at your truck last night. you were not around. live in Moncton and would like to meet you when you come back thew I have been flowing you on the Chanel for a long time.
