KK Menon and his wife, Nivedita Bhattacharya have done an impeccable job in this show. The drooping, psychological shrinkage of an ex-cop, Qadri has been conveyed beautifully by KK Menon and Nivedita Bhattacharya, in the scene following the last rites of Saadiq has to be one of the best breakdown scenes ever. Kritika Kamra didn't convince me that much and nor did Avinash Tiwary. Although, Saurabh Sachdeva was the best man to play Haji Mastaan ("Maqbool" in the show), in terms of looks. Nawab Shah has never been known for his acting and plus, the use of verbal abuse is too much, it gets tiring. Ganiya Surve's character is shit, to be honest. It lacks the intensity. Malik's character does look lost. Aditya Raval as Chhota Rajan ("Babban" in the show) has done a fabulous job. Amyra Dastur is not an actor and that's pretty evident. All in all, if you're enjoy watching cinema - you can go, watch it. It's raw and intense, especially the rape scene and the events that follow are something you've only seen in Paatal Lok before. 3.5⭐
If they make a show/movie about a terrorist they get applauded on the other hand if someone makes a movie/show about victims of terrorism it will be rewarded as propoganda. 🎉👏
When I saw that you are going yo review this show, I binge watched it last night. I agree with you the cast and the direction is at par, although I could significantly feel the green screen visual separately in most of the scenes,it was amazing to watch Mumbai of that era and how they managed to pull that off on screen with even giving details to blend of characters in the neighbourhood to support the main cast depicting their relationships in the most raw form. Infsct, the relation of Haji and Ismail, Haji and Dara was such a borderline walk, they pulled it off really well. I agree on the grey thing, I did feel at many instances something very nasty is going to happen. It is a slow burn for sure, but the way characters have been developed poori tasalli se that later in the story when they evolve, the viewer is not left with any question as how why etc. Jab Dara ne Pari ko chhodha, we knew the tables have turned. It was hard hitting always look up to your review Shan. I like your work. Regards 🎉
Last night? Really? Because the series was released just today, I believe. Although one thing that I'd like to add is "the grains." Throughout the series, I noticed grains in the backdrop of certain scenes, which looked really good. I remember that airport scene where they first show us the (seemingly) real footage of "Bombay" (the airport's outside), and after the cut, we see the characters walking out of the airport. I liked how they transitioned from that scene. The palette choice after the cut worked as a bridge to combine both scenes. And both scenes had "grains." One more shot that I remember, when after Dara rejects Pari and the scene shifts to Dara and Habiba being on their terrace discussing avenging their brother's death, that sideways shot looked beautiful. And yeah, it was grainy, too. Thank you, bye.
Also, in the final scene of the last episode, when they showcase Habiba taking the authority as soon as Dara leaves, I felt like glimpse of Haseena Parker, haven't seen that movie. Might be related. The way Habiba sits, adjusts dupatta, the fearlessness in the eye, etc reminded me of that look.

The rape scene was horrifying. It actually jarred me literally. It wasn't portrayed on screen literally but the way it comes on screen haunted me from top to bottom

I finished watching it just yesterday, and it was mind blowing. Throughout the series, I realized, "oh, this is actually who dawood was," And the towards the end of the series the way the guy playing dawood, avinash tiwary, pulls a demeanor is when I went finally, "oh, this Is dawood". This series does not fantasise his infamy or glorify dawood's mystery.. It rather helped unfold the curiosity surrounding dawood and yet leaves a dark mysterious figure at the end. Unexpectedly mind blowing. Loved it..
And Bal thackeray is Hindu hriday samrat for almost every Hindu, mind you he himself shamelessly and arrogantly said that "riots mein mera hath nahi pav tha" the same riots which killed innocent people for political milage form him, dawood is still not hero for an average muslim.

This is definitely a good show but one can hardly miss the romanticisation and glorification of Dawood and co. by the makers. The makers have intentionally changed the narrative of some characters like Manya Surve in the name of creative liberties. While establishing the heroic stature of Dawood, makers have relegated Manya Surve, who was a very sharp student and shrewd, to a psychopath. Glamourisation of terrorists and members of a particular religion have always had a special place in Bollywood’s heart. Even in 2023, nothing has changed. We are still presenting them as HERO! Alas!!
The purpose of such web series from daudwood(ie. Ghanta romanticize nahi karta mobster life ko. Zaidi's book was slightly pro muslim (it might just be perspective) , but he never condoned activities of these scum. This series straight up hypes Dawood and Haji Mastaan. Pathan (based I think on Kareem Lala) exists just to be a stupid and evil foe to Ibrahim. Ganya Surve (based on Manya Surve) is shown to be a inhuman monster killing women and children in the first shot he is in. But vengeance is shown in golden light and the Dara character is shown as its poster child. Zaidi's books and his articles show a Dawood Ibrahim that is coward, a drunkard, incapable of any physical feats of strength, which these kind of series conviently glance over.

I finished watching it just yesterday, and it was mind blowing. Throughout the series, I realized, "oh, this is actually who dawood was," And the towards the end of the series the way the guy playing dawood, avinash tiwary, pulls a demeanor is when I went finally, "oh, this Is dawood". This series does not fantasise his infamy or glorify dawood's mystery.. It rather helped unfold the curiosity surrounding dawood and yet leaves a dark mysterious figure at the end. Unexpectedly mind blowing. Loved it..

This is definitely a good show but one can hardly miss the romanticisation and glorification of Dawood and co. by the makers. The makers have intentionally changed the narrative of some characters like Manya Surve in the name of creative liberties. While establishing the heroic stature of Dawood, makers have relegated Manya Surve, who was a very sharp student and shrewd, to a psychopath.
Glamourisation of terrorists and members of a particular religion have always had a special place in Bollywood’s heart. Even in 2023, nothing has changed. We are still presenting them as HERO! Alas!!

Nivedita Jee, cinematography aur colour palette ke baare mein jaisi main soch rakhta hoon vaisi hi tum bhi. Par ek baat se main disagree karta hoon, ki show ne Dawood ko romanticize nahi kiya. Mujhe aisa lagta hain ki baaki filmon aur series ki tarha (jo inn muddon par bani hain) ye series bhi dawood ko romanticise karti hain. Aur mujhe yakeen nahi ho raha ki tumne Chhota Babban par baat nahi kari. Sabse Savage tha series main💯🔥. Aur Ganya Surve??? Mujhe sabse zyada mismatch Ganya ki casting lagi (real life ke Manya ke features aur attire ko dhyan mein rakhe to).

Ghanta romanticize nahi karta mobster life ko. Zaidi's book was slightly pro muslim (it might just be perspective) , but he never condoned activities of these scum. This series straight up hypes Dawood and Haji Mastaan. Pathan (based I think on Kareem Lala) exists just to be a stupid and evil foe to Ibrahim. Ganya Surve (based on Manya Surve) is shown to be a inhuman monster killing women and children in the first shot he is in. But vengeance is shown in golden light and the Dara character is shown as its poster child.
Zaidi's books and his articles show a Dawood Ibrahim that is coward, a drunkard, incapable of any physical feats of strength, which these kind of series conviently glance over.
