As a foreigner working here, I don't get the hate towards ITE. If its a pathway that can lead to better futures for people despite their circumstances, who are we to judge them? This mindset that ITE is the end needs to stop. Singaporeans needs to realise that everyone's circumstances are different. Not all of us are in middle class or grew up with a silver spoon. To progress to have productive citizens from all sorts of background, we shouldn't be looking down on ITE and what prospects it can bring to a person's livelihood.
You're not even a singaporean, and yet you can understand. This speaks volumes.

In fact there is a future in ITE. It depends on how you pursue your career. I'm an ex ITE student and currently studying my Masters in NIE. It's not in the end man.
It isn't that ITE is bad but the wages of those jobs directly linked to the skills are lower because there's no minimum wage.
The cheapen effect of service and technical sector in Singapore is what caused this stigma.
lol everyone who is not dead , whether they studied in ITE or elsewhere, obviously has a future. It is how we use our education that counts, our values also shape our lives. Plus, learning is a never-ending process, as long as we keep honing our skills and gaining new/more knowledge, we will always be better than we were before.
When I was 16 and found out I had to go to ITE I was devastated, of course because of the stigma. But if you’d told me then that I’d still be able to achieve the things I want to do like getting a degree. I wouldn’t have believed you. ITE isn’t all rainbows and sunshines at all, but it doesn’t mean Its The End, ITE is a stepping stone to your future and more people need to understand that.
This video is in collaboration with ITE so of course it will be 100% positive about ITE. Not saying its good or bad but no institution is perfect, even NUS/NTU or Harvard. And it's important to show both sides if the goal is to enlighten the viewers, if not this vid is just a long advertisement that does not reflect unfiltered reality.

But it's also not fair to judge a school just because of some old saying that "It's The End". It's good that ITE is actively trying to end the stigmatisation by giving REAL experiences from ex-ITE students.
Well they did mention how ite is perceived (negatively) by the general public... 🤔

I think it's so lame that people still assume ITE students are gone cases lol it's just a longer route but it doesn't mean they're incapable of being just as good as kids who go directly to poly after secondary.
I am in wsdip in ite . Let's be honest the image of ITE has been ruined by majority of students who think they own the place and acting rowdy thinking it is cool. There are a small percentage of student who actually are extremely impressive ( Example: A student who got a Master in Ethical Hacking. ) but it gets over shadowed by slashing, murdering and just the overall image.

Couldn't agree more. I went from ITE to NTU and that took me 11 (13 if you count NS) years to complete.

I can’t even get to ITE coz my math was F9 in O’level. Now I’m working as a VP in an international bank. Mid 30s. It really doesn’t matter where you go.

I m from ITE too, I graduated in 2008 in interactive design! I agreed to a lot of that is said in the video!
When I was in sec sch I also felt helpless, like no matter how much I studied, I was just not good at it. Of course, my family was disappointed in me, because they wanted me to go poly.
I graduated from ITE, n went to poly after that, I was really glad I was given this chance. I m still working in the design industry now :D, doing well.
Every now n then when I mentioned that I was from ITE, I m proud of it, because the skill I learned has been helping me up till now, almost like a backbone of the things I do now. Poly's skills did help but not as much ITE's.
last time people used to think ITE is it's the end. no, it is not, It is the start!
Realistically and being pragmatic. ITE is definitely undesired as part of our education choice. But we should not discount anyone's effort as many students from ITE goes on to local universities. (Some direct Poly and JC students struggle to).
However, I highly doubt that anyone aimed to go ITE over Poly/JC. Painting an over beautiful and unrealistic image of ITE is not very helpful. While ITE allows for students to be assessed in a different yardstick as the general consensus is that there is more hands-on practice in ITE which many might find more affinity with.
But some truths are undeniable. ITE students generally are either less intelligent or were disinterested in their studies. For both reasons, one can't fault them, but it is society's failure to judge negatively on academically weaker students.
We fail as a society when we place the utmost importance on academics rather than character.
Branding ITE in such a beautiful light is quite revolting and regressive in nature, can't we just acknowledge that there are weaker students and promote respect for them regardless? Do we have to create an illusionary image and put ITE equally with all other education paths? There should be no shame in being a weaker student.
Such advertisement is likened to lip service such as "Every school is a good school". Promoting a neighbourhood school as "good" as names like Hwa Chong and Raffles. Do you really think anyone gonna buy it?
Point is so what they are weaker students academically? so what they take more time? Did they commit a crime? Are their character bad? Why do you have to make ITE seems like a very desirable choice instead and cheapen ITE students effort.
Its so true about the lecturers part. They are the only ones that i have contacted till now. Not the pri sch and sec sch teachers who are so judgemental and only cares about their job and love smarter students. ITE days are the best time for my educational part as compared to my pri n sec sch. And it lays your foundation for u, to help u be your best for the nxt phase of yr education. Its has more warmth. They really help and know you. To be honest, i really dislike ITE prior to going thr because of all the things people say around me like u are dead, its the end, u r useless and ITE is not good. But when i went into ITE and graduated i was more happy like hey im not so stupid afterall!! I just didnt find my niche back then. My foundation is stronger for my poly education and more!!
I mean i do envy people who are good with their hands, even though i went to jc, i fail my driving test😪
And now even got ITE grads who get into NUS Medicine, so ITE is not the end!
My happiest education period was actually during ITE. Lucky I am from ITE.

no matter what or where, the qualities needed to succeed remain the same: humility, integrity, and a never-ending drive to improve oneself :D
In our country, the idea of ending up in ITE or Poly depending on your fate in high school is equivalent to settling your child on taking short 2 year degree courses or taking up skill vocational courses in training centers; which is very rare to get 1 year training, most of the time skills program lasts just less than 6 months.

My uncle went to such school (in Malaysia). He now running own manufacturing plant in KL. Everyone should not be judge by paper at all! Education is failing!
It's so destructive to claim that there is no future due to the circumstances you've been put in. There's always a future, so long as you're alive. You just need to make that decision now, to make things better. Or it can wait. But there will be a future.
Just for discussion... I was also a graduate from ITE. Do you guys think there shouldn’t be a difference in salary between ITE and Poly certificates holders?
there should be a difference. poly is smarter than ite therefore poly should earn more. vv simple
ITE only matter if you are going to places that is not going to judge you for consistency. no late bloomer or hardworking points at those place. You must score at the top 15% wherever you go. Even in 2023, HK top talent pass does not recognize your masters even if its from harvard, they only look at your bachelor degree and it must be in the top 100 in the world to qualify. The rationale is one of early consistency. Humanity is far from equilitarian, exception rather than the norm is always for cases that is otherwise. Always aim to go to a place where the barrier of entry is extremely high and you always be overpaid and underwork. join a place where they take in anybody and you are in for a grind with no guarantee. So better do well!
Like simpler pupils from ite, like the guy in video. Not just as playful overestimated poly pupils. They went ite, they could have stopped, who says they go ite because nowhere to go
I always tell myself it doesn't matter what is your academic background, most important of all is how much can you earn when you enter the society. As long as you are capable, even without a single piece cert, you can still hire tons of degree and PHD holder to work for you.
