As promised, here is your guide to using training mode in Tekken 8 effectively! We don't go over every single feature cause otherwise we'd be here all day, but I did want to highlight several options you have available to help maximize your time in the lab, things like the remember feature are worth their weight in gold, so make sure you use it! Give a watch, like if ya liked it, and lemme know what you think!
The most stupid thing about the training mode is that you can't pick a move from a list and have the dummy block everything after it hits. God, that's so dumb.
As someone just getting into fighting games this past year (sf6 and now tkn) your guides have been immensely helpful in making these games easier to learn and more fun to play
This iteration of Tekken is OUTSTANDING 🙆🤯 Everything this game has to offer is absolutely exceptional. But then to have created and implemented such a groundbreaking training mode with such ingenious intuitive features, truly lifts this game above ALL other fighting games out there. LONG LIVE TEKKEN 💪👊
Tekken was one of the 1st games I ever had the joy of loving as a kid on the PS1. I was born in 1990, so was lucky enough to play all of the originals. I quite literally grew up on Tekken, and I am so happy to say - It Feels Like I Am Home Again 😊❤️👊💪
Thanks Roofle ill use this tonight i need practice. Went on a 15 win streak in ranked through warrior but then lost 7 in a row last night , competition is getting harder i need to get stronger!!
This is my first Tekken game and I am so blown away as to how many options/features they have in the game. All of the training things that this video showed like being able to choose which moves the opponent does, combo training, punish training, AI training. All of that in addition to the replay stuff like taking over a character mid-replay and showing recommended combos. It's amazing how many things they were able to put into this game. It makes me feel like I actually have a shot at getting half-decent at the game, lol
Thank you for making these beginner guides for Tekken. These videos are seriously helping me. I started with Strive as my first fighting game and move to SF6. I still regularly play SF6 but I bought Tekken after seeing loads of videos online about it. After watching your 'How to choose your Main Character' video I settled on Jack-8 because he was fundamental bases with no crazy gimmicks so I could focus on just learning the game(I LOVE him, a perfect mix of goofy and badass with some sweet tools). I go online and proceed to get my ASS beat. This game is so hard, but these videos are helping and learning makes winning so satisfying.
For anyone else wondering: if youre on PC with a fightstick and want to use the remember function, to save your state, use your keyboard "N" key. Worked for me.
Thanks for all that content you're producing for the launch of Tekken 8. Precious time saver as well as enjoyable videos! Tekken 8 is an incredibly complex game and your videos have been a valuable help.
Alright that's basically the last core main "general" guide. I might have something a bit more fun for you next, especially cause there was no Ed trailer today like I hoped lol. After that, maybe some character guides? Im thinking the "starter guide" format for most, so 20-40 mins long instead of the hour long monstrosities, although I reserve the right to do like a 3 hour bear guide.
I will watch whatever you put out, no matter the length 🙏 Worst case scenario, I'm learning matchups. Make whatever you want, and the people will come for it. You're the *authority* on Tekken guides for me and my friend group. Thank you for everything you do, and the countless hours you put in researching, scripting, capturing footage, and editing that goes into each and every video. You are the man. Out of curiosity, who are your favorite character(s) in Tekken 8? I'd assume Kuma and Panda from this comment lol.
@@gloominaati3105 My defense is also horrible lol. That movement video he made helped a little, but I'm bad at defending in any fighting game that I play lol

Pretty much going to create throw tech drills tonight after work. Even though I am actually breaking throws on reaction slowly but surely, I still need to spend a good 20-30 minutes only doing that. Btw, It's insane how fast you absorb all this knowledge. It feels like a full time job just learning one character.
Man, I love this game's training mode! My defense against lows and throws needs work, so I'm trying to utilize the Defense and Punish training, but I should also remember to use the Remember feature to save me some time on very specific setups. :o
Roofle again brother thank you 🙏🏾 I had no idea how to properly use the “remember” feature in training. That helps a lot nice ! Thank you always man 🤘🏾
Just came back to playing tekken after not playing several iterations of it! Been watching a lot of your videos to catch up on what I need to focus on. Thanks!! Now just to try and figure out who I want to main as.
I will lab combos for hours and then never pull them off in a game, it’s so frustrating. It’s like I have a completely different brain in an actual match. I really hope I can get over that…
Just stick to it. Playing against the cpu could help improve your in-fight execution. Don't get overly discouraged. Fighting games take time to learn. And it isn't exactly a race to "git gud". Best of luck.
@@Ronin8300 thanks! I know logically it will take time, but still it really feels awful to get trashed over and over again. I’m gonna stick it out though!
These videos are incredible! Not sure what you have planned in the future, but would it be possible to make a video that's showing you learning a new character? I feel like that's the one thing that's always impressed me is watching how fast seasoned FGC folks like yourself (Sajam, Brian F, etc.) seem to pick up a character so quickly. I know a large component of that is just time playing fighting games so not something just anyone can replicate but I think it'd be useful for new-ish folks like myself. Thank you again!

I am not really on the "entertainment" train like many others are, so I dont know how to make something like that watchable lol. But yeah for fast learning the simple answer you got it right, its time. The more you do it, the more you get comfortable at it
Dude, you just earned a subscriber. Amazing content. Please do a Nina tutorial. I mained her more than 20 years ago (Tekken 4 I think it was), and I want to main her again.
As a life long Tekken fan, I've never really tried to get good at the game other than be competitive with my friends. I'm trying to push through the frustration of lacking knowledge for once and some things have gotten way better (grab breaks, low parry) but match up data is such a struggle
I went into training mode for Leroy for like 20 minutes. Went into a match right after and I completely forgot everything. Fighting games aren’t my forte
This is very normal. One “trick” is to learn one new move and use that in a match. Even if you lose, it’s a win that you used the move in a match. Then back to training mode, add one more move to your arsenal, and repeat. I hope that helps!
I would love to see a video about how to learn a new character with training mode, or at least your approach towards doing so. I'm still new to fighting games and I'll go into training with a character I am not familiar with and just feel like... well what do I do? So I'll mess around with buttons to see how it feels, but I almost always just end the training session feeling like I learned nothing. It could be that I'm just not understanding how to use the character because I'm trying to play it like a character I do know (which are only a few from Tekken 7). So yeah, something like that.
I find combo trials are kinda the best way to take a look at a character, from their if you think their combos look cool you go a bit deeper into your moveset but only barely. Sajam put out a great video about advice for new Tekken players(from a new Tekken player) I think it's called and he kinda says what you want to kind of find in your moveset before you go into games.
Knowing what is and isn't real is a great value add. I find myself getting counter-punched all the time, so I would love a video on picking what to use from various neutral positions. I'm going for quick moves often enough, but still getting beaten to the punch in a quite literal way. It's puzzling and leads to frustration, so I'd love to know if there's a way to train in whatever element I'm missing.
If you're using highs a lot try using more quick mid checks to stop your opponent for me this helped a lot when people were seemingly hitting me out of fast moves
If you could add any quality of life changes what would they be? Mine would be a frame slider when taking pictures from animations, I hate having to watch the whole thing if I miss my picture
One thing that confuses me in tekken 8’s training mode is the damage…in the column on the left it tells me total damage and max combo damage, once I start doing a combo it shows up two more indications of damage, I don’t know what the four of them mean. I’m used to mortal kombat a 1 indication of telling me how much damage I’m doing lol
What is the setting they had from tekken 7 that your character would flash blue indicating that you were unable to perform another action because of the moves. I can’t seem to find it here on Tekken 8
I need all the help I can get. Are the moves they present for punishment training ideal in any way? I don't always feel like the sample combos are things you'd wanna do in a real match so I want to make sure I won't be wasting too much time.
@@Rooflemonger Thanks coach. I'll go back into training mode and make some notes about what it recommends and see if I can't get anything further than the basic combos it wants from those moves.
Any tips for just remembering combos to execute in the right situation. I’ve been playing fighting games since I was little. Not religiously; I play other games a lot as well mostly because my friends don’t play fighting games but I always go back to them. It doesn’t take me long to figure out how to execute combos. The thing is it’s like I’m overthinking once I play someone that’s near or above my level. I have all these combos I know how to do but once I get down to it I have to think about them and by the time I get it out it’s too late. Any tips on getting my muscle memory in shape.
Really impressive video guide 👏🏻 I dont have Tekken 8 but i might buy it now as the practice options look excellent. One thing id like to know is does practice mode have an option to run you through the characters move list one at a time automatically without having to open move list and view the next move?
Kinda random question but I play Tekken 8 on an arcade stick and I don’t know how to reset training mode with it. Is there a way? Also I use a hori fight stick alpha if that matters at all
you do need a touchpad, so its by default X(which should be 3) and touchpad. If you have an older stick without a touchpad though, or a button that functions as one... you are kinda SoL
as a newbie, do whatever is fun for you, don't stress "getting good" cause its not a race. You and a few million other people are in the same boat right now lol. Play around and see what you want out of a character, theen go through them seeing who has the cleanest fit for you
Most of the time, it's one of the newer characters introduced in the game. In this game, Victor or Azucena. Not Reina though. She's sorta legacy, making her kinda hard for a rookie
its different for everyone, but my answer everytime is Asuka, Claudio, and Jack. Of the 3 jack would be the "hardest" but he's also incredibly straightforward. Don't gotta worry about stances(except jack, but he has the easiest to manage stance in the game), just your gameplan
The thing that bothers me about this training vs SF6 training is I don't know how much damage a combo does. Total damage doesn't seem like a valuable stat to me (I'm trash at fighters so maybe I don't know any better) and I feel like I don't fully understand the damage values. SF6 was very easy to understand even as a noob that never really looked into this stuff. Tekken doesn't seem to give me a great idea of how much damage my whole string did or how much health people even have. Still enjoying it a lot!
Dude this is groundbreaking for me. Tekken 8 is the best for training noobs like me but stilll need more to explain. They should add a video hub in the game that lets you watch stuff like this all within the game menu.
There is a way to watch EVERY combo/move/etc. When you are in training mode all you have to do is scroll over the combo you want to see or practice and it will show multiple options. One being to watch a playback of the move being done, with ALL button prompts displayed on screen in real time as it occurs. Once you start practicing you can literally playback the training video with a press of a button, no need to open the menu again 👍👍 This iteration of Tekken is OUTSTANDING. Everything this game has to offer is absolutely exceptional. But then to have created and implemented such a groundbreaking training mode with such ingenious intuitive features, truly lifts this game above ALL other fighting games out there. Period. LONG LIVE TEKKEN 💪👊
@@lordaizen8004 I 100% agree and the tools aee amazing. My reason for wanting videos like this to be implemented in the game is to understand why these tools are useful and how to make the most out of them. @@bananasean5145 hell ya friend I'm super happy to hear it!! Welcome to Tekken!! I was born in 1990 and literally grew up playing Tekken, MK and SF. Hand down, Tekken is KING and ALWAYS has been. Just me and my friend locked in the training room for HOURS. That's so cool you got a fight pad too!! After seeing the leverless one he has in the video, I am SOO anxious to get one too. 2+3 to L1
And 1+4 to L2
Make yours whatever's comfortable
@@xRhychux okay, I like that, what do you use for heat or rage?
@@Zbeast5972 2+3 with no directional input is heat so it's L1
Rage I don't map because rage art is universally df1+2
@@xRhychux interesting, good to know! Thanks for the tips
@@Zbeast5972 happy to help!
Can you make a video making a teir list of characters hardness.... ik a lot of youtubers have made this video but I wanna see your take on it
I don't agree with a lot of what the common opinion is and honestly I don't wanna deal with the fights it will bring
@@Rooflemonger fair enough
Can you please, please, please make a full beginner guide for Reina next? ❤
character guides will be coming soon
Thank you 🎉 @@Rooflemonger
The thing that bothers me about this training vs SF6 training is I don't know how much damage a combo does. Total damage doesn't seem like a valuable stat to me (I'm trash at fighters so maybe I don't know any better) and I feel like I don't fully understand the damage values. SF6 was very easy to understand even as a noob that never really looked into this stuff. Tekken doesn't seem to give me a great idea of how much damage my whole string did or how much health people even have. Still enjoying it a lot!
the combo counter that appears on screen shows the combo damage
Wow ❤❤
Dude this is groundbreaking for me. Tekken 8 is the best for training noobs like me but stilll need more to explain. They should add a video hub in the game that lets you watch stuff like this all within the game menu.
There is a way to watch EVERY combo/move/etc. When you are in training mode all you have to do is scroll over the combo you want to see or practice and it will show multiple options. One being to watch a playback of the move being done, with ALL button prompts displayed on screen in real time as it occurs. Once you start practicing you can literally playback the training video with a press of a button, no need to open the menu again 👍👍
This iteration of Tekken is OUTSTANDING.
This is where i feel Tekken can improve is not in adding more tools per say but by breaking down more information. Arcade Quest was a brilliant toe dip into the water and wish it went even deeper into the mechanics. Either way Im just happy this game is popping off like this and I bought my first fight pad yesterday!
@@bananasean5145 hell ya friend I'm super happy to hear it!! Welcome to Tekken!! I was born in 1990 and literally grew up playing Tekken, MK and SF. Hand down, Tekken is KING and ALWAYS has been. This latest release simply edges them ever further from the competition. I remember as a kid trying to figure out the combos, there was NO wiki or anything of the sort. Lol. Just me and my friend locked in the training room for HOURS.
That's so cool you got a fight pad too!! After seeing the leverless one he has in the video, I am SOO anxious to get one too. I normally wouldn't have even considered it, but I find i play Tekken with my right hand hovering over the buttons of my controller anyway, and use my index and middle finger instead of gripping the controller and using my thumb.
Im on PS5, Idk if there is a co-op training mode, but even if not, I am down to jump into some matches and do some training and practice if you ever need a "dance partner" 😜💪👍👊
Nice Nina costume
You sound just like Sam Reich from dropiut
In the next patch Asuka is gonna get a Glock that instantly kills the opponent. That will put her in A tier. Y’all ain’t ready.
New to Tekken Almost won my first match. Lost because I couldn’t hit him when he was grounded 😂. I hate Bryan and King.
brother why u sound like jordan peterson
Have you even slept since Tekken 8?
A few hours
Rooflemonger,
Please is you’d like us to get better at Tekken 8 we need you to use all your strengths, all your powers to appeal to Bandai to allow infinite rematches in quick match. There are 32 characters in this game and long sets are locked behind an SF5 clone room system.
Please, there are many of us who enjoy the practice of long sets. Help Us.
Sincerely,
Distressed Player
I'm pretty sure Bandai namco hates me so I don't think that's happening lol
Omg, this is just like the MK 1 training mode... not! *Borat voice*
Thanks so much! Love the training mode but been a long time since I’ve played Tekken 🥋🫡✍️
Thank you so much for this guide 🩷
