- Dandelion flowers are rich in flavonoids and polyphenols known for their use in skin healing, pain relieving, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor properties. Dandelion’s are a rich source of vitamins A, B complex, C, and D, as well as minerals such as iron, potassium, and zinc.
Begin by harvesting bright, healthy flower’s around noon on a bright day, making sure to avoid chemically-treated areas. I pick them in my back yard so I can trust they are safe. Dandelion flower infused oil makes this salve good for: sore muscles, achy & arthritic joints, rough or chapped skin. To make dandelion salve, you will need to make an infused oil first.
Instruction for Dandelion Infused Oil
Let dandelion flowers air dry for a few days then infuse in the oil you like. Or dehydrate at under 104F for a day. Add dandelion at least an equal amount with oil (or much as you can in the oil)
• For a quick infusion with coconut oil: Set the uncovered jar down into a small saucepan filled with water (double boiler method using a strainer), bring to boil then lower the heat burner for a few hours, keeping a close eye that the water doesn’t evaporate out. Remove from heat, let it cool down until warm enough to handle with your hand, then strain.
• For a slower, more traditional infusion: Suggested oils include sunflower, olive, avocado, and hemp. Cap the jar of dried dandelion flowers and oil and let it sit in a cabinet for 4 to 6 weeks, shaking occasionally. When the infusing time has passed, strain.
Dandelion Healing Salve
Ingredients:
• 1 Cup dandelion-infused oil
• 1 oz beeswax (grated or pellets)
• Essential oils (optional) lavender, tea tree ….
Instructions:
1. Add the oil and beeswax into a heat proof container.
2. Set it gently into a pot with water (just like we used when we infused our dandelion oil.)
3. Gently bring the temperature up to medium-lowish heat until the wax is melted (takes about an hour).
4. Remove from heat, then let it cool in the pot for about 5 minutes before adding some essential oils if you like. How much to add depends on how strong of the smell you want. Carefully pour into small jars, then let sit until firm.

Update to how long this can last in the fridge? today I found one that I made last 3 years it still good🙃
Dandelion is amazing for so many things. Added to my list for this summer project.
Lovely! I’m going to give it a go next spring and maybe mix it with plantain.
Thank You very much for that vid it was done very well and I enjoyed it very much taught really well GREAR JOB.
I pick dandelion flowers in my back yard after raining for a week, so I can trust they are safe and clean. No need to wash them after picking but if you pick them during dry weather and not sure if they still have some dust, should wash them first.
Instead of beeswax use cocoa butter, this will solidify into bars.
Then it would be a bar not a salve
I like the salve better. To each their own , eh?
I use cocoa butter and beeswax. Sometimes I'll add shea butter as well just to make it more nourishing. Such a great product to have on hand.
Looks amazing dear! ❤️
Great video. Which essential oil did you use?
Do essential oils add to the healing properties in the finished product?
Great vid. Loved the ease of it.
I did notice some questions answered but some are not.
Hi, I'm just wondering how you clean the container with the wax and oil?
Incorrect - heating above 97 degrees will cause a reduction in potency. Additionally, dandelions do not need to be dried first as you will loose the potency as well. Wait an hour then put in jar with a carrier oil
Just subscribed, this was great showing it step by step and without all the yapping!
Thanks you😀
What essential oil did u add?
Thankyou for the video✝️🙏👍
What essential oil did u use ?
Can you add purple deadnettle as well
Yes, any medicinal plant that benefit's your skin and grow's easily in your backyard. I'm waiting for my red clover to bloom and will add it with my dandelion this season.😀
@@TazPantry what is purple deadnettle? And what other weeds have natural pain or healing qualities? (Just a quick few that are common) tks
destiny coach Plenty of vids on RUclips about that already. You’ll want Wild Lettuce the most.
Would this be a good diaper rash ointment?
Can I use soy wax?
What do you use it for?
Can I put them in the oven on 175 to dry them a bit faster?
Drying herbs, and keeping their flavor and medicine intact, is a bit tricky. Herbs need to be dried as quickly as possible with low heat under 104 degrees F. is perfect. Ovens and microwaves destroy the medicinal and nutritional components of plants. The lowest setting on an oven is typically 170 degrees F., which is much too high a heat for drying plants.😀😀
Why wipe the spatula with paper towel and then put it back into the oil. Seems pointless really. 🤷♀️
Can I replace the coconut oil with olive oil?
Yes, Suggested oils include sunflower, olive, avocado, and hemp, any oils that benefit your needs.
Olive oil shouldn't be heated
Is beeswax necessary or can I just use coconut oil with the flower liquid?
You can use this with just coconut oil. I make pain salve with soaking dandelion in just liquid almond oil
Try dandelion pesto
Yes, it’s delicious
@@MTknitter22 in the spring when the chickweed comes up I like to make chickweed and dandelion pesto. In the summer when the purslane comes up I like to make dandy-lion purslane pesto
Love it. The music is annoying, 😂 but overall, great idea!
It’s funny - I was just thinking that it was a catchy tune and I found I was doing a little dance here in my kitchen as I prepare a salad, and think about going outside in the fresh air and sunshine when it warms up and walk around my few acres to pick the best and brightest dandelions. To each his own, eh?
Do you know how long this salve will last without spoiling (rancid) ?
After finished making, take one out in the cabinet ready to use at room temperature. Keep the rest in the fridge good for one year.
@@TazPantry Perfect! Thank you...
That was great! Thanks!
