  • An analysis of Albert Camus' The Plague. Enjoy:)!
"Everybody knows that pestilences have a way of recurring in the world; yet somehow we find it hard to believe in ones that crash down on our heads from a blue sky. There have been as many plagues as wars in history; yet always plagues and wars take people equally by surprise."
    Albert Camus, The Plague

    Very interesting, thank you.
I re-read "La Peste" at the beginning of COVID.
Exactly 3 years on, with almost 7 million dead worldwide and with conspiracy theorists who even as they died, refused to believe they were dying of COVID, I will read it again.
Your analysis is well thought through.
    Thank you!

Great video! I would very much love it if you did one about Dostoevsky's Notes From Underground. Thanks for all the videos you have made. They are awesome!

Very good. As soon as the hysteria over cv-19 exploded in early March, l remembered La Peste and am re reading it. The events of the past week is, l feel, an extension of compounding fear and frustration..an inability to solve or discourse morphing into violence, common decency a veneer..the human condition still bleak

Existentialist Dasein Not really, it is merely a stark reminder of humans at their worst..civil behaviour a veneer. Still, after each storm, the calm ..hopefully. Best wishes.

A question about 11:05, wouldn't an existentialist point of view be in favor of the calamity being your responsibility?
I'm thinking along the lines of Sartre's proclamation that your own birth is in some ways your responsibility. Your line of argument seems more aburdist/Camusian with an emphasis on the limits of humans with respect to knowledge, freedom, and responsibility.

      Hi, M.
Yeah, they think that it's wonderful being a parent. If you tell them the truth, that Simone applies to men... kids don't accept well.
Boys are still learning that being a dad sucks. This is why you need some bar mates. You need to complain about the brats too.

I think the WW2 interpretation is too limited in scope and so on the nose to the point of being disrespectful to Camus' body of work. We must look at the bigger picture, and, In my most humble opinion, Camus would've liked for us to do that as well. The quote from Camus' journals is incomplete. He says "... I want at the same time to extend that interpretation to the notion of existence in general." And I think there's far more suffering there than there was in one war.
Great video nonetheless, I enjoyed every minute.

Dads need friendships. Bar friendships. Yes, kids. You are not really as delightful as you may think to your parents.
    Sorry.
