Happy Labor day to all you you going back to school! After every 4 episodes we take time off to research and prep for the next 4 HOWEVER Why not upload "Progress report vlogs while you wait? Here's our first episdoe if "REASEARCHING"! Enjoy
I just want to say, your Ecuador video saved me. We needed to research for a school project & your video was exactly the sort of summarized & well done video we needed. Thanks & keep it up! :)
It's true that in Spanish the "j" is pronounced diferent than in most of the languages, but Jordi is a Catalan name, and in Catalan the "j" is pronounced the same way as in English.
This was actually a really good video that my homeschooled son and I just finished watching together. I was able to pause it multiple times to discuss research methods and how you put together your show. Love behind the scenes videos. Thanks!
HOLY FUCK! I'M THE KARL GUY ON TOP OF HIS EMAIL!!! XD XD XD I didn't actually know that you were the one replying to me Barby!!!! XD XD XD OMFG I'M SOOOOO HAPPYYYYYY
Hey Barby, when you talked about Equatorial Guinea Football it reminded me that Equatorial Guinea was one of the Co Hosts for African Cup of Nations back in 2012 ;)
You should watch Palm Trees in the Snow (Spanish: Palmeras en la nieve), which is a 2015 Spanish romantic drama film directed by Fernando González Molina. The screenplay is based on the novel of the same name, Palmeras en la nieve, by Luz Gabás. It portraits the Spanish colonialism in EQ.Guinea.
This guy is so funny and smart..Love his vids. Wish I had a geo teacher like this guy. I loved the video about my country (Colombia). It'd be a good idea to have subtitles in different languages so the videos might be used in class. This could be a colaborative project.
Hey Barby if you wait a while this channel called Geography Now will post a video ALL about this country. In fact, its their next video to be posted unless theres like an update. So just wait a while, and youll be good:)))
I live in Madrid, Spain. I remember once meeting and old guy from Equatorial Guinea, ethnically native from there (aka not European origin). He commented that, even though he was in favor of independence back in the day, he misses the time of being part of Spain, because they were citizens like other spaniards, with rights they severly lack today... also, I know you have no time, but book and film 'Palmeras en la nieve' is great for getting a good idea about relationship between Spain and Equatorial Guinea
Hi Barby ! Jordi is a catalan name, the catalan version of George, in spanish Jorge. It's pronounced like the french "j" or the slavic ž (zh). But i don't know how they should pronounce it in Equatorial Guinea, as sometimes those sounds suffers changes on it's process of expansion. Anyway, i could send you some info about Catalonia, which i guess you will mention when the spanish episode comes out : D
I think their 'diversifying the economy' project is known as "Horizonte 2020" which you can probably also look up on youtube and online, and I wrote a blog on the emergence of EG for "The Autarkist" that you can probably google and use. Also, there are many Guineans in Spain and possibly the most famous person of Guinean ancestry on Earth is the Afro-Spanish diva Concha Buika. She's the Anita Baker of Spain: jazzy and soulful, yet with a flamenco flavor. ALSO Spanish rap is very popular among EG youth, there are vids on youtube with competitions and cultural events related to rap. This is their way of expressing themselves
Do you know Equatorial Guinea was the Spanish portion (Spanish Guinea) of the region in West Africa initially known as Guinea? There were also other Guineas named after the occupying colonial powers such as French Guinea which became Guinea and Portuguese Guinea which became Guinea-Bissau. Papua New Guinea was a combination of "Papua" and "New Guinea", the names given by the locals and colonists respectively. The colonists named the place New Guinea because they found that the people there resemble the Africans in the Guinea region.
You should watch the movie Palm trees in the snow, it gives an accurate historical view of Equatorial Guiana. It may be a romantic movie but it gives a lot of information about the history and culture of Equatorial Guiana and how Spain influenced it.
Finland hasn't banned homework, it's just that we have very little homework in elementary school and then it ramps up later on to pretty much, but not too much.
Btw youtube has a function that can speed up videos(click on the cog). Usually words are comprehensible at 1.25x-1.5x speed and can be understood with some practice and getting used to at 2x speed.
In google maps there is a heap of freeway construction going on both on the island and the mainland. That could be interesting to check out! Good luck!
Barbs, what's up? Love your show. Can't get enough of it. I wish there were more content based videos like this on youtube instead of fails and cat videos.
One thing I think I remember of Equatorial Guinea, is that it is a country with extreme wealth differences - with on the one hand the highest average GDP per capita of all of Africa and on the other hand a large part of the population not having access to fresh drinking water. On Wikipedia I see it is the 20th country of the world in GDP per capita, but #121 out of 177 on the UN Human Development Index.
As far as i know there is at least a small portion of the population in Equatorial Guinea speaking Portuguese, maybe because of some influence of his neighbor country Guinea Bissau. I mean, that portion have's to be something cause they were accepted as a menber of the CPLP the community of the official portuguese speaking countries.
I'd love to help you out once we get to the Philippines episode, and maybe my sister as well. But I can't even imagine whatever the hell would happen here within the next couple of years.
I can help you with the geography part when it comes to Tanzania. I keep a lot of animals from Tanzania and have done a lot of research on their habitats
The woman soccer team of Equatorial Guinea played at the world championship against Norway in my hometown Augsburg and I was there, I still have a scarf I bought in 2011 at that match
I hope you'll also talk about Eric the Eel in the episode. Fascinating guy, was an Olympic swimmer for Equatorial Guinea! Also I'll totally message you once you're closer to Germany. You'll get so many from here correspondences, Barby xD
Barby, Jordi is a really popular Catalan name, not a Spanish one (you pronounce it really well btw!). Lots of Catalan people went to Cuba and Equatorial Guinea to do business leaving Catalan names and surenames there. Love your videos man, keep them comming!
Barby You will find a lot, lot of information if you serch with the original (spanish) country name "Guinea ecuatorial" like a interview with his "president", or a good view of the capital city in the vídeo of " Madrileños por el mundo". Good lock. I'm from Peru, 27 years all, and can confirm that no ones here knows that there is a country speaking our same language in África. Sorry for my bad english
Nice video Barby and I love your researches, good luck with your job. If you understand Spanish enough ('cus I think you do, but now how much) you could find more information about Equatorial Guinee.
Hey man I can dig the internal look. Don't down on it so much. In my own field your supposed to document everything you do from start to finish. The process is as important as the product.
Hello, although I dont know much about Equatorial Guinea, one interesting fact is that the country joinned de CPLP( comundade de paises de lingua portuguesa) A Portuguese speaking organization....stange...
i cant wait for the episode...you made the factbook sounds so fun....now im reading up on EG myself.... and now the government it watching me watch them :P
~ Cool!!! Cant wait for the EQUATORIAL GUINEA video. Oddly enough, as a Latino I happen to know a few useless things about this region that came to spark my interest due to 2 things. 1- The Spanish singer CONCHA BUIKA, whose parents are from this country. & 2- Because of a Spanish Film I saw a couple of months ago titled *PALMERAS EN LA NIEVE. Which was freaggin' amazing and dove in to the history of this place at the beginning of the 20th century. Side note: The film takes place in BIOKO island. But yeah, pretty interesting place & I am looking forward to the official Geography Now upload.
SantomPh The term "Guinea" is a lot older than the 18th century though. Its etymology may have something to do with black people but for the Europeans (including the Portuguese), it was a geographical term. The region in South America is Guyana which sounds similar but has nothing to do with Guinea. (And when the Europeans arrived, there were no black people living there anyway.)
Paul Geography Now is a great series but I seriously hope these research videos don't become a thing since that just takes the anticipation away from the real videos plus one more thing to worry about.
I love geography now but this time you messed up Paul, Finland didn't ban homework in any way that I have noticed. I have lived in Finland for the most of my life and Homework has always been around. :)
Happy Labor day to all you you going back to school! After every 4 episodes we take time off to research and prep for the next 4 HOWEVER Why not upload "Progress report vlogs while you wait? Here's our first episdoe if "REASEARCHING"! Enjoy

There are people who have escaped North Korea plus people from the west can actually vist North Korea.
no, but they do have one in London, if he is willing to pay the international call fee
By the time he gets to North Korea it won't exist
But didn't the person who ran that embassy defect a few weeks ago along with his family?

Yaaaaa for denmark being your nr 1 video or w/e!
Why are there so many Guinea's in Africa?
Because Guinea Pigs are very popular
"Guinea" is an old term for the West African coast from the Senegal all the way to the Kongo river.
SantomPh
