Stay cool Stay tuned and remember, this is Earth, your home. Learn about it.
I actually look forward to all the African countries. Africa tends to get ignored in the west
SirVolcy i love to learn about them too but that is annoying that we can't visit them easily.
in Asia or at least in india I can say that Africa is ignored a lot and have a lot of stereotypes too
Ojas Chahal that's especially strange considering the proximity and that many Indians live in Africa.
Not tends, is. Which is a big shame
SirVolcy i think south africa and Kenya plus the Northern part are known in the west
Funfact: Gabon means "good night" in euskera/basque.
I think.
Sergi Monserrat Mascaró Yes, I'm basque and I can confirm it.
You're right. I was about to comment that!
Sergi Monserrat Mascaró in albanian means mistakes
Ghost Hunter it sounds similar but it's not mistake
Thanks! !! en español Por favor! !
Wait. People aren't watching the Africa videos??.......... WHYYYYYYYY????????????
NikkiLahvU2 well i watch all his videos anyway
Matthew Cobon me too! 😆
NikkiLahvU2 yup
i watch every video, i'd say more people are interested in major countries. Most African countries aren't big players in the world field
fuckakakaka Yeah, I get chu. But I'm a big geography fan so it's crazy to think some people are just nitpicky. Besides, the ones that aren't major countries are like hidden gems. I know about Britain and Russia but I never knew anything about Gabon.
Im gabonese 🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦
Me too!!!

Your country is lovely, love from Ireland!
If there's only ONE thing you need to take away from this episode, just remember....Surfing hippos.
Geography Now SURFING HIPPOS!!!
Geography Now NOTIFICATION SQUAD I LOVE YOU FINALLY A NEW COUNTRY *kiss me papa*
Geography Now he must've commented it in private and then published this
the funny thing is that if you take Gabon and put an a to the end like Gabona you'll get the hungarian word for wheat!
shocking i know!

I actually like small, relatively obscure country videos more. I already know a lot about the big ones.
www.afrik.com/le-continent-africain-plus-grand-que-les-etats-unis-la-chine-et-l-inde-reunis
is not small
same bruh
Gabon is larger than the UK. Not England, the UK
Mon pays. Who else is Gabonese ?
Moi
A en juger par votre photo, êtes-vous un Gabonais Blanc?
Yes, I'm a white Gabonese.
I'm a white Gabonese too. Are you from Port-Gentil or Franceville?
François Garnier like Ladinos
I don't ignore the African countries, i think they're some of the most interesting ones, especially because of the culture, people and traditions. Can't wait till you get to Ghana btw!
Who would skip the smaller countries we know nothing of? That is what this show is all about!
Growing up in Gabon, it wasn't a big deal to walk on the streets and encounter all kinds of snakes and outbreak critters. There was too much forest and sometimes what you think are vines on trees are actually snakes.
Barby,
Because of your episode on Ethiopia I was able to have a really nice coversation with my uncle from Kenya, because for starters, I actually knew where it was. Please keep it up with the obscure African countries.
I actually enjoy the smaller country videos. Finally, a place where I can learn about them... we already know too much about the larger ones.
There are countless videos on the world's larger nations. Finding informative and interesting videos on smaller, lesser known nations is rare. Keep these up, these are the best GeographyNow videos.
Peace, from Canada.
I really enjoy the 'obscure African country' videos. They are the ones where 100% of the information is new to me.
Now I really want to go there!
Do go there
Graphics look really sharp, nice work guys!!
FINALLY a geographic video Iv been waiting for a video for a week
Overall, a very good video. Thanks for taking your time for us. Obviously, you can't tell everything in such a short time. I'm yet to discover so many places of my homeland. Just to add a few things.
1: Mitsogo ( for the pronouciation, it'd be better to hear it) this ethnic group is believed to be the first among the Bantu to land in Gabon. My ethnic group the Myene is closely related to it ( and might even come from it, though we deny it).
2 Animals: appart from those you mentionned, we do have a great variety of wildlife. We have a lot of snakes, like pythons, or the horned viper ( whose venom is among the deadliest). Buffalos are thriving (hunted by people, since we have close to no wild lion remaining). We have whales, giant caimans, sharks, tilapias, etc...
3 Our local drinks are mostly palm wine, sugar cane wine ( popularly known as musungu), but Gabonese people really like industrial beverages. The Queen is what we call "la nationale"( Regab, the beer made in Gabon).
4 Equator passes through Booué ( l think), a small town in Moyen Ogooué. As you may guess, it gets very hot there ( l think that's were the highest temperatures are recorded in the country.
One more thing, women are not expected to have children out of wedlock( on the contrary it's a shame), it keeps happening due to the westernization, and loss of cultural values
am i the only one who sings along the intro? :D
Nope. I do too :)
I prefer the alternate song, "It's time to learn some chemistry LATER!"
I like to whistle along with the outer theme
Yeah, it's a very catchy and cheery tune.
The capital of Gambia is Banjul and the country is formed around a river giving it it's weird shape and to me it looks like a piece of Senegal got cut or and name The Gambia it is also one of the only countrys to have The in its name :)
i Love this show.
Surfing Hippos...???
That's REALLY remarkable...! :o
We are on a channel to learn about all sorts of countries. Why would it be boring to learn about an obscure country?
Barbs, thank you so much for this one!
I specifically watch the obscure countries (and especially "the friend zone"-part), so no need to impress me in the first three seconds! :D
SuRfInG hIpPoS?
Hopefully this will help me in my Geography Bee at my school!
The Gambia is one I've been looking forward to, I'm sure the weird shape and small size has an interesting story behind it.
The Gambia. This is going to be an interesting one considering what's happened.
My fave African countries are Burkina Faso, guinea Bissau, Gabon, Togo, Lesotho, eswatino, Rwanda, Gambia & cape verde
your videos are just awesome. Make one about Tunisia.
Géographie maintenant ! Gabon
It would be interesting i think if you mentioned some famous people from the countre in the episodes :) (Like Aubameyang for this one :P) but I still love your videos ! :)
I am making my Research project on Gabon in regards to human geography
One of the best countries
Thank you for your opening message it was needed!
i actually enjoy these smaller and not so well known countries more than bigger ones everybody knows. i even skipped france for example... and probably will skip the USA, Germany, Italy and etc.
1st time hearing about Gabon.
Black Panther, well now we know where Wakanda could be located
🤣😂😂 yeah that's actually the best place to find it..
You forgot the swimming elephants as well...
I love learning about African countries, Lusophone African countries, obviously
Although Gabon has a history worth discussing, we have 23 minutes less than Togo and 17 minutes fewer than Equatorial Guinea, which is why we need a video to be edited.
Ahhh, surfing hippos
Gabon peaceful place on hearth
6:05 it says 6% percent which then changes to 7%
9:22 he didnt even mention that in the Cameroon video lol
Very cool
You should do Jamaica
Can't wait till Barby probably talks about the history of Germany in 3 episodes time.. Also Barby, if you see this, i'm not sure if you've said already but considering Vatican City is technically a sovereign state.. Will you still be covering it in the alphabetical order or not? Same goes for North Korea given its secrecy aside from physical geography
Gabon looks more like a happy merchant.
Just in time for AFCON too!
You spelled Ethnic wrong...
Tanvi Purohit your hott
matthew That's not inappropriate at all...😓
Tanvi Purohit sorry 😐 i meant beautiful:)
matthew You're weird...
Surfing hippos!
You better make a video on sealand when you get to s
After a while back to you
I'm still waiting for Puerto Rico
Make a video about Nepal
SURFING HIPPOS. YEEEEESSSS
Very interesting video
Actually the African country episodes are my favourites since we sadly never really covered Africa in Geography class back in school, it was mostly Europe, North America and Asia. Through Geography studies at University I have a pretty good handle on South America. I'm a teacher by the way and really appreciate these videos. =D
Neat I’m only 8 and I am a geography teacher in Denton youth school
Mine too.
Same but we only did
Nigeria
Ancient Egypt
And South Africas Apartheid nothing much else
We even skipped south America because of covid

I like learning about those small obscure countries the most. because i learn so much new stuff.
www.afrik.com/le-continent-africain-plus-grand-que-les-etats-unis-la-chine-et-l-inde-reunis
plz stop saying small country
Small by reputation and political bearing, we all know Africa is a monster when it comes to size.
And small by population. I mean, 1.5 million? That's like a one bigger city.
1.5 million population is very small for a country m8.
Berlin has over 4 times that in poppulation.
Vjorp True
NO country is too insignificant to learn about, and no peoples are too obscure to respect and love ❤️
I'm so proud i was born in this small but beautiful African country
So do I
Gabon is nice
me too
Je suis vraiment fier d'avoir passer mes 10 premières années de vie là-bas.
i wasnt born here, but it seems very nice!
The only thing I know about Gabon is Aubameyang plays for them
Lord Sanogo Will Win The 2094 ballon d'Or i kind of expected him to be mentioned in the video :/
Me too mate;DDD
Now you know surfing hippos.
Lord Sanogo Will Win The 2094 ballon d'Or HEY I HAVE SEEN YOU IN 442oons, football republic and football daily and now I have seen you in Geography Now.

Mi Les Oh mon dieu, regarde a ceci hippo...
damn bbbbbbbbbboooooooooooiiiiiiiiii
Major Sinopa ma dieu?
Well ok that was unexpected. Nice (Y) :D
Hi excellent video about Gabon from a Gabonese guy. You have described quite well my country. But 2 importants things are missing (II know that you cannot fill everything). We have the only natural nuclear reactor Oklo and the oldest fossil unicell organism. So Gabon is the birthplace of all living organism!!! wahouuuuu
WHOOO
Last time I came this early, people still liked to make "last time I came this early" jokes.
THE PARADOX!
Lucas Williams please don't
123 guy The sequel Haha I'm sorry
Can you sing "I'm a barby girl" for a video?
PLEASE
-wut-
haha yes it will be funny😂
Maybe Japan video.
YOU ARE A GENIUS
wow barby, you've slowed down. the last time you uploaded a country video was last year. pick your speed up man!
Jerrin Thomas he took a break because his father had medical problems
Mathias Falk irony isn't always easy to recognize when written
Nyancat7 But if you did have a good sense of humor and some "basic" intelligence, you would get the joke.
Jerrin Thomas haha nice
Jerrin Thomas His dad is sick dude. Check out his Facebook page.
Ludacris's wife Eudoxie Briges is from Gabon! And a proud ambassador of her Teke culture :)
"Gabon is like a sister of Congo who got rich and changed her last name." I like your descriptions; really creative Barby!!!!
I'm never bored with ANY Geography Now video
This is the only channel were I can click like before I even watch the video. They are always fascinating. I used to love looking through an atlas as a kid.
Same
the newer ones are too long for my liking though (I don't really care about sports or music), but I'll still watch it out of spite
The obscure African countries are my favorite because I don't know anything about them, so it makes the video much more interesting in my opinion!
Gabon seems like a really nice place
It is
rzeka I somehow compared Dominica (in the Caribbean Sea in the Americas) to Gabon for some reason.
After watching this video, I'm kind of craving visiting Gabon! Things seem to be really cool and interesting over there.
Man Lamp m8 Ebola has never been in Gabon. take a couple of seats
Ebola has been all but eradicated in Africa at this point. There is barely any left even in West Africa. It's never even been in Gabon.
🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦
He forgot to mention 2 things. Oklo and Gabonionta, both near Franceville.
Oklo is the unique natural nuclear reactor that went critical 4 billions years ago in that location.
Gabonionta, the fossil of one of the oldest multi-cellular life forms on earth. 2;2 billion years old.
I had no idea those exist! Thank you!!! (Sorry I'm four years late)
explain please
@@lesensdelavie1185 I explained as thoroughly a youtube comment deserves. If you want to learn more about Oklo or Gabonionta use your search engine of your choice.
I'm currently in Gabon now. And the CAN 2017 is going on. I almost forgot how humid the air feels 😂, also you forgot to mention that Gabon has unique parrots that can speak!
Hello hi
Aubameyang 💛💛💛
Black German PIERRE EMRICK AUBAMEYANG GET IT RIGHT HE FAST

Did he even mention Aubameyang?
Borussia Germania he's french born
Aubameyang ⚪️🔴⚪️🔴⚪️🔴
Last time I was early, Gabon was still part of France
SantomPh algeria was an entire french "département"
Senegal and Algeria were part of France
Gabon was never part of France, it was a colony
+Pipsy congrats '_'
Alice Evonic ?
Gabon is easily my favourite 'among the obscure African countries'. Even before knowing about the surfing hippos. Glad to see it covered.
I came here again to watch, after military took over Gabon.
Yep lol
Vive le Gabon. Aime si tu es Gabonais.
🤝
Salut les amis de Gabon!!!!

It's 4 o' clock in the morning Paul. I guess Geography doesn't give a damn.
He knows that he has a worldwide audience. It's 1 pm for me.
Keith Harrell 2 pm for me.
Here its 3 pm.. i just want to be part of things hehe
That's time zones for you.
Torgil Alstad you live in main land europe ?
so very NOT bored by the African countries! love your channel!!
0:57 Doesn't the shape of Gabon actually resemble the shape of Texas?
I can see that.
We're not all American you oversaturated cabbage
I was thinking that too. Honestly, though, I think it kind of looks more like Guatemala with buttocks.
@Txi I can't unsee that
When you're from an African country and you're perfectly knowledgeable about Gabon and Gambia yet know nothing about all those tiny European nations (I'm from South Africa btw which isn't even close to Gabon)
Haha touché!
THE Gambia
I relate
Enfin. Très bonne video, comme toujours. Vive le Gabon!
Alvin G vous êtes du Gabon? 🇬🇦
Oui, je le suis.
you presented my country so well wow thank you i even think there are some gabonese big shows that cant present gabon the way you did thanks...
Nice! Gabon seems like a really interesting place that not many people care about.
Gabon is a country that has the same independence date as Indonesia, which is 17 August, only the year is different. Indonesia love Gabon
The African cup of nations is currently being held there.
The pronunciation is a bit off. And you actually showed Franceville and old-Port-Gentil airports, not the Libreville and Port-Gentil international airports. I like your channel from Port-Gentil.
That's true
You have Gabonese names. Are you guys from Gabon?
Yes, I'm from Gabon.
SantomPh well, Gabonese people have French names. Some French names are more common in Gabon, than in France itself
Mahtlahtli they are both very corrupt. people are fed up with the bongo dynasty and are eager to see some change in the way the country is governed. We want more democracy and meritocracy.
The beaches are great, not too crowded, and with very warm water.
Fun, just take a look:
African Country's Names in english - Name in Portuguese -what the name means in english
Cameroon -Camarões - shrimp
Gabon - Gabão - cloak
Sierra Leone (actually resembles spanish) -Serra Leoa - Lioness Mountains
Cape Verde - Cabo verde
Ivory Coast - Costa do Marfim
Gambia - Gâmbia - from the portuguese "Câmbio" meaning "trade"
Contless Guineas - guinea kinda means rich place, or place of the blacks
Madagascar - from "Madeigascar"; Marco Polo's name from his book given to the island in 1502 by the Portuguese
I'm sure there's more, but I think it's enough to help get you an idea of how many contries have their name from the Portuguse langage and don't even realize it.
Caçador Especial you know ivory is simply the name of the stuff (elephent's "horns") and that it was called coast because it was an outpost of the french right?
Outpost of the French with Portuguese previous discovery. The Portuguese discovered that land and simply named it according to the most abundant resource avaliable.
Caçador Especial thx for this explanation
@@cacadorespecial6030 there for a Portuguese colonial

Hello I am very impressed by your video and by the number of information in it. I am Gabonese and it is very rare to see a person retailing as much a country that is not originating and just for that bravo to you and thank you for doing all this research and for allowing others to discover our beautiful country.
