- I recently met Huub from Huub's Vlog. It'd been a while since either of us had spoken to someone who lived such a similar lifestyle. With such similar problems and benefits to being a solo sailing man on RUclips. We immediately got to talking about all our lives with someone who could truly appreciate what we go through.
This video is our honest conversation with many insights he and I have never shared anywhere else.

This was such a fun collaboration! I really hope that our honest answers are going to help many out there who would like to do this or a similar lifestyle, or simply have these questions :). And of course, if there are other things you'd like to know of us, post it in the comments!
Huub, you had an awesome interview with Dan! I had no idea that you had so much in common because your videos have such different styles and I love them both. Huub, I really enjoy the different ways that make a European person completely different from an American person. Even the way that English sounds when you speak it sounds exotic to me. Thank you both for the hard work that it takes to make these videos.
Dude, it's mad to me that a guy who does such cool stuff, is willing to take on an adventure, and who is as handsome as fuck wakes up in the morning and checks the comments to see if people like it or not. I'm sat here thinking fuck, if I were that guy I'd be sorted. Evidently not, we all have the same struggles to different degrees. You seemed like a cool fella, I subscribed to your channel.
@@maewest68 I have found that everyone have the same feelings of not being handsome enough no matter how gorgeous they might be. This does not apply here, but the guys that spend hours everyday exercising each and every muscle in their bodies can be the most insecure of all.
Huub and Dan are handsome from genetics and their bodies have muscles from living in the outdoors and working hard physically, they’re not fakes from lifting weights. It’s much better to swim in the ocean or to work patching fiberglass all day long. These real men are not frauds even though they share the same feelings of inadequacy that the common person feels.

Man that is so true. I cannot think my thought and dream my dreams if I'm having to talk inanely about sod-all, eg a sale on in a make-up shop or one of the girls at work jilting her man because he didn't want to get married. Heaven help us.
This is truly inspirational... I'm here in the US burned out so much work... drugs and alcohol. I'm seriously thinking about my future. You guys are my role models. This is what I need. I need to sail.

I really liked the clarity that you & Hubb provided both on boat life in general and in the impact of social media. I’m 73yo with my 1st boat & not so much wanting to be a you tuber, but a great desire to escape all the negative news & social media. I’m on the Chesapeake Bay, learning the basics of sailing, but would love to sail to the Bahamas. Sometimes when out there I think just a left turn instead of a right & I could be on my way! For now I have much to do on my boat & im still learning basics. I really enjoyed listening to you and Huub. I have been following him for a few months now & I subscribed & liked yours today. Thanks again for sharing!

I'm 63 and passed my Dayskipper this year so nice to hear from someone older learning to sail!
You guys are way ahead of me on all this adventure AND much younger but the one bit of advice I have is DON'T worry about getting married!!!!

Man that was amazing! I've been watching sealing videos for the past~4 years but I certainly appreciate your raw Q&A session. I turned 52 y/o this week and have a great deal of respect and admiration for what you both are doing. I wasn't willing to take the risks at your age but wish I would have. Ok guys...I have another story regarding "do you like your boat?" I was looking for an economical auto especially with high gas mileage and came across an auction selling an 05 Honda Civic hybrid with 260,000 miles. this occurred over a year ago. I won the bid and had to work on it (myself). Replaced struts, tires and passenger window (and other work). Let me preface the rest: I have the means to have almost any auto I want. I LOVE this vehicle and drive it everywhere!!! I NEVER compare it to any other people's vehicles. I bought it cheap, fixed it, and love driving it. Huub, please get away at all costs thinking about what others have!

Comparing what you have to others then needlessly spending money to outdo or impress them is one of the dumbest things I can think of that humans do.

Dude you are smart I wish I was you in my past. I party and traveled few places in the world loved it but after all got married have children got divorced and experience women malice prosecution. Now I am focus to learn how to be a sailor learning from a 22 foot sail boat and preparing my self to became you one day, that's why I said I wish I was you in the past. Great exchange of thoughts from you guys on this video, keep up the good work.

Sailors are special. The longer you do it alone, the harder it will be to connect with non sailors. Try to keep a balance unless you are OK with not being understood by landlubbers. Maybe that's a dynamic I've found as a woman. Men possibly don't care about that level of connection.
That is part of why I try to take breaks from the boat and take on crew sometimes.

Dan, the reason that I've found to be lonely around other people is due to the fact that most people don't want to hear a story, they want to tell it only. Maybe that's something you are dealing with? I'm fascinated and impressed with what you've accomplished. Very impressive to me. People have become more narcissistic and self centered and for that matter more self-righteous. The self-righteous thought came about from Huub's comment about smoking. The self-righteous have condemned and demonized anything they don't agree with. So I sensed Huub was reluctant to share that and brave (in these times) to share it. When I was young we rebelled against those types of authoritarians so we smoked, drank and did drugs lol (I agree, not good for long term health) but it was our choice! I'm thinking about smoking again myself just to piss off the authoritarians lol.

Ha ha... sailing solo is Paradise, in a weak moment I welcome HELP but in reality, people suck, bleed, barf and crap on your home with indifference!! Rarely doing what is asked by a female captain...
Dan, extroverts recharge when in the company of other humans; introverts recharge when alone. I'm proud to be an introvert and it seems the less I have to talk to others, the happier I am.

Mine is going to be 24 feet and I'm going to sail in circles around those big heavy expensive maintenance nightmare boats and laugh, then sail into all the shallow anchorages and laugh again watching them roll around anchored way out there.

@@Adventureman_Dan Gotcha. I’m bicoastal and usually sail out of Marina Del Rey or Sausalito when on the West Coast. Currently in Mass and doing the Cape, Buzzard’s Bay.
I like observing people who makes mistakes a i learn from it, People showing up a perfect facade are not interesting
