    This is 1953 , Mumbai , a later half of the concert which went till early morning around 2 . He started with MaruBihag , then rendered Sur Sukh Khani , After the interval , this Malkauns , then Jogiya , Hari Ka Bhed . Then He launched himself in an elaborate Lalat and finished the concert with भैरवी ( बिन देखे पर नाही चैन ) .
    Vasanteao Achrekar on Tabla and Appa Jalgaonkar on Harmonium

      Is there any way to access the renditions you talked about, in this concert. Are they available on the public domain?

      Thank you Chinmoyji. May I please ask how you have this information? Only reason I ask is because his voice and style sounds different here from other recordings from 40s and 50s that I've heard, and sounds more like early 60s. But I have nothing concrete to base it on.

    The precision in the meends is surreal - The fresh training & vigor of the young voice really show. My guess is Pandit Ji is in his late 20's-early 30's here. In the Bada Khyaal, some of the phrasing has compositional meends with such precision, creativity and vigor. The sargams are also so beautifully linear yet expressive (in typical Kiran Gharana style).
    @Farhan Bhai - I wish I had words to convey my gratitude; I don't. The privilege of listening to Pandit Ji in his early years is euphoric.

    • @FarhanAmin1994
      @FarhanAmin1994  3 года назад +2

      @@jaisreerangarajan474 Haha. The 'Where were they being hidden?' is actually a hard question, I now realize. Some of these may have been recorded and preserved by collectors (maybe even unknown to the musician(s), or maybe the musicians forgot about said rec.s) ages ago.
      They, the collectors, either passed the rec.s on to their friends or someone accessed these by accident (perhaps after a collector's demise?) or these were... ahem... leaked. I have received all these pieces of music in an already digitized form and I have no idea of their provenance or origins. Technically and morally, none of these are my intellectual property. What's more, as does happen sometimes, the musicians themselves or their descendants may want recordings taken down, for reasons known only to them. Iss chakkar mein, certain channels may also close down. The selfish and clever thing for all rasiks to do is: if you like a piece a lot, download it and save/store it somewhere.

    Pre-80s Panditji is really a treat to listen with a distinct influence of Ustad Amir Khan, though more earthy and not that subtle, complex and cerebral. I find some continuation of this gayaki in Ustad Rashid Khan.

    This recording really shows, that he had a god-given masculine bassy baritone voice even in his early days and this is is when he was 31 (according to the pinned comment supposedly).
    This type of intune stereophonic baritone voice is pretty much ideal for Khyal and Dhrupad, only a handful of legends had this kind of vocal texture, I can only think of Ustad Amir Khan and perhaps, just perhaps... Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan, yep... that's about it.

      Also, the difference probably shows an evolution in singing style, which, perhaps, happens for most artistes. One easy rationalization of this may be to say that in his initial years, he felt an urgent need to prove his vocal dexterity to the audience. There are also factors such as state of inebriation, and age itself. All of these are speculation, of course. I am glad we have his recordings to listen to. (:

      In a way, yes. It would be akin to having a new syllable/akshar in the language of sahitya. Bhimsen ji actually did use a vowel sound not used much in HCM: the extended schwa sound. If you want a short demo of that, there is a 2 min excerpt of a 1980s Todi of his embedded in Parrikar’s blogpost 'The Empire of Todi'.
