I have a friend that lives in Williamstown and I researched this tunnel and it’s so interesting, I also came here from the very first episode of ghost adventures when they were investigating the Houghton mansion and the crew explored this tunnel.
It's fascinating to look back on this historic period. When many Europeans flocked to start anew in "the new world" I bet there was a lot of optimistic spirit and hope around that era, the people lived hard lives doing manual labour but they must have believed their toil was building a bright future.
This is awesome! I was just up there and looking around. I had read a little bit about it before going but mostly the ghost stories. I love all the history behind it I had no idea. Thanks for making this
@gionetz Thank you very much! I really appreciate your comment and am excited for you to get to the remaining aligning towers this year! If you watch Part 03, I visit all the aligning towers and and explain their use back during the tunneling.
If you like waterfalls, Twin Cascade is found near the eastern portal of the Hoosac Tunnel in the town of Florida. Two streams, Cascade Brook and an unnamed watercourse, tumble down their respective ravines forming waterfalls of about 50 and 80 feet respectively, and can be reached by climbing on the right side of the tunnel. There is a small stream on right and this can be followed into the woods, and it takes about 25 minutes to reach the falls. GPS Coordinates: 42.6767, -73.003 Once the falls are reached, you will find a timbered structure that once held water but over the years has filled with small rocks and debris. Some of the old photos show a water tower near the East Entrance that was used to fill the Steam Locomotives, and the waterfalls supplied the water. It has been at least 20 years since I visited the falls so I’m sure things have changed. GOOD HUNTING.
+Hannah bmth Went last summer, without incident. The only problem was when I lost third and fifth gears on the way back home, and had to spend on repairs :)
Just watched this again. Thank you both for this.
Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed this!

Interesting documentary. Why was there the need for the first couple of gentlemen saying the exact same thing?
@Jenzarpro Thank you! I hope you saw Part 5, which includes some ghost stories.

Theme song on you tube “In The Tunnel”, as proclaimed by Governor EDWARD King 1979.
Is there a good site to find good times or get permission to do a round trip slow hike, out of geological curiosity?
