Great bangin’ tune. Tool mixes their stuff really well. I just saw an interview where Maynard was asked if the band ever disagreed when it came to mixing. He said it’s “always a fight to the f#@&ing death”. Can’t imagine it being much better. Great reaction. Thanks guys.
One dose not simply listen to Tool. You experience there piece's of music. Just sit back and close your eyes and let the trip take you for the ride. That's Tool 🤟
It’s not about Bill Hicks. They respected Hicks annd sample him in “3rd Eye.” And L. Ron gets his due in “Aenima.” It’s about demagogues that paint themselves as martyrs for a cause.
Top tier Tool for me. After Undertow they skyrocketed to GOAT level here at Track 2. A nice, chill 15-sec scream forgotten before the epic one on The Grudge.
There were tributes in this record to Bill Hicks. The song Third Eye has bull hicks in it. I don’t think they would have a song shitting on Bill Hicks just to turn around and give the man tribute in the record.
Great reaction again! This album is still my favorite Tool record probably and this song is still so amazing . I would love to Dave react to another song from this album called “Hooker with a penis” 😅 Looking forward to his reaction on that track and the lyrics 🤣 ruclips.net/video/avl2BIhUzLA/видео.htmlsi=KIeEG6rUD3bk-Qih
I was a huge fan of the undertow album and that was the album that started reel me in to becoming a huge fan. But when aenima came out and I listened to this track I was blow away and knew that this band was something really special and I felt like this song was really the blueprint to their sound from that point on.
Maynard was good friends with Bill Hicks, so I'm not sure the tone of the song would suggest it's about Hicks, but could be in a way I suppose. In the early days of Tool Bill would open shows for Tool. Bill's voice is also in a couple songs.
A couple of suggestions Between the buried and me - the future is behind us. Incubus - anti gravity love song Opeth - ghost of perdition live at red rocks.
Great reaction! real intricate drumming and quirky sounds throughout. This one was a banger. Here's one for Dave to check. this one bass has real interesting guitar, bass, and drums and cool guitar solo. also features some great scenery (7 national and state parks sites) Its new from alt funk band from Ind., The indigos. It's the tune, The Wanderer ruclips.net/video/PfnZGhOrWMk/видео.html
Nandi Bushell does a wicked drumcover of the Tool song 46 and 2. She's a prodigy and has been drumming since she was 5. She was a guest drummer for the Foo Fighters when she was 11 on the song "Everlong" live I know OTP!! Go to her channel and listen to her 46 and 2 cover lol!
i have heard that the song could be about maynard killing his ego, or letting go of the ego . kind of shedding is shadow . i dont know if thats true but the song could really fit with alot of things like most tool songs. cheers
TOOL tends to have more open-ended lyrics than lyrics with one specific meaning. With that being said, L Ron Hubbard is what I’ve always seen as the subject, as the band lived in LA and Scientology is very popular there (at least as far as where that cult is most practiced). But the lyrics are also intentionally nonspecific and seem to point towards any cult of personality or wannabe martyr who preaches and wants attention while not actually wanting to die as a martyr like Jesus did. Someone who thinks they know everything and wants to be hailed as a leader and a messiah while being full of shit and having a huge ego.
I can't understand how anyone would say that this was about Bill Hicks who was their friend. This is not a song you write about a friend so I am most definately with the "L. Ron Hubbard" train. Tool has clear dislike for Scientology and the lyrics fit fine with the empty words and the crazy antics of Scientology.
I think this song eulogizes an archetype. Like a demagogue. Jmo. The Jesus metaphor illustrates that in my estimation. 🤘
Dave deserves a lot more views than he gets. Love his reactions.
Thx for hearing me out! The polirythm on the bridge is awesome, the hi hat is on 3/16 over the 4 on the kick and snare. It takes 3 bars to resolve

Paul actually wrote the bass line for Eulogy. He had written about half of the songs off of this album before leaving. It is about L Ron Hubbard.
And that song is almost 30 years old! Absolutely killer track!!

Tool is the best band....ever❤ this intro is everything I love it
Top tier Tool for me. After Undertow they skyrocketed to GOAT level here at Track 2. A nice, chill 15-sec scream forgotten before the epic one on The Grudge.
And that was before I heard Forty Six & 2, Ænima, Pushit, Third Eye...
Jerk off has a pretty epic scream as well.
This is my favorite Tool song.
“Is that about Jesus christ or what? What the fuck, that shit was insane”. Your quotes are epic😂
I laughed pretty hard at his comment, too.
I love this song
I've loved this album ever since I bought the CD in 1997. This & 'Undertow' have a special place in my soul 💜 -x-
L Ron Hubbard, I saw an interview of Maynard talking about a Scientology conference…and that this is where he got the inspiration from
Glad you're enjoying tool
Your style on reactions is so refreshing keep up the great work
Welcome to tool army you won’t have a favorite but a favorite now!
L Ron Hubbard definitely
Hi Dave thanks 😊
You're correct on the megaphone
Hell yeah! Tool without request?! It’s not about Bill Hicks, he was a friend of the band. Love y’all! 💨🥦🌀😎
Yeah, Hicks and Keenan traded comedy tapes. It's definitely not about a specific person
I was always told it was Henry Rollins. (who appears on their previous album)

Agreed. Dave's reaction to HWAP would be 😅🤘🏼
Bill hicks was an inspiration for the entire album

Have you watched "Pneuma", Vic Firth camera? If you haven't, do it now :)😊 The best band of my lifetime, 30 year listener.

Is it me or are there 5:4 polyrhythms all throughout time song
Dave's not here maaaaan.
The lyrics in the whispered section are likely incorrect
I looked in a few spots on line and they all had the same lyrics, they make no sense as they are that's for sure.
