one of the best moment of my life so far...my group got to play a full concert with Oliver! best part of it all...impromptu jam session before the actual concert, FOR the crowd! totally spontaneous, we were just throwing heads around, joking about, warming up, and all of a sudden we all lock into one tune, "There Will Never Be Another You"...i got to take the first solo including the 2 bar break break. Having a musician like Oliver comping behind your solo, almost nothing is comparable!
I've probably watched this video more than 25 times. I wish that Mr. Peterson and Mr. Jones had recorded more duets.....the master and his student. Awesome!!!
Did any of you noticed that Oscar played with just one hand? He has stroke and he couldn't play with the left hand again. Not withstanding, he still sounded so good
thanks for post from school to the present oscars been a part of my life i want to cry when i see this clip but a smile wins when i think of the joy he brought to me. niels too .ray browns fabulous dep. three giants gone/ keep.swinging oliver
Oscar is the best I was privileged enough to spend the afternoon sound mixing and learning from him. He is hands down a wonderful man and an amazing artist.
(translation) Thank you very much! Ladies and Gentlemen, it's a huge honour. I must say that, all my life, I was inspired by this gentleman here. One of my songs, even if it's Oscar who wrote it, I think I made it more than him! I would like to have the money that he did! Ladies and Gentleman, Hymn to Freedom.
oscar will be and will stay oscar....but this duet is amazing. only with his right hand, he seems to play with 4...he's stay the best one in world....witn art and michel P
No, one papa, one bad student. I'm firstly talking about "contenant" and not "contenu".., French words that should exist in English. Basic Grec thinking. Secondly, another day...
Nice... I didn't realize Jones was the neighbor and student of Peterson. It all make sense ... the call and response ...student making the lesson of the teacher his own...
Sure, I can help. I will first write what Oliver Jones says in French: ''Merci beaucoup! Mesdames et Messieurs, Hymn to Freedom.''
In my opinion, every musician expresses his feelings when playing music, if you like someone's music or not depends on how much you like the feelings they're expressing through the music. There isn't a #1 piano player, you can only say that when you're looking at their technique or something, because there are rules for it but I think you should be listening to music and not watch the technique.
please could we stop putting jazz musicians on a scale, like best pianist on earth, this music is not a race...each one has something to say,and play his stuff..the best he can.this is about love and share, let them out of cotations agencies...please.
I am just wondering as to why Oscar is having such a hard time with his right hand. I know old age could be the main factor but, Was there maybe another stroke involved? or some other health issue ?
Greatest of the great. What's wrong with the video mix? It's terrible for a musician to watch. Special effects . ADS inspired I guess. The camera should be just behind the player and on the keys. Jesus we don't want to see their backs and heads, And blended videos of the 2 pianos . We want to see their hands . OK it improved just over 1/2 way through
Oliver Jones was Oscar Peterson's neighbor and student. Imagine how both feel playing together at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Creo que recibió clases de piano con la hermana de Oscar
O.P., what a huge musical personality, what a beautiful soul!

We all wish we had been there. But, at least, we still are able to hear it. Over and over again. And then some more.
Thank you! *Oscar Peterson - August 15, 1925 - December 23, 2007* - Shared Dec 23, 2018
What a couple of inspired talents! Totally memorable!!
Two masters, two brothers. It's nice to see such love and respect as each inspires the other without competing.
Many thanks for such beauty....😊
I've probably watched this video more than 25 times. I wish that Mr. Peterson and Mr. Jones had recorded more duets.....the master and his student. Awesome!!!
I second the motion.
Twenty five times . . . that's a good start.
Wow! Magic. I enjoyed that. Thank you maestros.
I'm very fond of this performance.. never gets old.
Did any of you noticed that Oscar played with just one hand? He has stroke and he couldn't play with the left hand again. Not withstanding, he still sounded so good
Omg thank you for making me notice that now it sounds even more magic
'Yes!....... Surreal !!
I was unsure whether he's just playing in a restrained, minimalistic manner.
聽了兩個星期,還是震撼不已。演奏者的眼神交會,心靈交流,旋律交織於當下的時空。在聆聽的當下,時間好像突然暫停。就算是多年後在電腦前聆聽,也忍不住在演奏時起身鼓掌。
Great comping from the guitarist!

2 masters at work..
No, one papa, one bad student.
I'm firstly talking about "contenant" and not "contenu".., French words that should exist in English. Basic Grec thinking.
Secondly, another day...
Prune Giraud Sharp comment...
As you mentioned... (3 dots), so clear. Tell me if I must thank or smack you, dear Ezio. ;)
Prune Giraud That's nice question ! Use your basic thinking….. (5 dots)
It seems you have enough talent to participate. Subscriptions are on the 3rd floor. Bye dear, and........... good luck !
Nice... I didn't realize Jones was the neighbor and student of Peterson. It all make sense ... the call and response ...student making the lesson of the teacher his own...
Show!!! ✋👏👏👏👏
How it is even possible to dislike it?
2:23 lmao almost the lick.
Bryan Hails which lick
Climbers Of Ice Oh, look up "the lick". It's just a very common lick in jazz called "the lick"
Well spotted!
Why would anyone dislike this?
Damn
They grow in the same worker's suberb in Montreal.
Oliver he is a great guy to know. We should see more of Oliver Jones.

Oliver Jones! Monster Player!
I second the motion in this year of 2024 when soon O.J. will turn 90! Take care of yourself.

Si sigue practicando va a ser un gran pianista el señor.
just brothers.
F*ck me, this is too good for RUclips! I wish I could have the half of their talent.
comparison is NOT a righteous way to criticise this brilliant performance. i.m.h.o.

I am just wondering as to why Oscar is having such a hard time with his right hand. I know old age could be the main factor but, Was there maybe another stroke involved? or some other health issue ?
He was classically trained, his technique was impeccable. He had a stroke and old age, but he was still great.
i think he had 1 or 2 strokes which affected his left hand
He had suffered from arthritis in his hands all his life, but it got progressively worse as he aged. Just shows his dedication to the craft.
