That’s the beauty of mauna kea I’m in Seattle and just watching that sunrise behind that mauna gave me peace and mana. The maunas not only bringing all the Hawaiians it’s bringing all the islands together. We are all NESIANS and the mountains ⛰ calling for all of us to come together and fight these higher ups who think they own and can put their own laws above those Hawaiians their is a reason it’s called HAWAII.
They no like tell us what they doing because they know what they doing is wrong🤮🤮🤮🤮 PROTECT THE MAUNA!!!! If you take the MAUNA YOU TAKE A PIECE OF ALL OF US AND OUR CHILDREN
My brahda's and sistahs my heart cry's for our movement and this just go to show how many cultures the white man and these corporate businesses have desicrated and ran over we will not stand down anymore we will rise and die for what is truly ours and that's our land and our culture rights as Hawaiians and as Kanaka Maoli and to all other tribes of culture
There are no Native Hawians you guys came from Asia. The only Natives of a land are Africans from Africa . Stop blaming white people for all your problems loser
Gordon and Betty Moore, what is a bigger legacy? Discovering another fact about the universe or setting an example for how humans can peacefully resolve differences in love?
So.. here is what News does not explain....the new telescope uses nuclear gases to help see great distances. The nuclear gases require cooling. The new telescope proposes to drill into the biggest aquifer on this island to help cool these gases. This Aquifer is large enough to sustain all the islands for hundreds of years. The university released a statement that they plan to do test drilling in two or three locations!!! Now do you understand why not just Hawaiians but all people who call this beautiful island our home are protesting??? Theres a telescopes that are no longer being used.. why aren’t they cleaning up those sites, and recycle locations?!?! This is tampering with OUR WATER supply!
"nuclear gasses" are not even a thing, the telescope will use Air Conditioning just like any other normal building, and will be powered by solar panels and the local electric grid. Also, the telescope will NOT impact the aquifer because the aquifer is not at the summit, but many thousands of feet below. These are simple facts that are easily attainable from the Environmental Impact Statement, and that were proven in court. Please stop spreading misinformation.
I'm sick of the narrative being pushed by politicians and so-called law enforcement as if this telescope is inevitable. When they say oh the protesters have the right to stand on the side of the road while we build this telescope, I'm like oh no... The Protectors of the mountain are here to stop this monstrosity from being built! And it is not a given that it will be built, because we will prevail and it will not be built. So much love to the kia'i!!
Think of the tiny carbon footprint that native Hawaiian cultures put on the world, compared to the Islands, today. This is about much more than just this latest intrusion on a magical paradise. The people are fighting for their culture, rights, and the land that was stolen from them. How could anyone side with science in this situation? It's true that we're all guilty to some extent, especially the technically advanced cultures, in having to rely on technology and the side effects, in order to feed an overpopulated world, and themselves. But Hawaii and other native cultures still could have been left alone, and assisted, rather than exploited. Such as- the white man asking the Native Americans to share the land, rather than colonizing. Or asking the Hawaiians if visitors, respectful of the Island's environment, could come to the Islands- but no settlers. I think that social media is helping that Hawaiian movement, and is now getting the world's attention. The spotlight could only help the Hawaiians cause against, not only the telescopes, but other desecrations in the future.
Something that she said sounded so amazing the Native American Indians know the government's Playbook it is important that people that have played the game Teach others how the game is played since you don't know the game you will always lose. But the one question I have is where is the office of Hawaiian affairs
There is so much to say about the video's content, but time doesn't allow me right now, so one quickie. Redulla states (I'm paraphrasing a little), "It's alright to stand on the side of the road to show your disobedience." Respectfully. Redulla has it wrong. Standing on the side of the road is not civil disobedience, it is an expression of protest, just as the regularly scheduled sign waving is in my town, Waimea,. It's the standing in the road, breaking the law, that is civil disobedience. Britannica Dictionary defines, in part, this way, "Civil disobedience, also called passive resistance, refusal to obey the demands or commands of a government or occupying power, without resorting to violence or active measures of opposition; its usual purpose is to force concessions from the government or occupying power. ... Civil disobedience is a symbolic or ritualistic violation of the law rather than a rejection of the system as a whole. The civil disobedient, finding legitimate avenues of change blocked or nonexistent, feels obligated by a higher, extralegal principle to break some specific law. It is because acts associated with civil disobedience are considered crimes, however, and known by actor and public alike to be punishable, that such acts serve as a protest. By submitting to punishment, the civil disobedient hopes to set a moral example that will provoke the majority or the government into effecting meaningful political, social, or economic change. Under the imperative of setting a moral example, leaders of civil disobedience insist that the illegal actions be nonviolent." This is what the Kapuna did. It's concerning that a law officer/spokesman speaks as if he does not know the difference because that indicates he may already be feeling as if he is letting illegal acts occur in order to demonstrate tolerance, in which case, he may one day feel like he has used up his tolerance quota and act accordingly. Hmmmmmm The rest of the Britannica Dictionary's definition of civil disobedience is well worth reading, as is Thoreau's book of the same title. www.britannica.com/topic/civil-disobedienc
Want to look at the stars, so outside and use a pair of binoculars. What kind of taxpayer-funded welfare boondoggle is this "telescope"? Rest assured there is a serious amount of corruption involved in this mess.
If I did not have a job and needed to support my family, pay for health care and food, I would be there. Lots of white hippies there, assuming they think there is pot growing up on the volcano.
Why don't someone write or call the president on that mountain care solution I have a big beautiful picture of Mauna Kea with no telescopes on it it is a prize-winning picture for sure somebody is going to be punished by building more telescopes on Death Mountain Madame Pele is watching on you look what happened to those Pilots that bombed that lava flow years ago in that area they all died they got punished by Madilyn Bailey thank you very much I feel so sad about it Madame Pele

All this talk about how the land was stolen is interesting. Did Kamehameha steal Maui when he unified the islands and also did he kill/murder my wifes ancestors that were trying to protect the Kingdom of Maui? Does having matching skin color make it ok?
