I am a retired Bank Officer. Recently I bought a note book of Asus X555l.I think it is best for my home use.
Why Does This Guy Not Already Have 50k Above Subs Yet?! His Videos ,Are Nice And Tidy No Stuttering And, Most Important Of All The Reviews Are Actually Better Than Those Who I Saw On Far Bigger Channels.

Is this computer suitable for a graphic design student? can it handle heavy hours of illustrator, after effecfs, maya studio and few hours of overwatch?
I was able to open this up without issue and adding RAM is quite easy. I have the X555LAB variant, which I suppose could be different. It's so cheaply built that it makes you scared to pull the thing apart, though.
This is a really good review, good wok. The only problem I have with this laptop is that one can't upgrade and also I have eyesight problems, so I heavily depend on dark rooms and a back-light keyboards. The back-light is something I can compromise but when it comes to upgrading, I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone.

+2ne1791 GTA 5 on high settings, you can expect 35-45 fps on 1366x768! You'll get around 25-30 fps on 1080p!

I removed the bottom cover on mine easily, added an SSD, used an adapter to put the 1tb hdd into the disk drive slot, and added ram. You totally can open it.

Nowhere else have I read that this GPU has GDDR3 Ram instead of the older DDR3. Are you sure Asus has equipped them with GDDR3?
And do you think the newer version, x555ub-nh51, will have has GDDR3 as well.

You cant remove the bottom cover because its not what you remove what you pull out is the keyboard area and then thats when you see the internals.

Can some1 explain me how a 2-cell battery is considered a good laptop battery? most laptops have 4 or more cells battery..
i got the X555L in march and just in a couple of months, marks appeared on the screen from the constant contact with the keyboard. even the 'brushed metal' like palm rest has developed several marks from the cheap quality plastic surrounding the screen. Is this just with me or happened to others as well... please do comment on this. Thanks guys.

I just got the X555 for my birthday.You mentioned bluetooth being an available use, but i can't seem to find it anywhere on not only the keyboard, but the system devices awell. Does this laptop have bluetooth readily available? or do i need to go and purchase a physical one?
I just bought this & for the life of me can't find what version HDMI video output this has. Is it 2.0, 1.4, 1.3...etc? It's the 8 gb RAM, i7-5500u, 1 TB 7200rpm HDD version that's currently sold out on Newegg.

Got a variant of this model (F555) a few weeks ago. So far, it's been good for what I use it for; watching movies, Spotify, surfing the net, Python, Angular, Github, Atlassian, and some basic photo editing. Keyboard's pretty noisy when you type but that hasn't been a problem. The matte display isn't very bright at the max setting & contrast is lower. But that's no big issue for me as I often hook it up to an external monitor.
Otherwise, decent performance for a good price.

Are you sure the 3dmark benchmarks ran on the Nvidia card? Just curious because it says generic vga on your results page.
+Julian Gutierrez As I mentioned in the video, at the time of this review the drivers were underdeveloped. And the benchmark results were echoed in a later notebook review with the same GPU (the Acer Aspire E15).
Was this Laptop released in 2015? Also I found a Asus X555LB which has the ''B'' suffix at the end. Exact same specs however the screen is not full HD (1366X768 resolution). Has anybody purchased this laptop?
+Coinkidink Fella Yes , it's a 2015 laptop and there are different variations of the same laptop, for example I have the K555LN, which has a similar form factor, only that the materials used are metal instead of plastic with i7 CPU and 1080P display, basically all the "555" models are similar, with different internals.

I think he said these cores aren't fast enough for video editing and such. [they are two cores CPU]. It can handle it but its painfully slow it will rustle your jimmies.

hey guys I have the same laptop and I'm wondering if there is a built in fan inside my laptop to help with the overheating. I'm trying to avoid overheating and purchase compressed air .Any tips on where to use the compressed air? (sorry for my english)
The fan in a laptop is always just inside the vent. You can clean the fan by spraying canned air directly into the side vent and through the holes on the buttom of the laptop. Turn the power off first for a better clean. Keeping it clean will help prevent overheating.

The color balance is slightly cool (white leans toward blue) and it gets just dim enough for comfortable reading in a dark room.

Can this run NBA 2K16? When I was in the shop the guy from the store told this Laptop would run any recent game smoothly, and the Specs from this PC are better than the NBA 2K16 System Requirements, so it should be fine.
Yeah 2K games arent challenging to run. I can run GTA 5 on medium at 40 plus frames. So it can defintely run NBA 2K16.

+Alexis Marquez If you're just beginning with rendering programs and doing simple objects, this will be fine. You'll see some artifacts and probably missing polygons because it's an entertainment-oriented GPU and not a workstation graphics card, but you'll get along okay.
But if you're going to school or using this for work and you'll be dealing with complex models I would definitely get something with a strong i7 chip and an Nvidia Quadro or AMD Firepro graphics card. And more memory would be nice too, like 16 gigs.

HELP WITH MY ASUS LAPTOP PLEASE!
I had the metallic one, i7 and it got wet by water dripping over the key board for like 2 hours. I put upside down in fromt of a fan to dry it, after a day, I decided to remove the back cover to dry more, I couldn't do anything else because idk how remove the other parts (it has fixed battery btw) then after another day, I decided to turn it on but then it failed to. I brought it out for repair but then the mechanic disassembled the parts and saw corrosion on the mother board. He said it's risky to attemot fix it by replacing the mother board because there might be damages to the other parts which might cost more where buying a new one would be better. Anyone here have the same case? Im still hoping that that replacing the mobo could fix it. I'm disappointed that the laptop might just go to junk. Is there anyway to know if the other parts are still okay like the ram, processor, wireless transistors etc. ?
put it a box in the hot sun, it may dry the water inside by evaporating it... just a suggestion.

no, stick another 4gb stick of ram so that it can become 8 gb if your cheap. Ram works best if the sticks are the same value. Besides 8 gigs is plenty enough.

Solrac Oreca The GTX 850M is worth $100 more in performance. So if a 940M notebook costs $700 and a GTX 850M notebook costs $800, then you should stretch your budget and get the GTX 850M. Anything more expensive than that is per your discretion.

Now I'm kinda curious how laptops life cycle lasts. I know i7s are more powerful than i5s somewhat but I see dual cores everywhere each with their hyperthreading cores.
Wondering if picking a laptop with an i7 with 4 actual cores would provide noticeable speed compared to the dual cores i7 or i5 which doesn't have too much difference right?
I'd appreciate more info regarding laptop parts. I'm kinda new at the Ultrabook department but I'm familiar with parts and product models from desktops.

Solrac Oreca Laptop lifespan is about two years on average, give or take depending on your needs. As far as speed is concerned, that's all relative. What do you want to do with your notebook?
Well as a college student, I knew that laptops wouldn't scale well during my student years (probably 4-5 years) and maybe a little bit of coop games with mates but because of lack of upgrade-ability unlike desktops which would be easy and cheap to do, a laptop's portability feature outweighs longevity and upgrade-ability for the desktops part b'sides, light gaming (CS:GO, League of Legends, Dota 2, Smite) is possible and safe to play with laptops right?
I found laptops with real 4-cores i7 to be too expensive for my notebook budget (around $600 - $900) but it would be nice to get one of those for longevity. So I am left with either a dual-core i5 or i7 but I think I'll stick with the gpu being an 840m or 940m and if I found some good laptop deals with an 850m inside.
Those specs combined with 8GB ram and 1TB HDD would last around 2-3 years before it gets some performance degradation right?
Would highly be thankful if you can recommend laptops with those specs as of today and maybe some notebook brand insights? (I heard Dell's parts can be cumbersome to find and expensive too!)

It's quite light. But also large, so it might be a bit tricky putting it on those foldout lecture hall desks or stuffing it into a messenger bag.

i have x555ln with 840m model and i want to upgrade ram, but this ram cover has some kind of plastic over hole (where screw should be) and i cant remove it without damaging the cover and iam affraid to loose the warranty if i try to force it open... damn it asus why you do this!
PlayerOne Contact ASUS about it, I asked them about the warranty before I replaced the HDD, they said it wouldn't void my warranty.

deepPuddlesarefun Well the thing is, when you disassemble it, you don't break any stickers or any warranty labels. So even if I did have to send it back it wouldn't be easy for them to tell that it was opened.
gonzap50 Could you tell me how you've opened this laptop? I removed all the screws in the back but no idea what to do next. Doesn't seem like the back comes off easily... Don't tell me I have to remove the keyboard?
Eravulgaris It's not to bad, start with removing all the screws in the back, keep track of which ones go where, many of them are different sizes. Once all the screws are out go ahead and flip the laptop back over. Open the lid and now you're gunna need a prying tool of some sort. I used a .88 mm guitar pick that a friend gave me. They are super cheap too. Then I started in the back right corner of the system and worked my way around it counterclockwise. As you slide the prying tool around the sides you will be unclipping little plastic hooks. Go slow and be careful these clips can be broken. I broke one when I opened my, but a dab of superglue fixed it like new. Once you get the keyboard clips undone you can go ahead and lift it off. If it feels like something in the middle is holding it, just give it a little jiggle. Don't pull straight up, you want to lift the touchpad area first and look in. There are two ribbon cables that you can disconnect if you want to take the keyboard off entirely. (This is all about switching out the HDD, so I guess your question is answered).
It is possible to take out the hdd without removing them, but it was easier in my opinion to just take them off. At this point you are inside and the harddrive is in plain sight. You will want to unscrew the right USB and SD card reader. This will let the HDD free and you can swap in an SSD. Now just retrace your steps and put it back together. If I didn't cover anything just let me know, I should respond fairly fast.

Actually, changing the HDD isn't that hard. I swapped it for an SSD myself.

Unstoppable Beast Depends on how good you are. If you want to pwn face then probably not, this laptop can't deliver competitive FPS at high res. If all you do is run around and troll with noob tubes (if CoD even has those anymore) then by all means go for it.

Not bad for the price range but still not good. I'm personally disappointed with the [lack of] ability to display blacks and dark colors. More so, the lack of upgrades in the hard drive and display department are very disheartening. Critical details were also scant on ASUS' website - I think I'll be returning mine.
