✅ Can a Driveway Paint Job look as good as one done in the Paint Booth ???

- It's finally happening, the last video of this rebuild is here... I'll get all the panels of the truck prepped and painted. And I'll be thorough as usual in the description of the process as I'll take you through the paint job step by step. Auto paint isn't all that complicated, but there is a definite set of rules that has to be followed in order to achieve that nice, good looking, factory like finish that will last for years to come. As usual it's a 3 step process where I'll be laying down some sealer, base coat and clear coat.

awesome work and yes some of the best paint jobs are done at home
I would have to agree with you on that, I feel that at home I'm not being rushed and can really take my time and that intern yields better end result !
Here's a tip on pouring paint from a can. If you put masking tape over the seal in the tin, it stops the paint getting into the seal. I picked that up on Junkyard Dave's channel.
👌👌
Great idea
Great tip!
Just found this channel. I grew up in my dads body shops. You do good work and it’s obvious, you don’t cut corners. That little bit of orange peel probably matches the oem finish perfectly. The first of your videos that I came across was the new compressor build. I’m impressed by the way you think like an engineer. I subscribed and look forward to more.
Appreciate the comment Jacob. I always try to excel at anything that I do. Learning from my mistakes and try to do better next time around. A bit of orange peel isn't really all that noticeable, I just notice it more because I know I could've achieved a better, flatter finish if the air compressor did not partially quit on me.
I like the tip about taping the body line. Ive never tried that. Great video.
Give it a go, I bet you'll like the results !
As someone who has painted 3 cars in their driveway, you certainly can get a booth quality paint job. One thing I did was wait for a day after it had rained, to keep dust down and flying insects at home.
😢you had the big chance of causing blooming due to the monster in the air
Sorry moisture😮
Great to see a new video, I've been waiting patiently for you to upload again. The truck turned out great. I sure hope you have the time to continue making and uploading videos regularly. You always have interesting and informative videos.
Thank you Bruce, to be a content creator is a bit of a lifestyle. You definitely have to make a lot of sacrifices to keep the channel going to upload regularly. That means no TV in the evening. You basically work during the day doing your regular stuff and then in the evening you get behind a computer and edit until it's time to go to bed. I kind of got away from that over the course of last year, caught up on some movies and watched a few series... But I also spend a ton of time researching topics that fascinate me. And in the process I gather up knowledge that I will be using in my future videos. I got some really cool ideas that I'm looking forward to bringing to fruition. And I'm top of that I constantly kick myself in the butt for filming a lot of interesting videos but I'm not putting in the time to get them out to you guys. So basically have to make some lifestyle changes because I want the channel to grow and it will not succeed unless I put in the work and time.
I'm going outside to touch up my truck now You inspired me very simple steps thank you and to the point.
super helpful thanks !!
never seen a video with great results painting outside without a (diy) tent / tarp / paint booth
Glad it was helpful!
You are amazingly talented and I really enjoy your video format. I could watch you do anything and be entertained.
I really appreciate that ! Thanks for watching brother !!
I stumbled across this channel randomly and I am so glad I did. The amount of time and effort you put into your videos, the tips, shared experience and advice is outstanding.
You need more subs!
Appreciate it and welcome aboard!
You are an artist. Well done!
Thank you Tom !!
Great series, well done like all of your videos. Keep up the good work, my dude. 👏
Thank you Joe. Got much more in the works !
Lovely work. So glad to see it turn out so well for your son!
He sure loves that truck !!
Amazing you didn’t get bugs or trash in the clear , that’s always been my problem a bug decides to get in the clear then wonder around before dying lol.
That truck looks great and your tips are helping a lot of people
I really liked the compressor video too!!!
Thanks man, there is actually a science to not getting bugs in your paint. Especially in the summer when majority of the bugs are out, you want to paint earlier in the day, preferably in the morning before it gets really warm and bugs generally like to come out in greater numbers in the evening
I had a guy that hit a palm tree in his yard side swiping the bed. It turned out to be a bigger project then expected and 1130 pm that night the light had attracted moths and mosquitoes swirling around. He wanted to get it done so we sprayed it with clear which served as fly paper to the swarm. He said it was fine lol.
Please don’t stop
I'm determined to keep going !!
I always enjoy your videos, you are very knowledgeable and great at relaying information. Best wishes, from South Texas.
Thanks Lorenzo, I appreciate the comment and thanks for coming back to check out my new stuff
I just met ur son and he turned me on to ur page! Ur doin good work and raising hood kids!!!!

Very nice job in teaching beginners what and what not to do. Looks great. Thanks for sharing. Truck Driver Ray ✝️
Thanks Raymond ! That's what I'm here for 😉
Excelente video 👌 saludos desde Honduras 🇭🇳👋
Hola, Marco !!
Good video … it looks like that red base covers very well
Welcome back ❤️
Thank you!!
Many thanks for sharing really appreciate your knowledge sharing. Brilliant job love the colour.
Your videos are awesome, great job, I’m just wondering how many neighbours complains you had lately, I have A LOT just because I do mechanicals at home and my neighbours hate it! Keep the quality and don’t stop posting content!
23:36 Wow bravo I'v never seen such a repair, looks original!!!
Thank you very much !! I am definitely pleased with the way it turned out...
Always Like before watching
I always appreciate it 😉
Nice work 👍😎
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you! Very nice job.
My pleasure!
Nibs for days. Excellent job
Tip for you, if you can find out the grey shade color, (varies from white to very dark grey) you can have that mixed up in base coat. That color could’ve used a lighter grey for faster coverage.
I love the recent uploads. Everything you post is really right inline with what I do at home as well.
I got a lot more footage in the works along those same lines. Promise I won't disappoint!
Hey Fix, good to have you back! But the video was blacked out when I tried to play it. Phillip Hall
same for me. Good to see you back after these months. Just yesterday I was wondering what you are up to.
Sorry had a technical issue... Got it fixed !!
@@fix206
I wasn’t complaining. I just wanted to let you know in case you didn’t realize it. Keep up the good work my friend!
Phillip Hall
No worries Phillip, I know you weren't complaining :-) I worked on the last part of the video all day and into the night, finally got it uploaded around 1 AM and that's when it went live, I was so tired that I went straight to bed without re-checking everything. Made a mistake while uploading and instead of a 24 minute video I ended up with a two minutes of black screen and some music lol didn't catch it until I woke up this morning
@@fix206 Glad you got it worked out, it's also full length now.
Finally dimka!!! Love your videos!!!
Thanks Pasha! I really appreciate it !! It was cool running into you that one day in Seattle... We should get together sometime and do lunch or something
Looking pretty darn good Dima. Now I just need Isaac to bring his old green truck by for a respray.
I don't know about a respray...lol He maybe better off checking with Maaco on something like that 😂
I do it in my garage. I pick the correct days to do it. I'm happy
I normally pick a nice day when it's not going to rain and also when it's not windy or breezy. I generally do it during the week earlier in the day when most of my neighbors are away at work and such...
Happy to see you posting again! I found your channel a little while back from your homemade driveway frame pulling work. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I'll have more frame pulling in the driveway content that will be out pretty soon.. Stay tuned !!
Very great job! If i may suggest. Painting the gas cap just so it blends with the rest of the paint
I did get it painted off camera, that's why once everything was reassembled there was no difference in color between the freshly painted bedside and the gas door
Beautiful job very well done
Thank you very much!
Learned a lot from this, thank you! Can’t wait to see how you address the air compressor! Cheers
I bet you did 😉 Already working on the next vid !
Glad to see you posting again and fabulous work as usual. please don't disappear again 😁
Thanks man! I got a ton of material filmed, the plan now is to bang it all out and get it posted. So hopefully it won't be long until the next one drops 👍
My luck, the city street sweeper would be coming by about the time you’re spraying.
Beautiful work glad to see you back !!! Keep up the good work & teaching us the how too’s …👍
Thanks, will do! Already working on the next video... Hopefully I'll have it posted by next weekend !!
Glad to see you posting again. I was wondering when you would and when the pickup would be finished. Hopefully, we will be getting updates on the body over pickup truck you were working on.
The truck's been done for quite a while, actually it got sold about a week ago. It's been hard to find time and motivation to finish up this video. But after I got it pushed you, I'm motivated to keep on going. Hopefully this motivational feeling will stick around :-)
Amazing work
Thank you very much!
Good paint job 👍
I've been waiting for ever
Please keep it going!
Working on the next one right now :)
I love your channel man and how you breaks down everything that you are doing step by step I have been watching plenty of channels and I haven’t really understood no one channel but yours I salute 🫡 you got the game that you are given really appreciate you Brother
I appreciate that!
Excellent content, a house is only good as the foundation beneath it
Very true!
Really nice job
Thanks John, appreciate it!
Amazing results! I dream to paint my car one day when I have the confidence to pick up the spray gun! 😊. JR
And as long as you follow all of the steps with a little bit of practice you can start laying down some paint and it will look good!
Great video Fix!
Phillip
Thank you Phillip, much appreciated!
You are so right, I try to save as many of the panels as possible. So far all my auction cars have been for me, but especially if they were flip cars I'd try to save them. And oh yes, cover up any vehicles if close, especially that clear coat floats right onto things you don't want it to! You only make that mistake once, even if it is the wife, don't ask me how I know.. 😉😉😂🤣😅
Heck yeah, when it's your own money on the line you're trying to save as much as possible, if it's shops money, make your job as easy as possible 👍👍 not the first time wife pulled something like this, but she generally makes up for it by cooking some bomb food... and other things 😎🤣
Daz right 😇
yes yes yes more videos greetings
You got it man, I should have the next one out in a couple of days..👍
Thanks, well done ! ! ! 👍👍
Thanks Billie, appreciate it !!
Some people think you can send the basecoat and clear it don’t try that with metallic nice gun you have
Awesome video.
Sorry had a technical issue... Got it fixed !!
Fantastic job
Thank you very much!!
Protect the vehicles forget the neighbors house lol jk great video I’m gonna attempt to do my car myself
Glad to see your back in the saddle, great content as usual, keep up the good work. Will be watching. Bob
Thanks Bob! Much appreciated!
Awesome👍👍👌best wish from Malaysia.
Thank you very much
Amazing job,,,,very informative. thank you
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for all that good information
You are very welcome !!
Top job and great video.
Excellent video.
Thank you Sir !
Nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent results, thank you for the video :)
My pleasure!
all good now!
👍👍👍
Great video man, really enjoyed it, truck turned out looking great!
Thanks man !!!
Firstly, welcome back, and I hope that it will not be interrupted again..... Secondly, this video is only music???
Sorry had a technical issue... Got it fixed !!
You son has a nice truck now, great job!
He sure did have a nice truck, from the time that it got done until now he put about 30K miles on without a hitch... And the truck was sold about a week ago to make funds and room for his next project...
@@fix206 perfect, bet you didn't lose a dime on it either, after a years of use, nice!
Believe it or not but he actually made close to 4K in profit after selling it. But I guess the only reason he was able to clear that much is because he did not have to pay to get the truck fixed, dad is just trying to help a young lad out 😇
@@fix206 good, that's also what dad's are about, helping the young, giving them help, yes, that's what is best and needed. 4k, very nice indeed!
For sure, I figured if I gave him a little boost early on hopefully that will get him going in the right direction a bit sooner than later... It's his birthday today, he's turning 19. When I was his age, I had nothing. To be honest I was actually homeless for a couple of months when I was 19, not due to me doing anything stupid or anything like that. But that's a story for another day :-)
Great tutorial. Thank you!
You are very welcome Mark ! Thanks for watching !
upol primer can be used as sealer as well. helps not having to buy more material. TDS says mix ratio for sealer is 4:1:2. i like to add a little extra reducer to smoothen things out
That is true, but another thing that I like about the brand of sealer that I use is the fact that it comes in three different colors and I can mix those colors amongst themselves to get it closer to the shade of the color that I will be painting thus requiring less coats of paint and better coverage
Amazing job man it look so good
Thanks man !!
Job well done.
Thank you Sir !!
Good job you do awesome wrk!
Keep up with the great videos.
Thanks man! Got next vid in the works!
Could I make one tiny, small piece of constructive criticism? You should get 2004-2005 Civic Si side skirt panels. With your front and rear bumper skirts, the doors seem to be missing a little extension. That's all, lol. Other than that, I think this car looks great. I had two civic Si's and I wish mine looked as near as good as this one!
Nice job man!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job 👏 👍
Thank you 👍
Depends on how much sandpaper you have and how much paint you want to waste. Sure you can paint in your driveway, you can also cut the lawn with a pair of scissors.
Now sure I follow... What sand paper are you speaking of? How am I waisting paint?
Great jobs
Thanks Richard!
That was nice job, great film editing and exelent camera movement. Content is top notch too.
Sorry had a technical issue... Got it fixed !!
I was joking, but still, it is still true
Lol, I knew you were just kidding... :)
Sweet!
Thanks !
Paint is awrsome.
Great job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
man your channel is great!
I appreciate that! Thanks again for a visit !!!
Nice job sir!!!!!
Thank you very much! Cheers!
Great job
Thanks man!
Heyyyy Is back!!
Yes I am !! Thanks for checking in 👍
I sprayed a mobile home that was in a trailer park. Granted, it was latex paint, but the overspray was crazy, had people 2 trailers down complaining about it.
There's definitely a lot more area to cover with a mobile home therefore I'm pretty sure that the sprayer that you used had much larger orifice that would result in larger droplet size for overspray therefore that stuff took longer to dry as it got carried away from your work area and a lot of that undried material settled down on neighbors trailers/cars and I'm sure those people were not happy :-)
@@fix206 yeah, it was a Wagner power sprayer type. So it definitely wasn't atomized like the air powered guns.
Great video very informative thank you 👍
Great video as usual !! Keep them coming !
Thanks! Will do!
I mask all wheel wells, light cavities, receiver hitchs. I do so because seeing over spray says it is bottom budget work. Masking those areas also helps contain the dirt and all of those area are ideal dirt pockets that never get fully cleaned.
23:40 Kids paint your fuel door. Lots of people, sometimes even professionals forget to paint the fuel door. LOL
I did tape the front wheel well off completely, you can tell in some shots...wheel liner was pulled out of the rear wheel well, and I washed all of the dirt out of there while wet sanding. Tail light opening also got washed out, and all of the wiring got covered with a plastic bag. I did paint the fuel door, cause If I didn't it would stand out, I just rewatched that part of the video and it does kind of stand out by looking lighter, I think sometimes camera will pickup certain things better then human eye, because I can't see the difference in person ... Video was getting waaay too long so I started to trim a lot of the fat, that's why a lot of these details didn't make it into the vid...
@@fix206 It's a quality job. I've seen far far worse come out of shops when the paint guy just didn't care.
Thanks man !!
Looking good 👍🏾🏁🏁🏁
Appreciate it!
Saludé from Puerto Rico
¡Hola, amigo mío!
complet point job
I like wet sanding from a bucket with some dish soap. cuts smoother and easier and paper lasts longer. Doing the sealer, you look mighty close. I thought the distance was supposed to be further away? I've only shot single stage but looks like you can throw that on like primer? Single stage I was taught to never stop mid-panel and keep the pattern perpendicular to the surface. Looks great though. That foam tape idea was new to me - that's cool. I used to just tape down with only half the tape width then bend the other half back which gave a similar "fade".
You can vary the distance from the gun to the panel depending on your air pressure. Just try different things at different pressures and see what works best for you...
Perfect
Thank you Nestor !!
Can you do videos on the weather stripping installation and seals? Thank you.
what weather stripping and seals are you referring to?
Fix I look forward to your next compressor video. Looks like you are making a way to get rid of water in the lines?
Phillip Hall
Yep I built an air chiller to go with the compressor, it's my own little design :) Works as good as I've expected it 😁 I'll do my best to push that vid out by next Sunday
