      While i agree with you on much of the woke mindset guilt presumption, i would say that in respect of sex crimes, you have always been tarred with the crime even if cleared in court. There have been many such cases over the years, made much worse since the public naming of the accused and not yet tried or convicted during the investigation phase to "aid investigation". Once named publicly as accused, the court of public opinion has forever been the "no smoke without fire" bullshit judgement of the curtain twitching moralistic Hyacinth Bucket type. Certainly this is the case in the UK, if not everywhere Western.

    Cancelling someone is a form of bullying and harassment. I think those who cancel without proof should be dealt with through the legal system because it’s shocking what happened to Kevin Spacey. He’s lost his career, his home and years spent paying for legal bills to prove his innocence.
    Those who made false accusations should be held accountable and made to pay compensation.

    Much nearer home- Salmond, formerly of the SNP faced a barrage of complaints of sexual impropriety- none resulted in convictions, but the then leader of the SNP used a covid broadcast to say that 'just because someone is found not guilty doesn't mean they didn't do it'. Shameful. Additionally of course the details of the accused are released whereas the accuser is protected by anonymity .The powers that be have also decided that not enough rape allegations result in convictions- I mean they MUST mostly be guilty, mustn't they ?- so lets do away with juries and have specialist judges to get the figures up. Centuries of legal precedent and procedure are at risk of being torn up.

      @@thedirectorschair1054 Saville never went to court, or was publicly accused during his lifetime. You also have to say watching the first few minutes of the C4 "documentary" about the new allegations, it certainly is not balanced or fair journalism. Comes across immediately as a hit piece for ratings. I'm not making excuses for either man here, but with respect to Spacey, the only people i have heard making accusations are what you may consider adult men maybe with the exception of one teenage male of 14 i think. It strikes me as far less likely that zero of these people decided to say anything until it became lucrative to do so, and the original accusations would be true. Following the multiple cases where Michael Jackson was extorted for being an idiot with kids at best and the huge settlements he had to pay out for no convictions.... you can see why this sort of thing has taken off in the subsequent time. There's money to be made even without guilt.

    • @thedirectorschair1054
      @thedirectorschair1054 28 дней назад

      @@theoutsider6191 You make some important points. Let me try and address them. Yes, Saville was never publicly accused or went to court - but everyone who spent any time even in the same city as Saville, knew what he was doing. The BBC, the NHS, almost the entirety of Leeds, including the police force, knew he was a horrific paedo. It was an open secret. With Kevin Spacey, it is also an open secret to everyone in the industry. There's a reason he was thrown under the bus as soon as the dam started to break because there are a lot of people in the industry who enabled his actions or looked the other way. For instance, the entire management of the Old Vic at the time Spacey was there should be facing some hard questions. Everyone in Theatreland knew, so their claims they did not just don't hold water. They looked the other way.
      Now why did the people in power over Spacey not dob him in before? My very first professional theatre job, I was felt up by a famous gay actor. I told the Producer I had been sexually harassed and his reply was: 'Get used to it. He makes me money. You don't.' The performing arts are full of abusers. Spacey made lots of other people very very rich. Meanwhile the people he was abusing had no power at all, it was not only going up against Spacey, but the even more powerful people around him who could blacklist a young actor out of the industry.
      Anthony Rapp has accused Spacey of paedophilia, being just 14 when Spacey sexually abused him. Rapp got nothing out of that accusation. He was just trying to put the trauma behind him. He is a fully credible victim of Spacey's crimes.
      Is there a cautious tale with Michael Jackson? Yes absolutely. The difference with Jackson is that no 'victim' ever filed a criminal charge against Jackson. That was all for money, whereas the immediate charges against Spacey were criminal. Maybe his victims are chasing him in civil court now that the criminal charges have failed, but the first and immediate desire was to see him locked up. Each case must be determined on its own merits. Just because some people bandwagon on one case for money, does not mean that another similar case does not have dozens of actual victims. The Jackson case had no merits. The Spacey case does. Might there be some people claiming to have been attacked by Spacey when they haven't? It's possible, but all of the accusations I have heard so far are fully credible considering the stories I heard going round the industry at the time Spacey was in the UK.
      Finally, there may be a salacious tv show, but that is a separate issue. TV is always chasing money and ratings and it will always attract gold diggers. It has no bearing on whether Spacey is innocent or guilty.

    What happened to the presumption of innocence legal principle? Kevin was accused, tried, convicted and sentenced in the court of public opinion, it's appalling. What is not (or hardly reported) is that despicable loser Anthony Rapp who started it all was found guilty of false allegations against Kevin after admitting that he lied about the whole thing and, in fact, he never even met Kevin. If accused of rape or what Kevin Spacey has been it really doesn't matter if you are cleared, if your name gets put out there in any media at all associated with this sort of label you will be forever convicted. People always have that "no smoke without fire" attitude to this accusation for some reason and it's literally one person's word against another's in many such cases - so clarity and certainty is not likely hence the low conviction rates. It is also the case that the accused's anonymity is thrown on the bonfire of their life when anyone makes this kind of accusation as the police et al are allowed to put the accused's name out there in media even before it goes to court. Even people that are exonerated and the accuser found guilty of perjury and faulse testimony are still labelled with the accusation. Any employer these days is also google searching you beforehand and obviously anything like this will be found. Guaranteed you will not get the job, even if found innocent. And the accused will also forever have a record on their Police National Crime Database record even if found innocent, so any job requiring high level Police vetting is out permanently. There have been several well documented cases where this has happened and the guy accused has ended his own life because even their own families do not believe them after the fact or during the accusation phase. It is a notable risk in the teaching profession, particularly for male teachers. It is disgusting in what purports to be a civilised society.

    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
    If you can dream-and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

    During the 2010s when Spacey was running the Old Vic, the rumours of him using the theatre as his personal brothel, luring in young male performers with the promise of being associated with fame, were everywhere in theatreland. Everyone in the business, as I was back then, knew about it because it was literally impossible to not hear the stories on the grapevine even three or four times removed. Spacey had power. He abused it with abandon. The casting couch was in full operation. It was impossible to say anything against him at the time because, like Saville, he was untouchable. Hollywood in London. The glitterati worshipped him.
    It's taken time for these lawsuits to start happening as people have grown up and realised how much he abused them. He may well be found innocent in the courts, he can afford very good lawyers. But don't let that fool you for a second. He is a full on predator and I hope people keep bringing the lawsuits until they nail the b*stard. And if not, mud sticks and it should stick in this case. So sure - innocent until proven guilty. But he is guilty, no matter how good his lawyers are at pretending the opposite.

      @@rodneyfungus8249 I'm stating that as far as I am concerned. I have heard enough at the time the abuse was happening, to know that accusations would occur at a later date - and lo and behold they did. I know that when Spacey was accused of paedophilia, he got a get out of jail free card by coming out as gay which somehow deflected away from that. I know that it's practically impossible to prove historical sexual assault under any circumstances so there's little to no worth in a not guilty verdict. Even serial rapist Harvey Weinstein has had some of his convictions tossed.
      Justice is an imperfect system. Innocent until proven guilty is a judicial ambition. But the world just doesn't work like that. I'm not advocating for a world where innocent until proven guilty is removed, but I'm pragmatic enough to know that sometimes the system throws innocent people in prison and sometimes it lets guilty people go free and sometimes the people know when a guilty person has gone free. No one doubts that OJ Simpson was guilty, despite being found innocent.

    In ancient times Scape Goats (people) were cast into the desert to carry all the sins of the tribe/city/ village. The reason being that everyone else was cleansed.

      What's that supposed to mean? If you have allegations to make, spit it out. Don't just make sly comments.

      Have you even looked into it? Have an actual look where the person was mentally unstable and took their own life alone. You seem guilty of just reading the front page of gossip magazines or some tabloid rag targeted at intellects like yours and coming to that conclusion? Do better or stay off the keyboard and dont vote.

    They sound like male feminists or apologists. Not a word about accusers being held accountable if their allegations turned out to be fabricated out of spite or greed

      The allegations weren't fabricated. Spacey's lawyer admits that he committed the actions, but the lawyer claimed 'it's not illegal to like sex'. Amazingly this got Spacey off the first time.
