The olimpic gold was denied to kolbe 2 times for karppinen and 1 for the great thomas lange but he's considered one of the greatest sculler of all times

Don’t think many people understand how much mental and physical torture they’d both be going through with 500m to go.

Obviously, material doesn't matter. Well done Karppinen.

Perhaps the best competition in the single of all time . Karppinen undoubtedly the best.

Not really. Kolbe had been world champion for five times. He only had always bad luck in the Olympic games.

When I saw that had no idea a few months later I would begin rowing in college, barely having been on any water in my life. It was a subliminal message something about that motion, you could just see he was a cool headed shark waiting. Later, if I saw a guy that tall around boathouse I thought there was no point. Once the coach put me in a pair with a guy 6'7 once who was two years older, I had never rowed a pair. What a day I could not adapt.

In rowing a lot of the time depends on the water conditions. LA was held in a lake, I’m not sure how much those things effect times.

Rowing is extremely condition dependent, if the top scullers rowed in conditions like this they would easily go around 6:40s

Whoa I didn't see that spoiler you are spot on. The current Olympics titles each reveal the winner of every event. Generational decency bypass. I am sorry you got the zinger. I guess other commenter has no feeling for the reason for rowing.
