Without Elite Coaching, I would NEVER have achieved such a world best time in the single scull.

Happy New Year all. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the coaching I got during those years. This race took place after a year of break in 1997. I did not want to race anymore after 1996. In August of 1997, I went back to training. I drew me back. 98-99-00 were amazing. 2001 was OK but things got harder to organize logistically. Breaking away from being at the top was painful to keep the detail to a minimum.

This is the World Cup final in Lucerne Switzerland. Year 1998.... Really had to go all the way to the finish line. The fellow who came in second was Rob Waddell, 5:36 on the erg. A great person and friend. He ended up winning gold in Sydney and me silver.

There was another in 2000 in Vienna, I got through the line before Rob. A month later in Sydney it was Rob who won.

It's kind of weird to think that the baby is probably in its 20's now :/
