I've been eagerly looking forward to these Nellie videos like a serialized detective story, what an incredible and unique resource on our recent history! Kudos to Mr Gupta and The Print for this
Gujarat riots had full judicial probe and convictions of many. The many "sins" of Congress didn't even have a simple FIR. Documentaries are not just for people of one particular faith.
FIR or no FIR fact on grounds suggest that neither was anyone held accountable for the deaths of 2000 civilians in Gujrat nor 3000 civilians in Nellie, Assam. While the entire state machinery looked at the Kashmir exodus with far greater responsibility, these people have clearly been far less fortunate. One day they will also have someone like Agnihotri make a movie maybe then some of the dead conscience will rise. Also karma does its job in clear ways, towards the end of the video Gupta has said the present conditions of the victims is much better than that of the perpetrators of the genocide.
Why the samething happened with the hindus of Kashmir? After such a big incident the muslims of Nellie were allowed to live peacefully in the same place but that couldn't be possible with the Kashmiri hindus. The muslims can live anywhere in India but hindus cannot.Hindus living in Pakustan and Bangladesh is miserable.....unesco is against the hindus @@SuzukiWagonr-gf8wo
An IAS officer Harshmohan Caiare had called the army to prevent bloodshed. Arun Shourie wrote that officer was pressured by then governor (who was running the state). He didn't budge even after this. The next day his superiors cancelled the order of calling the army.
They were not just Muslims, they were illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators stealing Assamese land. It's like trying to preach mercy for a thief who's entered ur House 🏠 Shekar ji can be so funny with his pseudo secularism..

Another such targeted killings were the killing of 12 Bengali hindus in 1997 Nislamari massacre. The ideology behind the Nellie massacre and the 2018, 1997 massacre are the same ethnonationalism and xenophobia. So as you can clearly see radical violent forces spare nobody. Therefore all Indians should come together and ask for justice for 1983. Had there been strict action in 1983, then there wouldnt have been any future big riots in India be it 1984, 2002, 2013,2020
Sir.! It was shocking that you didn’t mention about the inaction by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the then Chief Minister Saikia. These two could have easily prevented the massacre.
I have just read Arun Shourie's article from your link on The Print. It's absolutely terrifying. Mrs Gandhi is probably our worst PM. Her egotistical actions led to punjab and assam insurgency, LTTE problem etc. She and her party has done enough damage to the country's social fabric. However, the present dispensation probably learned nothing from this as they are trying to do the same in Karnataka and Bengal.
Thank SG you for telling such forgotten tragedies of our beloved country. I think we are so diverse that having a peaceful society seems impossible but we all can compromise our hate and live with harmony despite caste, religion, conflicts, race for a better future of our India and its innocent residents.
Shekar ji, please start the story as to why this incident happened.... Do not make sound like Assamese suddenly started killing people.... The Congress is responsible for the large scale illegal immigration and the change in the make up of the Assamese society.... How come some people are worried about kashmir and whether the religious socio demographic will change, But are completely blind to the north east and kerela
You make a good point, that is quite hypocritical to care in one region with people of one religion, but not care when it happens somewhere else with people of another religion. Ultimately demographics will always change everywhere though, it can never remain static forever, people always move in and out. It seems to me that the real problem in India is that the identity politics is far too strong, and people will only vote along caste or religious lines instead of caring about who is actually developing the country. If you could convince people to think about development and the economy instead, that would solve most of these demographic concerns.

Giving 4 million Bangladeshis right to vote by Indira Gandhi pretty much precipitated this crisis. Vote bank politics of the congress always causes problems. Now this vote Bank politics has been branded as mohabbat ki dukan. It should be thrown into the sea as soon as possible or it will cause more social tension if voted to power.
Shekhar Gupta, Prannoy Roy, Rajdeep etc are all wonderful journalists, they open up truth whenever any disasters happen, but they never go to the root cause for the incidents. They don't want to study the cruel, horrific teachings a religion preaches against another. Hindus are sensitive and secular by their origin, they don't follow one book, one god, one language, they follow universal justice. But in Assam the root cause for masscres were because of certain excesses by a particular religion and also cross border migration of people of that religion which calls for murder of those who don't belong to their religion. These things are not understood by the great, secular journalists of India!

The killing of 5 bengali hindus point blank range in 2018 in Kherbari, Tinsukia dist., the killing of 12 Bengali Hindus in 1997 Nislamari and many more such acts of targeted killings suggest that it is a case of radical ethnonationalism more than religious strife. It breaks my heart to think how hard it must be to carry around the guilt of a massacre that killed thousands of women and children for no reason. There are still such people around in this world for which we still survive. The ethnic Assamese people must go through introspection on what made them do this and there is still the same strain of hate in their culture..now it has shifted towards Muslim Bengalis.
SG while you speak so eloquently on the events of 1983, I do not hear you utter a word on the events unfolding against Muslims in the very same Assam. No word on the burning alive of two young men in Haryana or the so many other cases of atrocities against the minorities in this country. While we can reminisce the events of 40 years before, the dangers facing us today need to be spoken about by respected voices like yourselves. Or is it too much to ask for in these strange times

According to my Grandfather, they set fire to Cows alive, smell of Cows burning alive filled the air. Nellie Massacre is the proof of the unity of Assamese people,
I request you to do a 3rd documentary and present the other side of the argument as well since untill now you gave a very one sided description of the event only. You are mainly presenting the story with empathy for the illegal immigrants. What about rights of the original indigenous citizens? No one talks about why it happened. The illegal immigration and resulting rapid demographic change (threatening to replace the local language & culture) was and still is the main problem which no one seems to be addressing seriously.

This incident could have well been avoided if only the government had sent back the Bangladeshi citizens. We forget that the root cause to the voilence is the land grabbing and stealing the livelihood of those Assamese tribes. If at all the blood is in those congress govts gand who for the sake of securing the so called "secular votes" have destroyed region after region. When East Pakistan and then Bangladesh was created it was supposed to be land for Bengali speaking Muslims. Caa is a discriminatory law, and religious citizenship will always remain wet dream of ethnonationalistic fascists. India belongs to all..... The Constitution itself starts with, "We the people". You have no right to question your fellow citizens just because they speak a language different than you, this is a reflection of incompetence. If one really wants to go back then those who migrated from Burma 600 years back and today form the majority of most of North east should also be asked those same questions. Some people of North east speaking bengali is very similar to how the language and culture is similar in Lahore Pakistan and amritstar India. Before partition today's north east was a single Bengal province, a boundary line won't change the language of people ie bengali.
@Suzuki Wagonr What kind of Sick argument is this? Are we running a charity nation here? My contention regarding the refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh is that both Islamic countries choose to stay separate creating Islamic countries yet why should India bear the brunt of Muslim refugees? As Hindus and Sikhs ve no where to go it is understandable to give them asylum in India. Sri Lanka tamils is a separate issue. They share the same cultural roots as Tamils of TN. So it was out of that sentiment that Indian govt raises concern regarding Tamil ppl in Sri Lanka. Rohingayas are a different issue altogether. They share socio cultural and religious roots with Bangladesh than India. It is for Bangladeshi govt to take the call on how to help them not ours.
@@pradeei.g7478 There can't be a game of religion based citizenship in a religion neutral constitutional democracy ie India. The Indian state doesn't discriminate between its citizens on basis of religion. Therefore it can't discriminate between the existing refugees and classify them as citizens and illegals just on basis of their religion or country of persecution. In no way is the suffering of the rohingya refugees any lesser than those faced by any of the groups included in the ambit of the CAA. The excuse of partition based on religion given by you falls flat the moment I see that Afghanistan is also included in the CAA whereas it wasn't a part of pre partition India. No discrimination no discrimination no discrimination.

Thanks for this, it's eye opening. You said at the end that the children of the Mymensinghiya victims are definitely doing better than the children of the Lalungs (now more preferred term is Tiwa) accross the new highway. Did you take any survey and did you ask the Tiwa descendants whether they consider what their doing as not as good as the Mymensinghiya descendants? It sounded like as if you're blaming the entire community of the Tiwas, that you see the situation of the new generation of Tiwas of that area as something they deserved. And after that you said nobody has yet been punished.
It was there all along, how can it be kept secret. Apart from massacring just illegal immigrants they slaughtered Indian Hindu bengalis too. We Bengalis know it was never about immigrants, it was pure hatref amd racism. The reason most of other part of India dont know about this is because the Bengalis anywhere never retaliated and maintained peace. Same bengali maintained peace during anti Sikh riots which affected whole of India. So in Eastern India there's still peace and country is not breaking apart is because BENGALIS are still patient when it comes to these matter. Its only a matter of time when we stop doing that too.

One day every sinner will have his reward
FIR or no FIR fact on grounds suggest that neither was anyone held accountable for the deaths of 2000 civilians in Gujrat nor 3000 civilians in Nellie, Assam. While the entire state machinery looked at the Kashmir exodus with far greater responsibility, these people have clearly been far less fortunate. One day they will also have someone like Agnihotri make a movie maybe then some of the dead conscience will rise.
Also karma does its job in clear ways, towards the end of the video Gupta has said the present conditions of the victims is much better than that of the perpetrators of the genocide.

Yes sir ! We are damned to repeat same old mistakes!

@@SuzukiWagonr-gf8wo you're crying about a 40 yr old event without thinking of what the future holds in store for you . Moslems in Assam are already 35% of the population as per the 2011 census . Likely much more . How long before they reach 50% & cross it ? What do you think the response of the non Moslems of Assam will be like especially given the troubled history of illegal immigration from Bangladesh & the equally despicable attempts by the local administration there to legalize it ?

Thanks, Mr. SG.
Even though it is late, the culprits must be punished.

Sir, the file can still be opened and the real culprit be booked. But given the current political trend, it is highly unlikely that a fair trial will be possible, when political vendetta and religious sectarianism have become orders of the day. On one thing we can still find some solace that perhaps these were the incidents that made Assamese people realise that 'regionalism' would take the community to nowhere and today in the midst of religious extremism (both kinds) they have not lost mind. Thank you Sir, for your love for this region.
In my opinion you should not have revealed the source

Brilliant journalist 👏
Sir assamese muslims were never attacked but it was bengali muslim immigrants.
It will sound bad and people should never rejoice other's deaths, but sometimes I think that the dying out of the 2nd generation gandhi's (IG and RG) was one of the biggest boons for this country. Look at the number of people who died just for some of their ill taken decisions . Assam, Punjab, Lanka (even how LTTE ended during our times), mandir/masjid divide, etc. That was a bad blood generation that got thousands killed. Nehru might have been aghast looking down from above
Thanks SG Sir..for the story 🙏🙏.
But for you..I was ignorant about this dark chapter in our country's history.
Thanks very much for watching...best wishes, Shekhar

There are no two sides to any act of mass violence or genocide, Hitler was never asked about why he did the holocaust, neither was Kasab asked about 26/11, nor were the terrorists of Kashmiri Hindu genocide of the 90s asked to present their views. The country has seen with clear eyes how till very recently insurgency was at peak in Assam, I still remember the Dhemaji school bomb blast of the early 2000s. Till 2010 bomb blasts used to happen regularly in Assam.
People have seen the horrific attack in Kashmir files where the terrorists lined up people and shot them point blank. A similar terrorist attack took place in Kherbari, Tinsukia in 2018 where terrorists lined up Bengali Hindus and shot dead 5 people point blank. The xenophobic ethnonationalism behind the 1983 Nellie massacre and the killing of the 5 Bengali Hindus in 2018 have the same ehtnonationalistic extremist ideology behind them. Anyone indulging in acts of violence will not be given a microphone to present his pov in a civilized world. This is why justice needs to happen in 1983 Nellie massacre, to prevent future such events. Cope with the truth.
Kashmir files pe theatre pe rone waale log 2 saal baad shahrukh khan nellie files banayega, tab bhi jaana theatre
whats the point they repopulated the area
I hope those who went to the theatres to watch Kashmir files will also watch the Nellie files as and when Shahrukh khan makes it. Also the Nellie massacre is much more than purely religious issue, as recently as 2018 in Kherbari village of Tinsukia district Assam terrorists lined up Bengali Hindus and shot dead 5 men point blank. The ideology behind the Nellie massacre and the 2018 massacre are the same ethnonationalism and xenophobia. So as you can clearly see radical violent forces spare nobody. Therefore all Indians should come together and ask for justice for 1983.
Had there been strict action in 1983, then there wouldnt have been any future big riots in India be it 1984, 2002, 2013,2020.
And the cycle of karma also works in its own way as SG has sajd about the education and prosperity of the victims is now more than that of the perpetrators.
We always look at the gujrat riots but we hardly discuss about the godhra kaan that lead to it. There must have been a similar Godhra behind this too want to know that. Seems similar to why buddhist monks in Myanmar took action against rohingyas.
Whenever you have such stories, always remember RADHABAI CHAWL in Mumbai. Yes MUMBAI not BOMBAY
In fact Indrajit Gupta directly blamed Vajpayee in parliament for the massacre
SG couldn’t summon the courage to name Vajpayee, his political guru, who gave venomous hateful speech at that time against the affected community - one of the alleged reason for massacre.
Thank you for enumerating this information 🙏🏻

Talking about investigative journalism- Just wonder how many investigative journalism The Print of SG has done under this regime, or for that matter a ctc asking questions to the gvt 😂.
But surely SG would appear every day to cut the clutter on Amrit kaal reminding indians indebtedness to Modi ji.

If religion doesn't create separatism then why was East Pakistan and then Bangladesh created?
The local Assamese were right in feeling threatened..
When Bengali Muslims can create a separate natio, then what ll prevent them from asking for a separate state out of Assam??
I agree violence should ve been avoided.
I think all Bengali Muslims should be sent back to Bangladesh peacefully whose ancestors came after 1947.
Then the govt acted stern and eliminated the terrorists, some operations were even carried out in Myannmar where the hideouts of these groups exist.
People have seen the horrific attack in Kashmir files where the terrorists lined up people and shot them point blank. The different religious identity but common linguistic identity of the victims of 1983 Nellie massacre and the 2018 Kherbari, Tinsukia killings prove that extremist ideologies shouldnt be tolerated at all. Anyone indulging in acts of violence will not be given a microphone to present his pov in a civilized world. This is why justice needs to happen in 1983 Nellie massacre, to prevent future such events. Had the perpetrators of Nellie been given harsh punihsment that would have acted as a deterrent to future rioters, be it the 1984 anti sikh riots, 1989 bhagalpur riots, 1993, 2002, 2013, 2020. Cope with the truth, large scale movies like Kashmir files should be made on this issue to bring up this issue in the mainstream. Cope with truth.
@Suzuki Wagonr
I agree that perpetrators of violence need to be punished irrespective of religion.
I also think so much of the Northeast problem has risen due to refugees and then illegal migration of Bangladeshis, both Muslims and Hindus.
When East Pakistan and then Bangladesh was created it was supposed to be land for Bengali speaking Muslims. If they cross the border and alter the demography of the Northeast then it has to be stopped.
Now that there are no tensions in Bangladesh all those Bangladeshis can go back. I think even Bangladeshi Hindus ve to go back if they are provided safe environment in Bangladesh. But sadly we are the only secular country in Subcontinent. Bangladesh would never accept Hindus back.
That is the whole purpose of CAA and NRC.
@@pradeei.g7478 the Caa and The CAA is discriminatory in nature, by giving preference to specific religions and specific neighborhood countries it is saying the the suffering of some persecuted minorities is greater than those faced by those persecuted people who have been included under the caa. For instance the caa ignores the persecution faced by the rohingyas of Myanmar of whom 25,000 killed, 7 lakhs have become refugees. It also ignores the sri lankan tamil refugees.
Myanmar shares a land border with india, still just because the persecuted people of Myanmar don't form a vote bank for the political party, their persecution has been over looked. The suffering of a rohingya is no lesser than that faced by minorities of Bangladesh or Pakistan.
@Suzuki Wagonr
What kind of Sick argument is this?
