Michelle-Autozone sells a part called a Serpentine Belt Anti-Slip Shield(part#82570) for the 3.0/3.3 Caravan/Grand Caravan that will keep the belt from slipping off ( $9.99)It bolts to the tensioner or idler pulley.
Love your videos. I especially like it when you tell the viewer the size of bolts they can expect to encounter, this helps plan the work to ensure the correct size tools are readily available. Just one observation. It would be helpful if you could briefly explain why you would replace these parts, just as you explained about the belt. Thanks.
**IMPORTANT NOTE** Do not try to replace the splash shield backwards or you will feel like an idiot. [cough cough.... glancing from side to side] Guys, THANK YOU for posting this. It was 100% helpful!!
How did this work out for you? Im planning to do mine tomorrow. Local mechanic quoted me $100 to replace everything since I have the parts... I was thinking about just having him do it however I recently bought a bunch of new tool I'd like to use. I'll feel accomplished if I can do this successfully as I really dont work on cars. Local mechanic quoted me $100 (very cheap) because I took my other vehicle there last week for him to work on and he dropped my rim and scratched it.. so I guess that was his way of compensating me? ... anyways thanks a lot!
great video guys its spot on, i was a mechanic for about 25 years, now i just do it for my self, and i have to tell you i thought it was hard being that the front wheel drive cars have the motor turned side ways,= mean the crank pulley and water pump is facing the left wheel, so it looks cramped but dang you guys saved me a ton of money, i just got hosed by a mechanic, for a motor job, the &^%$#$ put my motor i had rebuilt back in the car with worn parts, harmonic balancer, idler pulley and the belt tensioner, and claims he couldnt tell the parts where worn untill he test driven the car, he was pissed because he couldnt sell me a junk yard motor because i had mines rebuilt, i bought all the things for it, water pump, liquids belts, spark plugs, every thing needed to get a short block back up running, so since i did all of the that i guess he figured he get back @ me by putting the motor back in the car with defective parts with out calling me because he know i would of had the new parts quick, i warned him i was a mechanic in the parts i guess he forgot i still get mechanics discounts on parts, so i guess he thinks am bringing my grand caravan back, he might as well wait like the people in hell waiting on a glass of ice water.. thanks joe and the other guy great job, explaining was shot on.
Gotta thank you guys for the video. You took a job that looked to be a bitch-n-a half and made it as easy as peeling an orange. Thank You! 10 BIG thumbs up.
I wish you guys had shown more of the belt being put on the tensioner pulley itself. because on my van we cannot figure out how to get the belt up over it. it would be nice to see where you put it over that pulley
Bought a serpentine belt that was pretty tight, ran the new one around all the pulleys except the idler on top. Moved the Tensioner all the way then had another person slip the belt under the idler. I'm sure it will loosen some over time.
I couldn't use a 1/2 drive ratchet to remove the tension from the new tensioner due to the lack of space between the tensioner and the frame of my van. I have a 2001 Grand Caravan with the 3.8L V6. I ended up reusing my old tensioner.
Great video. I had a mechanic replace my belt with the serpentine belt kit they sell for Chryslers. He had a junked T&C on his lot and said the belt in my kit was too small so he put on the used belt. Now another mechanic is telling me this belt is too loose. Can I tighten it up with the belt tensioner or do I need to put on the smaller belt that came with the kit? I don't know if this is a factor, but the belt that came with the kit is ribbed on one side and the one that is now in my car is ribbed on both sides. I have a 1997 T&C 3.8 if that matters.
the tensioner works on a spring mechanism and automatically adjusts the tension of the belt that is on. When changing the belt you want to match the ribs on the belt to the ribs on the pullys.
My serpentine belts keeps slipping off line in the rain causing it to shred, do you know why this keeps happening? I have changed the tensioner & the idle pulley already
My 2005 Dodge Caravan (3.3l engine, power steering and AC) has a seized AC compressor. I want to remove the defective compressor and route the serpentine belt without it. Is it possible to order a serpentine belt with the correct length ? Thank you.
A similar issue happened to me two ways are best, for this situation i would recommend the dummy kit basically it will replace the ac compressor with a cast iron device that is much much cheaper but has the pulley and the bolt pattern exactly like the compressor or you can get the belt made for the same engine without ac like i said harder to find the dummy kit is around 75 bucks where as an ac compressor used is 400 for this van or new is like 750ish its a lot easier with the dummy kit
Joe williiams am only looking to see exactly where I hook my Tension tool? You all don't show that part. I'm having trouble with only that part. Everything you all demonstrate I got it, but you all never show exactly where I put the tool t release tension. I am not trying to send my van to the shop for this guys!
God thank you so much for this video! My dad did the belt the first time and when it was my turn to grow up I was lost but your video helped so much!

Very helpful - thanks!!! Can you post or video how to replace power steering pump for same model?
thank very clearly done, and will this work on my 2001 3.3 chrysler grand voyager
Is that a good lifting point for the floor jack? then place the jack stand on the (flat tire lifting point)?
torque specification for the tensioner and idler pulley please
will this be the same for a 1996 dodge caravan se 3.3v6, mine is sqealing when i give it gas & while driving down the hwy.

You could have just put a bolt in there and then pull on it.... did you change your pulley at least?

you need the cover if you dont have that water cover they take off at the beginning of the video that is gonna keep happening.. Been there done that.

I didnt catch if this a 3.0 or 3.3 engine. i think the vans came with both?
it is the same as mine it is a 3.8

What I did not get this video is to put the belt in front of the engine.
Does getting charged $400 from a mechanic sound about correct for this repair?
Really $400 to repair that. Mechanics do charge a lot for labor.
but you gotta consider the cost of the parts
25 bucks for the belt
ok, that's a lot for labor then. do you only have to change the belt or the other parts too, like in the video?
Just the belt.
Joe Williams? Can you get more white lol
