I caught one episode of Buffy when I was 9 years old as it aired. Gingerbread, still remember watching it, but my mom said I couldn't watch anymore cause I was too young.
Next episode I watched airing was season 7 episode 3 and I watched every week til the end of the series.
Skipping straight to the end didn't effect my enjoyment of the series. Just made going back to watch the first seasons more fun.

19:10 - The Vampires being a more classical representation was one of Joss Whedon's main idea for the show, he really didn't like the romanticization of vampires in media (even way back then..) He wanted Buffy to be able to kick ass without having to resort to moral ambiguity for her to do so, so in Buffy the Monsters and Demons became a metaphor for growing up, usually representing aspects and challenges on the road to adulthood, and the vampires in it obstacles to slay and overcome.
Ironically enough, it was Buffy's popularity which paved the way for stuff like _The Vampire Diaries_ and _Twilight_ 😂

It's impossible not to vibe with the intro. And if you choose to watch Angel too (which you definitely should, it's incredible) then you'll find another, different, yet awesome intro.
I know you mentioned some people were disappointed you've already seen the finale but tbh... Buffy is about the characterizations and storyline starting one place and ending up somewhere entirely different. The way I see it, you haven't actually seen anything yet.

Seconded about Angel. It takes the things great about Buffy (superheroes fighting evil while also just trying to navigate everyday life, a fun mix of warmth, humor, tragedy and action, game changing plot twists, a deep emphasis on both the characters and series constantly growing and changing) and cranks it all up to 11.
Angel's writers had a mandate where every 7-9 episodes there was a massive game changing plot twist that permanently changed the characters' relationships and the status quo of the series (with the next several episodes exploring the new status quo and character dynamics). And boy howdy did that work like gangbusters to constantly keep the show fresh and compelling. They always zigged when you thought they were gonna zag, and the series was better for it.

I'm looking forward to this. I subscribed just now. Don't get dispirited by season 1. It's good but inconsistent, and the constraints of budget and time show up in some episodes of season 1 and even a handful in season 2. But starting around episodes 6 and 7 in season 2, the show fully finds its voice that the best episodes of season 1 (1, 2, 7 and 12) approach. One big thing is that in season 2 they hired a composer, who did about half the episodes (and all the "arc" episodes) and who set a consistent musical tone going forward--less electronic.X-filesy and more lush orchestral.

Again considering this show is now 26 years old it still has amazing appeal. Great to see your positive reactions from only a few episodes. You will become engrossed by it, and have such empathy with these brilliant characters. Here we can see Buffy's true power where she defeats Luke and The Master in their plan, and saves the day. It was a great follow up to the opener, and just gets better and better as it goes on with bigger budget, special effects and writing. From mid S2 onwards this becomes a stellar show, with great drama, comedy, and heart breaking scenes from a collection of truly brilliant characters. Once you enter The Buffyverse there is no way back, you will love it so much you will not be able to wait for each episode, and then the super spinoff show Angel as well with many crossover storylines and characters. I think this will become your favourite show over time, the amount of people who were reluctant to start it and then become infatuated with it is amazing. Enjoy your journey.

To be honest, one mark of a great series is its rewatchability and Buffy is a great series. People will point out that season one is dated just because of budget/tech constraints and trying to find its footing but season 2 of Buffy has some of the best TV episodes ever and season 4 has an episode that actually won an Emmy even though its a lot of people's least favorite season. So this show really earns its cult following and you'll enjoy it.

I loved your first reaction to Buffy a couple weeks back and this one was great too. I hope you enjoy your full watch of the series as much as us die hard fans do. I also hope that you are watching the original 4:3 aspect ratio, and only using the HD remaster for the Picture in Picture because the file size is smaller than screen recording (I know a lot of other reactors use it too). The HD remaster is terrible (even though I know it allows people to experience the show for free), and Passion of the Nerd did a phenomenal video essay on here explaining why. It's actually a hilarious video that I recommend watching. Again, love your reactions, please keep it up! PS, you should do a first middle and last for Veronica Mars if you haven't seen it. Rob Thomas credits Buffy as inspiration and makes a lot of Buffy references in the series.

Honestly, I have absolutely zero issues with the way you’ve gone about this. I know people make a big deal about spoilers, but personally, sometimes spoilers are the only reason I wind up watching something-I learn something, something more integral to the plot or resolution than the surface details typical summaries have, and it manages to entice me in a way the summaries didn’t. I want to see the journey and the execution from there.
And on that front-I doubt I would have found you or decided to watch your videos without that first, middle, last video, either! Going on a full episode-by-episode journey with a reactor can take quite a lot of time, and it’s been a while since I’ve been interested in taking the chance on someone new. But that video was a different format and seemed intriguing, and I was incredibly curious what impression that kind of overview would give you of the show.
I was impressed by your analysis of the themes you could see developing through just those three episodes, so I am very much looking forward to seeing more of your thoughts moving forward!
I’m glad you’re planning with your time limitations in mind; I hate to see people burn out on things, and I hope you find something that works for you. I’m perfectly content with a slower pace, or with knowing things might mostly remain on patreon.

Most of the older vampire tropes started with Bram Stoker's Dracula. The garlic, crosses, stake through the heart, etc. But the not being able to be in sunlight actually came AFTER that. If you read the book, a vampire CAN go out in daylight, he's just weakened when he does. Somewhere along the way during early movie interpretations, they decided to make it that they couldn't go out.

Making this comment for Buffy fans watching!
Instead of spoiling or thinking you’re being “clever” or cryptic about something that is important later on in the story or character development just discuss the current posted episode (bts stuff, narrative flow, actor performance, etc.) and at the end of your comment add as many “👀” or “👁️” or “☝🏽” of things that become important or say “you think that now” or come back again.
This will give him a bit of a challenge to self predict what could happen what, why, and how something could comeback or change and how incredibly right or hilariously wrong he might be.
Plus purer and more genuine reactions are just better. You can never rewatch your favorite show or movie for the first time again but you can relive it alongside that person. So don’t ruin it for them or yourself.

Glad you're doing the series, and hopefully Angel too when you get there. In the meantime, no spoilers, but some comments on this video:
@10:16 "Why can't anyone else just get a stake and go (krunk)". In theory you could. In practice, have you ever given any thought to just how much force it would take to push a wooden stake through the ribcage and into the heart? This should also give some context to just how powerful Buffy is.
@17:30 "I like that we've got more of a classic vamp... can't do sunlight." The funny thing is that it's the other way around. Classic vampires could walk around in sunlight, even Dracula. The first sunlight-fearing vamp was the film Nosferatu (1922), then the idea was popularised by Universal's films in the 1930s.
@19:10... On your comments about it being refreshing that vampires aren't just positive tropes. Laurell K Hamiltion, author of the Anita Blake novels, commented on this in an interview back around 2000. As she put it, the only downside of being a vampire is that you lose your soul. For people who have true belief in any religion that's a big downside, but in the modern secular world, most people only see the advantages.

Well I've just subscribed purely because you said you're doing the whole series. I watched Buffy as it first aired and have loved it ever since and I'm so happy you're doing this! Everyone should watch Buffy, it's such an amazing show. Please make sure you're watching it in the original 4:3 aspect ratio though, the remastered version was done really badly and completely messed up a lot of the colouring (reversing night scenes so they look like they're in the day etc.) and cropping and you can really tell in later seasons!

I love your vampire discussion. Dracula is my favorite novel of all time. Vampires can certainly be sexy, it's there thematically, but yes they are monsters. Underneath the seduction is absolute horror and the monstrosity of what a vampire truly is.

Awesome. Subbed. Don't kill yourself. While there are people who get through the whole thing in a year or less, there are others who take years. And then Passion of the Nerd (who ok, is creating video essays, not reacting, but about Buffy), who's been making his Buffy guide for 8 years now. Buffy fans can be patient. They show up when they show up. Selected episodes is also fine - do what works for you.
Also, watch out for spoilers in the comments. Buffy fans can also get over-exited.
And don't get dispirited by the first season - it was a mid season replacement on a low budget, so it can get very cheesy in places.
Not that much is actually spoiled by the finale - season seven, obvs, and some relationship stuff. But the really cool part is that strictly speaking, there are two Buffy finales - it was nearly cancelled at the end of season five, so they wrote a finale.

It's a testament to this show that I've watched it 5 times on my own, including when it first aired, and I'm currently watching *two* reactors do the series in whole episodes on Patreon yet would/will subscribe to your Patreon to watch the full episodes on there, too. Since I am very familiar with the show, it's the reactions of first-time viewers that I tune in to watch. The first season is truly the freshman of the series, and Buffy only gets better from there. Second season really picks up, and then third season, the show strongly hits its stride. Watching the series grow along with the characters is fascinating, and I love seeing it through fresh eyes and new perspectives of the reactors.
Buffy is the reason I hit your Subscribe button. If you do full-episode reactions on Patreon, it will be the reason I subscribe there. You didn't spoil the series by watching it as you did; it was a strange but interesting way of introducing yourself to a show you weren't sure about. The finale, without the context of watching the entire series and *knowing* the characters, didn't spoil as much as you might think, because it was the wrap-up/resolution and didn't focus as much on where the characters are in their lives.

I will say again, though, if you are able, don't watch the awful HD "remaster". If you want the full, true Buffy experience, seek out the original 4:3 format. I don't know if you ever talk with other reactors, but Liam Duke, AfterShowReacts, Thor Reacts, TheLexiCrowd, Domi.e......I bet any of them would be willing to send you over the files.

Excited you're doing this. It was a unique experience watching you see the beginning, middle and end for the first time and really enjoyed that. There have been a ton of great live-action superhero shows made in recent years, but Buffy and Angel are still among my favorites. They both start as slow and inconsistent monster of the week shows, but then they find themselves (female Spider-Man and vampire Batman/Hellboy, respectively), get more serialized and ambitious as fuck and never look back. Enjoy the ride.
